Next Week in TV 8/29: Mysteries, The Return of What We Do in the Shadows, and Manifest is Saved!

By DRWHO42 & Scott C.

The last days of summer are here, with September on the horizon, which also signals the return of our favorite series for the fall season in the coming weeks. For now, the week ahead in television leading up to the Labor Day holiday is a little light with new content, but there are a few gems to add to your watch list.

If you are looking for a good mystery, both HBO and Hulu have excellent offerings premiering this week. First is HBO’s French import Laetitia, premiering Monday (August 30th) evening. This series, which is based on actual events, is about a missing-person mystery set in western France that includes a who-dun-it twist. The second one is on the morning of Tuesday, August 31st, and it is Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building, which is a murder-mystery series with a comedic flair that stars Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez. The series also stands out because Steve Martin was part of the creative team that brought it to the small screen.

The cult-favorite What We do in the Shadows returns for its third season Thursday, September 2nd, and Money Heist returns for another round later this week on Netflix on the morning of Friday, September 3rd.

For everything else airing soon, please do check the weekly listing below.

In television news, this week has been quite busy with several big announcements. Let’s begin with Netflix taking the prize for the biggest buzz of the three massively exciting announcements. The first was the announcement of their inaugural fan event titled Tulum. The virtual 3-hour event scheduled for September 25th, 2021, will cover 70 series, films, and specials with a stellar lineup of talent from Bridgerton to The Crown to The Witcher (click here for more details)

Next up was the announcement of the renewal of Cobra Kai for a fifth season along with the cast for the upcoming Addams Family series Wednesday from the creative team of Tim Burton, Al Gough, and Miles Millar. And finally, and definitely, the most significant news for fans of Manifest and the #SaveManifest movement was the announcement of the fourth season pickup by Netflix. The announcement, which occurred on August 28th, was perfectly timed to celebrate the numerical tie-in with Flight #828 (You know, 8/28). The pickup order will include 20 episodes and should allow the writers the runway (pun intended) to map the final chapter of the series and answer all those questions and theories fans have thought of … hopefully.

The folks at The WB and The CW announced that the upcoming eighth season of The Flash will kick-off a five-part event titled “Armageddon”. The event will not be a cross-over, but there will be several appearances of characters from the Arrowverse, including Javicia Leslie (Batwoman), Brandon Routh (The Atom), Cress Williams (Black Lightning), Chyler Leigh (Sentinel), Kat McNamara (Mia Queen), Osric Chau (Ryan Choi), Tom Cavanagh (Reverse-Flash), and Neal McDonough (Damien Darhk).

That’s all for this week. As always, please let us know what you will be watching when visiting the FoCC forum. You can also follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
