September keeps rolling along with multiple shows and movies hitting the small screen this week.
For instance, if you are looking for a post-apocalyptic series to add to your watch list, Hulu’s Y: The Last Man, which premieres this Monday morning, is a great candidate to satisfy your watch hunger. The series, which was adapted from the graphic novel the same name published through DC Vertigo, it takes place after a mysterious global event wipes out every mammal with a Y chromosome except for one man, Yorick (Ben Schnetzer) and his monkey. Diane Lane is also attached to this series.
Similar to Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan on Amazon Prime, Peacock is looking for a win in the book-to-movie-to-series adaption game by giving Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol the series treatment. The series premieres on the platform on Thursday morning with Ashley Zukerman (Fear Street, Succession) taking over the titular role of Robert Langdon from Tom Hanks. During this first season, Robert is attempting to solve a kidnapped colleague but is recruited into a CIA task force where he uncovers a broader conspiracy. Also in the cast are Valorie Curry (The Following), Rick Gonzalez (Arrow), and Eddie Izzard.
On Thursday evening (8 p.m. ET), we say so long to fan-favorite Brooklyn Nine-Nine over on NBC in a one-hour special. Also, on Thursday morning, a second animated He-Man series, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, will be released over on Netflix.
To cap off the week, Sex Education returns for its third season on Friday morning on Netflix. The series, which centers on a young (socially) awkward teenager who sets up a covert therapy business in school, stars Asa Butterfield, Emma Mackey, and Gillian Anderson.
In television news, Deadline reported that Fox is in “active” discussions with Kiefer Sutherland for another 24 series. Fans of the series rejoiced on social media in the hopes that our favorite counterterrorist, Jack Bauer, will return to our screens.
The trailer for the next installment of The Matrix, titled Resurrection, was released last Thursday. Since the movie will be released on HBO MAX on the same day as its cinematic release, we thought it would be fitting to discuss our reaction to it here. First, this trailer was fantastic for what it teases, and based on what we saw this movie is getting back to its Matrix roots with many cues from the first film. Second, we have questions … lots of questions – such as, where is Morpheus and what’s up with the rubber duck? Third, how many more days until December 22nd?
Lastly, with the fall season upon us, we are working on a special Fall Outlook article with suggestions of TV series to add to your watch list. The article itself will be published early this week.
