Next Week in TV 9/19: Fall 2021 TV Kicks Off In Dazzling Fashion with The Emmys, 9-1-1, FBI, Foundation, Midnight Mass and more.

By DRWHO42 & Scott C.

The Fall 2021 television season officially kicks off this week with what can only be described as a supernova-like explosion filled with new and exciting series for your viewing pleasure. Each night this week looks great, so make sure you set clear your plans and set your DVRs, you do not miss any of the excitement.

Now, let’s take a look at the highlights:

Sunday kicks off with The 73rd Annual Emmy Awards with host Cedric the Entertainer. The lineup of nominees represents almost every type of genre from a period romance drama, such as Bridgeton, to an adventure in a galaxy far, far, away like The Mandalorian. The streaming platforms including Netflix, Hulu, Apple TV, and Amazon Prime are coming into the award show with a significant number of nominations. The list includes The Crown, The Queen’s Gambit, Ted Lasso, and Cobra Kai which justifies the investment and support the executives have places in the creative teams behind these enjoyable series. We are particularly happy sci-fi, adventure, and fantasy series like The Boys, The Mandalorian, Wandavision, and Lovecraft Country are receiving Emmy nods and hope this trend will continue in future years. We wish all of the nominees’ congratulations on their accomplishment and also wish them luck Sunday evening.

Also, Sunday night is the premiere of the PBS documentary on the greatest boxer of all time, Muhammad Ali.

Fans of 9-1-1 have been counting down the days and hours until the season premiere. Well, we do not have to wait much longer because it’s back Monday night. Also, on Monday, is the NCIS 19 the season return, and later that evening, the new series in the franchise, NCIS: Hawai’i, that stars Vanessa Lachey with Enver Gjokaj (Agent Carter, Agents of SHIELD).

Tuesday night is looking like a three-hour dose of excitement with the return of FBI and FBI: Most Wanted. Joining the franchise is this season FBI: International, and to celebrate, we will be treated to a triple cross-over event all in one night. Also, if you are looking for medical dramas, New Amsterdam, returning for its 4th season, and The Resident, returning for its 5th season, also should be what the doctor ordered.

Wednesday, evening the dynamic trio of Chicago procedurals, Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago PD all return. Also, sci-fi fans should add Star Wars: Visions (Disney+) to your viewing list. This anime-style series, which consists of 9 short stories, combines two elements that fans have long hoped for – anime with Star Wars. The most recent trailer was amazing, thanks to its visually pleasing art style. So, we have this series on our viewing list.

DC’s Doom Patrol returns for its third season on HBO Max Thursday. Also, the Law & Order series, Law & Order: SVU & Law & Order: Organized Crime, return.

Friday, a new series based on the Isaac Asimov book series, Foundation debuts on Apple TV+. The first two episodes will be released this week for the premiere and then moves to a weekly release schedule afterward. Also, if you are a fan of The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor, head over to Netflix for the debut of Midnight Mass. This series from the team behind The Haunting series is back with an entirely new story set in an island community and changes it endures after a series of mysterious events occur.
