FoCC Reactor: Highlights and Reactions from DC FanDome 2021

By Scott C. & Jason Delgado

DC FanDome, DC’s free virtual fan event, was back in 2021 and bigger than Starro! We here at the FoCC blog have got you covered on the Daily Planet-worthy news and highlights!

Scott’s highlights:

For me, the first two standouts that people are talking about have to be both The Batman and The Flash trailers (shared below) that gave us a taste of things to come (yes, a Mortal Kombat movie reference there). Frankly, I love knowing that each film will have multiple Batman from different universes, like Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck both being in The Flash, and eventually seeing on the big screen Robert Pattinson’s version of the Caped Crusader in The Batman. Yes, Marvel Studios is also doing the multiverse option currently, but I am (batty) curious to see what WB/DC has planned here, and what the effects will be on future films.

Zoë Kravitz, as Catwoman in The Batman, the young actress sure has that Selina Kyle comic book look down perfectly that fans are familiar with currently, and she owns it, I think. (Take a look at the second The Batman trailer, plus any recent Batman comic book that has Catwoman, and you’ll see what I mean.)

Ezra Miller is the Flash again, but I’m wondering what else the young actor will do to keep differentiating from Grant Gustin’s version of the Scarlet Speedster over on The CW. By the way, there are two Flashes in the Flash film the teaser showcased. I bet one is evil. I mean, in soap operas, there’s always that evil twin coming to ruin the day, no?

Superman’s motto changed yet again to “Truth, justice and a better tomorrow.” It was “Truth, justice and the American way.” Sure, okay, but it sure seems like this part of Superman’s history will always keep changing. In the 2006’s Superman Returns film, “American way” was also taken out for one scene.

The other highlights for me were seeing more trailers and photos regarding the Black Adam film, the Aquaman and Shazam sequels, and what else is in store for the fans. Overall, the future looks very promising over in DC land. Although someday I hope we get something regarding Henry Cavill’s Superman returning to the big screen.

Jason’s highlights:

I have to agree with Scott’s picks because all of those films sound intriguing, but I’m especially amped up to see Michael Keaton reprising his role as The Bat in The Flash. Keaton is a huge reason why superhero movies exploded in popularity with his blockbuster hit back in 1989, and he would have broken the internet if it were around back then. Mr. Mom as Batman? “You wanna get nuts? C’mon! Let’s get nuts!”

I thoroughly enjoyed the new Suicide Squad movie, and who did not love John Cena as the hilarious Peacemaker? The new HBO Max series, Peacemaker, premieres on January 13, 2022. It looks just as funny as The Suicide Squad, so check out the series’ trailer here if you have not yet! Returning writer/director James Gunn is a master of creating colorful, unique, and wisecracking characters fans cannot take their eyes off of, thus the show is in excellent hands (much better hands than The Detachable Kid’s hands comically flailing around in the movie).

Speaking of great shows, have you been watching Superman & Lois? What are you waiting for?! The cast has been at the top of their game, and it’s fun and relatable to watch the Man of Steel trying to balance the many challenges of family life while saving the world. Watch here as stars Elizabeth Tulloch (Lois Lane) and Alex Garfin (Jordan Kent) guide you on an exclusive, behind-the-scenes tour of the Kent home in Smallville!

Here are the some of the most talked about trailers and ‘first-looks’ released during FanDome.
