Next Week in TV 10/24: A New Dawn for the 4400 and Star Trek: Prodigy

By DRWHO42 & Scott C.

The week ahead in television features a reboot of a landmark sci-fi series that debuted in 2004 and a new animated series in the Star Trek franchise.

First up is the debut of 4400 this Monday evening (9 p.m. ET) on The CW. We have had this series on our radar (for a while) since we were fans of the original series (click here for our Fall TV article). This new series, which is similar to the past one, features several fresh actors. As such, this allows the showrunners to establish their path in the series without drawing past comparisons. We are hopeful that the series, which centers on 4,400 people who mysteriously disappear over time and then suddenly all return, will be character-driven like the past series. Of course, only time will tell, but we (strongly) recommend you add this series to your watch list this week.

Major League Baseball fans are also looking forward to this week. The 2021 World Series features the America League champs Houston Astros going up against the National League champs Atlanta Braves this Tuesday evening (7:30 p.m. ET) on Fox.

Thursday is a day Star Trek fans have a mark on their calendars for a while now as that is the day Star Trek: Prodigy debuts on Paramount+. The series itself is set in a far-off place in the galaxy in an unknown Stardate. The family-oriented animated series centers on a group of young aliens who stumble across a Federation Starship named Prodigy. There is no crew onboard, yet there is a hologram of Captain Janeway (voiced by Kate Mulgrew) from Star Trek: Voyager that will help the young group work together and learn the ways of Starfleet. Of course, the series has also been on our radar for a while now, and the recent panel at New York Comic Con was received well by fans (click here for our Fall TV article).

Lastly, Netflix is giving subscribers another gem from the brilliant mind of Zack Snyder with the debut of Army of Thieves this Friday. This movie is a prequel to the (popular) film Army of the Dead, which debuted earlier this summer, and features Mathias Schweighofer as the funny and brilliant safecracker, Dieter. The movie has an Ocean’s 11 feel with Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones) assembling a group of specialists for a caper. Mathias Schweighofer was a standout from Army of the Dead with his light-hearted moments, and an uncanny wit which will be the draw for this film.

That’s all for this week. As always, please let us know what you will be watching when visiting the FoCC forum. You can also follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
