LA Comic Con 2021 Preview

By Jason Delgado

On December 3rd through the 5th, 2021, the pop culture extravaganza known as LA Comic Con (LACC) is coming back with another star-studded event! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time at past LA Comic Cons, and this one looks to be no different.

Unlike other comic conventions happening this year in Southern California, LA Comic Con will feature some of our favorite geek celebrities, including: Zachary Levi (Shazam!), Casper Van Dien (Starship Troopers), and Chris Gore (Attack of the Show). LACC is strong in the Force, with fan favorites Giancarlo Esposito (Moff Gideon) and Ming-Na Wen (Fennec Shand) on hand for The Mandalorian panel taking place at the Main Stage on Saturday. Mando is the best thing to happen to Star Wars since the original trilogy in my opinion, so you know I’ll be there!

If you’re like me and love both Star Wars and Star Trek (or if you’re just a Trekkie), then you’ll be pleased to hear that the legendary Nichelle Nichols (Lieutenant Uhura) will be honored during a special Star Trek experience, with over 35,000 square feet of exhibit space dedicated to Star Trek and space exploration. Over twenty Trek actors will also be on hand for panels, photos, merchandise, and more. It’s like being able to attend a Star Trek convention, without ever having to leave the pop culture comforts of LACC.

Speaking of never leaving, I could listen to the hilarious behind the scenes tales and random ramblings of Evil Dead superstar Bruce Campbell all day long. Unfortunately we live in the real world, so Campbell has one panel on Saturday, along with offering photos and autograph signings, but that should be groovy enough!

If you’re looking for an escape from reality, the 147,000-square-foot West Hall of the LA Convention Center will be used by LACC for the first time, and it will feature eSports, gaming, and anime. You may also get away from it all by taking part in the official Los Angeles Comic Con Scavenger Hunt, by downloading the Oasis digital AR app.

Another interesting thing which differentiates LACC from other cons is that there will be a Laugh Factory comedy show on the Main Stage on Friday night, with a two hour lineup of standup comedy. Get your yucks and collectibles (Sideshow will have a booth at LACC for the first time featuring collectibles from the worlds of Marvel, DC, Star Wars, and more) at the same time!

There will be plenty of comic book superstars in the house as well, with My Chemical Romance singer and creator of The Umbrella Academy, Gerald Way interviewing Frank Miller (The Dark Knight Returns) on the Main Stage. Other featured guests include: Rob Liefeld (Deadpool), Jim Starlin (Infinity Gauntlet Saga), Donny Cates (Venom), Andy Kubert (X-Men), and more!
