Next Two Weeks in TV 12/19: The Matrix, The Book of Boba Fett, and Doctor Who are What we Want for the Holidays.

By DRWHO42 & Scott C.

This week is a 2021 Holiday Edition of FoCC’s Weekly TV article. This edition does not only cover one week but two weeks of upcoming TV, as well.

Let us begin by saying that a few season finales are capping off the year, most notably, Wheel of Time. This first season, comprised of eight episodes, has been brilliant and serves as a case for the fantasy genre being popular with general audiences, and the upcoming Lord of the Rings television series is also getting a lot of buzz from the press and fans. As such, we are excited to know that both are getting a second season. Yet time will only tell if the trend for fantasy series will also spark a Dungeons & Dragons television series.

The folks over at Disney have been keeping fans busy with tons of content to watch. Another will be the first season finale of Hawkeye on December 22nd on Disney+, and the highly anticipated series premiere of The Book of Boba Fett series on December 29th.

One of the biggest highlights in the lineup is the fourth installment of the Matrix franchise, titled Resurrections, premiering in both theaters and on HBO Max on December 22nd. The early buzz has been wide-ranging, though, which means you will have to see it for yourself to enjoy the experience and witness this visual spectacle.

There are a few holiday edition episodes to put on your radar, including the annual Doctor Who holiday special titled Eve of the Daleks airing on New Year’s Day on BBC America. It will be the first of three specials of Doctor Who airing in 2022, which will also be the final season of Jodie Whittaker’s incarnation of our favorite Timelord. When looking ahead, there has been speculation amongst Whovians that the series will return to Christmas Day with Russell T. Davies returning as showrunner.

Fantasy Island, a surprise hit from this summer, will also return with a special double episode on December 21st on Fox.

If you are looking for something interesting to learn about certain items, which may be under your tree or not, we recommend History’s fascinating series Toys That Built America. This series delves into the development and the innovators behind our favorite toys and games.

New Year’s Eve has many end-of-year specials and programming, which you will find detailed in our listing below (as well as with everything else mentioned already, or not). There is also a gem that stands out on that holiday weekend for Karate Kid fans everywhere, with the 4th season premiere of Cobra Kai released on Netflix. And premiering on the streaming platform is The Lost Daughter, starring Olivia Coleman, Dakota Johnson, and Ed Harris. Early buzz for this movie has been positive, and the film has already garnered several award nominations.

This year did mark 20 years since the cinematic premieres of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and Happy Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Fans of the Harry Potter franchise are rewarded this New Year’s Day with a special reunion special on HBO Max featuring many of the cast. As such, we are sure this will be a special occasion for fans of the franchise.

Since this is our last article of the year, we at the FoCC Blog would like to thank you for reading, and we wish you, your families, loved ones, and friends a wonderful and safe holiday season. We look forward to 2022 and another year of exciting television!

For one last time in 2021, please let us know what you will be watching when visiting the FoCC forum. You can also follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
