SDCC 2022 Hotel Lottery Date Announced

by Transmute Jun

It’s the event we’ve all been waiting for since early 2020… the San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) hotel lottery (also known as Hotelpocalypse). In 2020, attendees were waiting for the announcement of the hotel lottery when the COVID pandemic began. Unfortunately, SDCC 2020 (and 2021) did not take place, and so there has not been a SDCC hotel lottery since 2019. However, the hotel lottery for SDCC 2022 has just been announced, and will take place on Thursday, April 28 at 9:00 am Pacific time. The announcement of this lottery is another positive and exciting sign that SDCC 2022 will be happening as scheduled, July 21-24 (with Preview Night on July 20).

For those unfamiliar with the process (or those who might have forgotten over the past 3 years), the lottery involves entering a waiting room before the start time. At 9:00 am Pacific time, attendees will be randomly selected to fill out the hotel request form. Once you have been selected, there is no need to rush in filling out the form; the priority list is based on form access time, not form completion time. Still, it is important to gather your information ahead of time, so that you know which hotels and room types you would like to request in advance. For more information about the hotel request form, please click here.

Once the forms have been submitted, results will be sent out in 2 waves: the first on May 3, and the second on May 10. When you are allocated a hotel, you will have 3 days to confirm your room and submit a deposit.

Changes to the hotel process this year include a new 3% fee for making a deposit to confirm a hotel room. This fee covers credit card fees and is non-refundable, so do not make a deposit on a room until you are comfortable paying this fee.

While many attendees are eager to secure downtown rooms, it should be stated that everyone will have a room, although perhaps not in their preferred location. Even if the hotel lottery appears to be ‘sold out’, many out-of-downtown rooms (and even a few occasional downtown rooms) should be available for direct booking after the results process has been completed.
