A new and exciting tale in the Star Trek universe (STU), Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, premieres on Paramount+ on May 5th, 2022. The series is based on the years Captain Christopher Pike manned the helm of the U.S.S. Enterprise, before Captain Kirk took the Captain’s chair. Fans of the original Star Trek series will recall from the two-part episode, “The Menagerie,” that Captain Pike had been severely injured years earlier in a catastrophic accident. However, with help from Spock, the Talosians gave him a new lease on life on Talos IV.
Anson Mount as Captain Pike was introduced in season two of Star Trek: Discovery with Rebecca Romijn as Number One and Ethan Peck as Science Officer Spock. The new series will follow Captain Pike and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise as they explore new worlds throughout the galaxy in the years before Captain Kirk took over the helm of the Enterprise.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds also stars Jess Bush as Nurse Christine Chapel, Christina Chong as La’an Noonien-Singh, Celia Rose Gooding as Cadet Nyota Uhura, Melissa Navia as Lt. Erica Ortegas and Babs Olusanmokun as Dr. M’Benga, and features recurring guest star Bruce Horak as Hemmer.
The series will return to the weekly format of the original series wherein each episode will be a stand-alone story instead of part of an overarching year long tale. The series will stream exclusively on Paramount+ in the U.S., Latin America, Australia and the Nordics. The series will air on Bell Media’s CTV Sci-Fi Channel and stream on Crave in Canada. Paramount will announce additional international availability at a later date. There is also great news for the series since Paramount+ has already given the green light for a second season.
From what fans saw on Star Trek: Discovery, this series promises to be exciting and fun. I hope you plan to watch it because it is definitely must-see television.
