Legion M, the first fan-owned entertainment company, is bringing the heat to San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) with some legendary icons. William Shatner, Kevin Smith, and Christopher Lloyd will all be in attendance at Legion M panels, and in the case of Shatner, some very special offsite events that fans will be able to attend. I love all three of the aforementioned stars for the extraordinary artistic work that they’ve done, so I am looking forward to learning more about their new projects!
The Shatner on Shatner panel in Hall H on Thursday, July 21st, from 4:30 until 5:30pm, is sure to be jam-packed with fans of the man, the myth, the legendary actor and spoken word artist: William Shatner. From The Twilight Zone, and Star Trek, to traveling to outer-space in real life, everything will be on the table to discuss with director/actor/comic book man and panel moderator Kevin Smith. The pair will be joined by documentary director Alexandre O. Philippe, and producers of the new Legion M deep dive documentary on Shatner. I can’t wait to see this film, and to hear Smith and Shatner gab up a laugh-filled storm together!
William Shatner will also be on hand at the Theatre Box San Diego for a very special handprint ceremony, as well as autographs, photos, and a rooftop afterparty featuring a performance by Bill, with a meet and greet (tickets for each event sold separately). I had the opportunity to get a picture and autograph from Mr. Shatner last year at the 55 Year Mission in Las Vegas, and the experience was quite delightful. More information on this special Legion M event, including tickets, can be found here.
Back to the Future star Christopher Lloyd and Supernatural’s Ruth Connell will be on hand for a panel in Ballroom 20 on Friday, July 22nd, from 5:15 until 6:15pm for Simon Pegg is Nandor Fordor, Paranormal Investigator. This dark comedy film, based on true, strange events, takes place in 1935 on a farm in Britain, and is centered on a Hungarian-American para-psychologist named Nandor Fodor and a talking mongoose named ‘Gef.’ While Simon Pegg (Star Trek: Beyond) is in the panel name, please note that he will only be present via a special video message. Co-star Minnie Driver (Good Will Hunting) will also send a video message, and the panel will be moderated by Executive Producer David Baxter.
On Saturday July 23rd, from 4:15 until 5:15pm, in Room 6DE, join Legion M for a panel on How Fans are Disrupting Hollywood with Equity Crowdfunding. Legion M executives Jeff Annison, Terri Lubaroff and David Baxter will be there to discuss their latest project. Halloween thriller The Man in the White Van will be highlighted, with director Warren Skeels (Siesta Key), and special video messages from stars Sean Astin (Goonies, The Lord of the Rings), Madison Wolfe (The Conjuring 2), and Brec Bassinger (Stargirl), along with producer Anne Marie Gillen (Fried Green Tomatoes). Defiant: The Robert Smalls Story will also be covered, with producer Marvin ‘Krondon’ Jones (Black Lightning).
Last, but not least, will be Darknights and Daydreams: From Batman to Broadway on Saturday July 23rd, from 6:45 until 7:45pm, in room 6DE. This panel is about the improbable origin story of teenager Michael Uslan watching the campy Batman 1960’s television series, and then vowing to show the world the dark and serious side of Batman. Uslan eventually became the film producer of the series for four decades. Now this story has been adapted to Broadway! Join Batman Franchise producer Michael Uslan, Broadway producer Don Franzt (Beauty and the Beast) and Legion M’s VP Development David Baxter for a discussion of the journey of adapting Uslan’s inspirational memoir The Boy Who Loved Batman for the Broadway stage, along with a lively Batman Q&A and special video messages from director Lonny Price (Sunset Boulevard), screenwriter Alan Zweibel (Curb Your Enthusiasm), and producer Robert Nederlander Jr. (CEO Nederlander Entertainment). The panel will be moderated by publicist Gary Miereanu.
All of these Legion M events and panels sound fan-tastic (pun intended) to me. To learn more about these events, as well as two additional panels, please visit Legion M’s website.
