The City of Angels Hosts LA Comic Con
By Miclpea
Los Angeles hosts one of the last major conventions of 2022 with LA Comic Con, December 2-4, 2022. LA Comic Con began life as Comikaze Expo before changing its name to Stan Lee’s Comikaze. It later metamorphosed into Stan Lee’s LA Comic Con before becoming its current incarnation, LA Comic Con. The attendance for this event has grown from approximately 35,000 fans in 2011 and to over 100,000 fans in 2019.
As befitting a convention in the City of Angels, LA Comic Con boasts a stellar list of celebrities who will be signing autographs, taking part in Main Stage panels, and taking part in photo ops! Scheduled to appear are Simu Liu (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), William Shatner (Star Trek), Charlie Hunnam (Pacific Rim), Gian Carlo Esposito (The Mandalorian), Ming-Na Wen (The Book of Boba Fett). Elijah Wood and Sean Astin (The Lord of the Rings), LeVar Burton (Star Trek: TNG), and your favorite group of vigilantes from The Boys: Karen Fukuhara (Kimiko), Laz Alonso (Mother’s Milk), and Tomer Capone (Frenchie).
LA Comic Con promises more than a galaxy of stars. There will be artists and creators such as Ryan Ottley, Don Aguillo, Jody Houser, Joe Benitez, Larry Houston, and many more! To add to the excitement of LA Comic Con, the show will be hosting the 7th Annual Cosplay National Championship. Contestants will have the chance to compete for up to $30k in cash prizes with the 1st place winner taking home $10k.
However, LA Comic Con has not forgotten that all con and no play makes for a dull con. Partygoers will be treated to LA Comic Con’s famous (infamous?) party, The Afterparty-Raiders of the Forbidden Temple. This party will feature performances by Greg Grunberg’s group, The Action Figures and Tom Kenny’s group, Tom Kenny and The Hi Seas.
LA Comic Con promises to be an exciting and fun-filled weekend of panels, cosplay, autographs, photo-ops, parties, and so much more. To add to the plethora of festivities, I will be hosting two panels: Bridging The Expanse: Everyone Loves A “Good Villain” on Saturday afternoon, December 3rd, and The Expanse: The Greatest Television Science Fiction Series of the 21st Century! on Sunday, December 4th. This event promises to end the year on a high note for convention goers!
