Next Week in TV 1/22: The Wolves Come Out At Night!

By DRWHO42 & Scott C.

The week ahead in television is filled with excitement with the second episode of HBO’s latest hit, The Last of Us, and plenty more new entrants, which provide a great escape from real-life for a little while.

Looking back at the prior week, The Last of Us certainly left a positive impression on viewers as the series drew high ratings: 4.7 million. The Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, got 9.98 million with episode one. Regardless, our schedules are cleared for this Sunday night to watch the second episode at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and HBO Max. Also airing on Sunday night (10 p.m. ET) is the premiere of a new crime-based series, The Accused. It stars Michael Chiklis, Abigail Breslin, Molly Parker, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, and Wendell Pierce; and takes a unique approach by showing the events from the viewpoint of the accused. Fox will air the series premiere over two nights, Sunday and Tuesday (9 p.m. ET), following the season premiere of 9-1-1: Lone Star at 8 p.m. ET.

If you are a fan of Teen Wolf and a former vampire slayer named Buffy, this Thursday will (certainly) be the day to mark your calendar! Paramount+ is bringing the Teen Wolf pack back together for Teen Wolf: The Movie. Also premiering on the streaming service on the same day is Wolf Pack, which marks the return of Sarah Michelle Geller to series television. Wolf Pack is a supernatural series that focuses on a group of teenagers who gain werewolf-like powers plus adapt to the changes in their lives without being identified by the authorities.

Also premiering on Thursday night is an offbeat mystery of the week series starring Natasha Lyonne titled Poker Face. The series follows an unassuming traveler with the keen ability to know when someone is lying. The Peacock series has several notable guest stars lined up, including Chloe Sevigny, Benjamin Bratt, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ron Perlman, Ellen Barkin, Rhea Perlman, and Nick Nolte. For more on the series, please have a look at Jason Delgado’s article on the series, Night CourtThe Ark, and others presented at the NBC Winter Press tour, which occurred last week. So, click here to check out his article.

In television news, we are learning that all good things must come to an end. This week we learned of a few fan-favorite series that will soon be closing shop. Netflix announced that Cobra Kai has been renewed for a sixth and final season. The announcement from Netflix states that the conclusion will be bittersweet and promises the final installment will be the biggest and best of the entire run. NCIS: Los Angeles will also end after this current season, its 14th. Outlander was renewed for its 8th and final season, but the story will not end entirely as a prequel series is in the works.

As always, we will see you here on the blog the following week! For now, check out the listing below to see what else is airing soon, and don’t forget to follow us on Facebook and Twitter. Of course, have a great week!
