Next Week in TV 2/12: The Final Voyage for Jean-Luc Picard and the Return of Carnival Row

The week ahead on television will be one you do not want to miss the final NFL game of the season sees two teams fight for the Vince Lombardi Trophy, and the “final” adventure for The Next Generation crew begins very soon. Plus, the series finale of the Victorian-based fantasy series, Carnival Row, drops.
The excitement starts Sunday afternoon with the world turning their attention to Phoenix, Arizona, for the battle to determine the best of the best in the NFL, with the Philadelphia Eagles squaring off against the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII. Yet even if you are not a fan of football, the halftime show featuring musical megastar, Rihanna, and the commercials will provide plenty of excitement between plays. As a friendly reminder, if you have HBO Max, you will have early access to the fifth episode of The Last of Us right now.
If you are a fan of horror, you will want to add Netflix’s Red Rose to your list. The series, from the team behind Sex Education, focuses on a group of school pals who download an app that has a sinister plan for all who use it. Speaking of Sex Education, filming is ongoing and this week marked Ncuti Gatwa’s final days of filming on the series, as he transitions fully into his filming duties for Doctor Who. This news is bittersweet for fans of the series and Gatwa’s character, Eric, who brought a lot of energy to the role. Conversely, Whovians are (extremely) excited as we look forward to seeing Gatwa as the next Doctor in the not-so-distant future.
Star Trek fans, especially fans of Star Trek: The Next Generation, will have Thursday cleared for the third season premiere of Star Trek: Picard. This final season of the series will feature the return of the Next Generation cast for an epic adventure. We are excited to see the entire cast back in action once more.
Friday night has several options to choose from to wind down your week. First is the Polish series A Girl and an Astronaut, on Netflix. The series is a mixture of mystery and drama where an astronaut who disappears for 30 years returns without aging and tries attempts to reconnect with a lost love.
Amazon Prime’s Carnival Row returns for its second season this Friday after nearly a four-year wait. The return of the series, starring Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne, will be its last since the series is set the end after its second season.
Apple TV+ has been striking out on its own with original, yet imaginative series such as Severance, and this week is no exception with the premiere of Hello Tomorrow! Friday. The series stars Billy Crudup, Allison Pill, and Hank Azaria and takes place in an alternative version of the 1960s with a futuristic twist and centers on a group of door-to-door salesmen who are selling timeshares on the moon.
Last week LeBron James broke the NBA’s all-time scoring record, and this Saturday the NBA All-Stars will take to the court in Salt Lake City for a weekend full of skill contests. The first-ever All-Star team draft is where players are selected to either Team LeBron, or Team Giannis for the All-Star Game. It takes place on Sunday, February 19th.
