Next Week in TV 4/9: Mrs. Maisel and Titans Returns, Along With a Mini-Alias Reunion!
By DRWHO42 & Scott C.
The week ahead features offerings to delight fans of true crime and mysteries.
Fans of true crime should add Catching Lightning. It is about one UFC fighter turned bank robber Lee Murray, plus American Manhunt: The Boston Marathon Bombing documentary to your viewing list.
The week starts on the ice with the best-of-the-best in ice skating at the World Figure Skating Championships. Also on the highlight radar are the Returns of Titans and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Sadly, both series will be wrapping up after their respective seasons.
Jennifer Garner (Alias) and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Game of Thrones) mark their return to series television with the limited series The Last Thing He Told Me. The series, which is based on the #1 New York Times bestseller and produced by Reese Witherspoon, centers on a wife who learns that her husband is not who she thinks he is after his mysterious disappearance. She must protect her stepdaughter while seeking answers in the process. Fans of Alias will be excited about this series as Garner will be reunited with her on-screen Alias father, Victor Garber.
The off-beat limited-series Florida Man, featuring Edgar Ramirez, Anthony LaPaglia, Abbey Lane, and Clark Gregg, is worth checking out. Debuting this Thursday on Netflix, the series centers on an ex-cop with a gambling addiction who takes on what he thinks is a simple “find a person” job to clear his debt, and it becomes much more than he expects.
If you enjoy paranormal fare, we recommend adding the Netflix movie, Phenomena, to your viewing list. This 90s-set horror-comedy comes to us from Spain and is based on the true-life paranormal investigative team, Hepta, who is called in to investigate a haunted antique shop. Things, of course, get interesting during the investigation for the team when one of their own goes missing, and their investigation turns into more than they bargained for.
In television news, the red-hot Netflix series, The Night Agent, was renewed for a second season. HBO announced that Kit Harington will join the London-based finance series, Industry. Donald Glover is reigniting the speculation of a Lando Calrissian series with a hint of “talks” occurring.
At Star Wars Celebration Europe in London, several announcements thrilled the Star Wars fanbase. First, the Ahsoka Disney Plus series got a new online trailer, plus a premiere month and year: August 2023. Second, Lars Mikkelsen is officially Grand Admiral Thrawn in Ahsoka; he also voiced the same villain in the animated series Star Wars Rebels. If you need a reminder, Rosario Dawson has been playing Ahsoka since the character’s live-action debut in Mandalorian season two. Meanwhile, Hera Syndulla will be played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Sabine Wren will be played by Natasha Liu Bordizzo.
Third, Andor season two is eyeing an August 2024 debut, while The Acolyte is targeting the same year, but no premiere date was shared at Celebration. The Skeleton Crew will debut sometime this year, and Tales of the Jedi will return for a second season whenever it debuts. Overall, you can catch these new Star Wars series on Disney Plus.
Fourth, three new Star Wars films were announced, with James Mangold, Dave Filoni, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy working on their respective projects. The one by Obaid-Chinoy is 15 years after the Rise of Skywalker, which means Daisy Ridley is back as Rey to build a new Jedi Order. Filoni’s first Star Wars film will conclude all the Disney Plus series that he has worked on, while Mangold’s film will highlight the first Jedi.
And finally fifth, a new Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny trailer debuted at Celebration.
As always, we recommend seeing the week’s listing below to see what else is airing soon, and to learn more about the discussed shows. Oh, don’t forget to follow us on Facebook and Twitter. Happy Easter, everyone!
