SDCC 2023 Hotel Lottery Date Announced

by Transmute Jun

Regular San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) con-goers know that there are two major hurdles to attending the show: badges and hotel. While badge sales for SDCC 2023 (to be held July 19-23, with Preview Night on July 18) happened last fall, spring is the time for the SDCC hotel lottery (commonly known as Hotelpocalypse).  This year’s hotel lottery will be held on Wednesday, April 12 at 9 am PT.

As in previous years, a waiting room will open at 8:00 am Pacific time. At 9:00 am Pacific time, everyone in the waiting room will be randomly put into a queue to reach a request form. Once attendees reach the form, they are able to fill out their hotel requests. The submissions will be collected by onPeak (the travel company used for SDCC hotels) and requests will be filled in the order in which attendees reached the form.

While this process is essentially the same as in prior years, there are two notable changes for 2023. First, Hotels have been split into two (or more) categories, based on the number of beds in a room. For example, fans who wish to stay at the Manchester Grand Hyatt now have to choose between selecting ‘1 King Bed’ or ‘2 Double Beds’. If attendees would like to select both options, that will take up 2 of their (maximum 12) request slots.

The other big change is that there will only be one round of hotel results, rather than two (as has been the case in prior years). Attendees can also choose what happens to their request if onPeak is unable to place them at their preferred hotels. Head over to the CCI site for complete information here
