Next Week in TV 6/18: Fury and Zombies In The City!

By DRWHO42 & Scott C.

Summer 2023 is on the horizon next week, so here comes the brutal heat. But there is a lot of exciting small-screen content lined up!

First up, the limited series premiere of The Walking Dead: Dead City. This new series ventures into the Big Apple, and there are new dangers that Maggie and Negan must face to save her son, Herschel. The series may also satisfy curious fans, like ourselves, on what happened to New York City in the series’ zombie apocalypse.

Mid-week is the Disney+ series premiere of Secret Invasion, with our favorite leader of the Avengers, Nick Fury, being the main star. The series is comprised of six (6) episodes and has an impressive lineup of actors, including Emila Clark, Olivia Coleman, Martin Freemen, Don Cheadle, Tony Curran, Ben Mendelsohn, and Cobie Smulders returning as Maria Hill. Of course, Samuel L. Jackson returning as Nick Fury. Yes, we will tune in to see if there are any other surprises or cameos.

Fans of 9-1-1 and Chicago Fire looking for something similar may find LA Fire & Rescue, which premieres Wednesday evening on NBC, a suitable holdover until both shows return in the fall. Also premiering this week on Netflix is the German series Sleeping Dog, which centers on a homeless former police officer who gets involved in an investigation connected to a previously closed case.

Later in the week, King Kong and MOTU fans should mark Friday on their calendars for the series premiere of the animated show: Skull Island. The series centers on a group of shipwrecked sailors who learn that the place they landed is a lot more interesting and dangerous than they ever imagined. Lastly, nostalgic fans may notice some parallels between this new animated series to the classic movie The Mysterious Island. *Wink*

For more details about the shows discussed above, plus to see what else is airing soon, we recommend looking at the week’s listing below as it will be your guide to TV nirvana.

Looking back at last week, the second series premiere of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds was impressive and fun due to good storytelling and action. So far, it has been one of the best in the Trek franchise.

Arnold Schwarzenegger has been making a great impression on Netflix thus far, with not one but two series on the Top 10 list – FUBAR and his documentary, Arnold

In television news, the intriguing post-apocalyptic series, Silo, has been renewed for a second season. Netflix made several announcements during their TUDUM event Saturday. The event included several trailer drops for The Witcher, One Piece, casting announcements for the upcoming second season of Squid Game, plus many renewal news like Wednesday season two (2). FUBAR fans will be happy to hear that the series will return for a second season, and those who are fans of Stranger Things will be excited to know that Linda Hamilton is joining the cast of the final season of the series! And fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender got their first look of the live-action series.

As always, you can follow the blog on Facebook and Twitter. Happy Father’s Day to all the good dads everywhere!
