The Plan: Conventions To Consider in 2024

By Miclpea

For fans fortunate enough to get badges for San Diego Comic-Con, July is months in the future. Until then, there are other major conventions that fans can attend. The following conventions still have tickets/badges available and some might be only a short journey away from your hometown.

Fan Expo New Orleans takes place January 5-7, 2024 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans. The convention features such genre-favorite guests as Charlie Cox (Daredevil), Jon Bernthal (The Punisher), Katie Sackoff (The Mandalorian), Danny Trejo (Machete), and Vincent D’Onofrio (Daredevil).  The convention will highlight The Fellowship of the Ring, with the reunion of Hobbit actors Elijah Wood (Frodo), Sean Astin (Sam), Dominic Monaghan (Merry), and Billy Boyd (Pippin)!

There will be voice actors, cosplayers, gaming, and much more. The celebrity guests will be available for autographs and photo opportunities. And of course, there will be comic books galore, along with some of their creators and artists. This convention will be a great chance for fans to meet and share their enthusiasm for their series, comics, anime, and manga. Tickets are currently on sale.

Creep I.E. Con returns February 2-4, 2024, at the Ontario Convention Center in Ontario, CA. As the name aptly states, it is a convention for lovers of all things horror. The stars of the Scream series of films will be headlining the convention: Neve Campbell (Sidney Prescott), David Arquette (Dewey Riley), Matthew Lillard (Stuart), Skeet Ulrich (Billy), and Jamie Kennedy (Randy Meeks). These guests and more will be available for autographs and photo opportunities.

There will be a Creep I.E., Horror Dating, Inked in the I.E. (special tattoos), and exotic food choices called Creep I.E. Cravings. Another very special highlight of the convention will be The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 50th Anniversary Reunion! Tickets are currently on sale, although VIP Weekend passes are sold out.

MegaCon Orlando takes place February 1-4, 2024 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL. It is the largest pop culture convention in Florida and ranks among the largest in the United States. Celebrities such as Paul Bettany (Marvel Cinematic Universe), Robin Wright (Wonder Woman), and Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride) headline the group of celebrities who will be available for autographs and photo ops. In addition to the celebrity guests, there will be panels, cosplayers, sci-fi and fantasy attractions, horror, anime, gaming, artist alley, and animation.

This convention will have a cornucopia of events during the day and some occurring in the evening hours. General admission tickets are on sale, although VIP tickets are sold out. For fans who cannot make it to the West Coast for pop culture events, this is a wonderful chance to take part in a major pop culture convention.

Fan Expo Vancouver occurs on February 17-19, 2024 at the Vancouver Convention Centre in Vancouver, British Columbia. As with any major convention, Fan Expo Vancouver will feature many famous fan-favorite genre celebrities, including Bruce Campbell (Ash vs The Evil Dead), Giancarlo Esposito (The Mandalorian), Eman Esfandi (Ahsoka), and many more. In the past, Fan Expo Vancouver (as well as other conventions) has announced more celebrity guests as the time of the convention nears, and it is expected to do the same in 2024.

Fan Expo Vancouver will feature voice actors such as Jodi Benson (The Little Mermaid) and Tara Strong (Loki), cosplayers, comic creators, and much more. The celebrity guests will be available for autographs and photo opportunities. Comic books will also create a big share of the fun! Fans will have the opportunity to meet and share their enthusiasm for things pop culture! Tickets are currently on sale but the VIP packages are already sold out!

Awesome Con returns to the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC on March 8-10, 2024. Awesome Con is a relatively new arrival on the convention scene. It debuted in Washington D.C. in 2013 with approximately 7,000 attendees. This convention has since grown to be one of the larger conventions on the East Coast with more than 70,000 attendees in 2023.

Awesome Con has a stellar lineup of guests from fantasy authors Delilah S. Dawson (The Blud series) and Peter V. Brett (The Demon Saga series) to producer Jeph Loeb (Marvel television series on Netflix) and Anakin Skywalker himself, Hayden Christensen! These guests and more will be available for autographs and photo opportunities. All badges are currently on sale.

C2E2 (Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo) takes place April 26-28, 2024 at McCormick Place in Chicago. Although it is a bit early for C2E2 to announce guests for 2024, fans can be sure that C2E2 will have a stellar line-up of celebrities, artists, and other creators. In 2023, they featured Smallville stars Tom Welling and Erica Durance, as well as Star Wars: The Clone Wars, voice actors Ashley Eckstein, James Arnold Taylor, and Matthew Lanter. All tickets are currently on sale.

Comicpalooza lands at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, TX Memorial Day weekend, May 24 – 26, 2024! Comicpalooza in the past has had a great roster of guests, events, vendors, and creators. And because of its proximity to NASA’s Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center in Houston, NASA has a very special presence at Comicpalooza from exhibits to actual astronauts and space scientists. If you are a fan who loves science fiction and science fact, Comicpalooza is the convention for you! Tickets are not yet on sale but click here for general information and to sign up for an e-newsletter for the latest information.

Monsterpalooza frightens the residents of Pasadena, CA at the Pasadena Convention Center May 31-June 2, 2024. There will be artists, vendors, events, and guests. Although it is still early, Monsterpalooza has announced the appearance of Tony Todd (Night of the Living Dead), Andrew Robinson (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine), and Ashley Laurence (Hellraiser). The convention will announce more guests, artists, events, and vendors in the future as the time of the convention grows closer. Tickets are on sale now.

Finally, as some of FoCC Blog’s frequent readers may notice, I did not mention two big fan-favorite conventions: Emerald City Comic Con (ECCC) and Wonder Con. Both of these conventions will be covered in more detail by your intrepid reporters at the forum as we get closer to their convention dates, Feb 29 – Mar 3, 2024, and March 29-31, 2024 respectively. ECCC tickets are on sale now (VIP tickets are sold out) and Wonder Con badges will go on sale soon.

I hope to see many of you at one or more of these conventions next year. Please join us on the FoCC Forum (click here), Facebook or X Twitter to continue this discussion.

I love going to conventions around the US and Canada. I'm an ardent fan of all things science fiction and especially The Expanse. I'm a senior writer for Friends of CC and I have co-written a science-fiction script called Punctuated Equilibrium.
