Fan Expo New Orleans Bids A Fond Adieu Until 2025

By Miclpea

Fan Expo New Orleans ended a magical weekend with the city readying itself for Mardi Gras. The former Wizard World convention (which was purchased by Fan Expo in 2022) stands as a testament to the thriving world of pop culture, uniting fans from various parts of the United States in a celebration of geek culture.

What sets Fan Expo New Orleans apart from other cons is its diverse array of offerings and unique Southern hospitality. The people were very polite and friendly. The local cuisine was outstanding. On some days of the convention, a jazz quartet entertained conventiongoers in front of the exhibit hall.

Whether you are a comic book aficionado, cosplayer, video game enthusiast, or lover of science fiction and fantasy, the convention caters to every conceivable taste within the realm of pop culture. The convention floor is a bustling marketplace where attendees can explore a myriad of vendor booths, featuring rare collectibles, comic books, artwork, and merchandise from beloved franchises.

Like other major conventions, Fan Expo New Orleans 2024 offered fans the opportunity to meet and interact with celebrities from various realms of the pop culture entertainment field such as the  Lord of the Rings stars Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Billy Boyd, and Dominic Monaghan, The Terminator franchise cast members Linda Hamilton, Michael Biehn, Lance Henriksen, Robert Patrick, and Edward Furlong, along with Daredevil series stars Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio and Jon Bernthal (also from The Punisher).

My favorite celebrity panel featured Ahsoka’s Eman Esfandi (Ezra Bridger) and Diana Lee Inosanto (Morgan Elsbeth). The audience enjoyed the easy camaraderie between the stars as they told the story of how they were chosen for their roles. Inosanto also revealed that she is the goddaughter of martial arts legend, Bruce Lee! This is one of the reasons that I enjoy attending these panels. One has the opportunity to discover these hidden gems and insights about the stars.

There were also many stars from anime, gaming, voice actors, and amazing comic creators who dazzled fans with their art and abilities.

However, the cosplayers were not to be outdone. They showcased their creativity and dedication to their favorite characters. The convention hosts a series of cosplay events culminating in the Fan Expo New Orleans Cosplay Craftsmanship Cup. The result is a colorful and vibrant atmosphere where attendees can immerse themselves in the world of their favorite franchises.

Fan Expo New Orleans also offered a range of interactive activities. Attendees engaged in tabletop gaming sessions and video game tournaments and explored virtual reality experiences. These hands-on activities enhanced the overall sense of immersion and created lasting memories for fans.

Fan Expo New Orleans stands as a vibrant tapestry, weaving together the threads of fandom, creativity, and shared passion in a city known for its delicious cuisine and its supernatural happenings.  This is a convention that continues to grow and evolve with each passing year. Fan Expo New Orleans is a wonderful experience in a wonderful city.

I love going to conventions around the US and Canada. I'm an ardent fan of all things science fiction and especially The Expanse. I'm a senior writer for Friends of CC and I have co-written a science-fiction script called Punctuated Equilibrium.
