Anyone else making a return in 2020?
« on: August 08, 2019, 10:12:38 AM »
I took a few years off (I think 2014 was my last SDCC) and finally, next year I'm back in the game! Already have a place booked. I saw someone in another thread mention they're coming back next year too. Anyone else? Not gonna lie, I feel super old and out of touch already with all the changes LOL

I go every year to some capacity, whether its a 2 night weekend trip or a 2 week excursion is unknown at this time.  I don't ever see myself not going at this time lol

Nice! I use to go every other year but started doing some other traveling. I was just curious about others in the same boat who maybe took a few years off but are making 2020 their year to come back.

This was my first year attending now that I live in SoCal. I will be attending next year and adding on a day to make it three days. I'm sure at the least, I'll attend regularly for at least 2 days. I really enjoy Comic Con.

The plan is always to come back. So far that hasn’t changed!
Fun isn’t something one considers when preparing for Comic-Con, but attending does put a smile on my face

If I am lucky enough to get badges, I will be there!

After missing out on the badge lottery for 2 years in a  row, I was able to score a badge for Fri-Sat this year.  In previous years I would spend my entire day in the hall or in panels.  The past few years I have attended I have enjoyed the offsite as much if not more than the panels.  My wife and I decided that we will make it a yearly trip even without badges (still trying of course) since there is so much to do without one.  So yes, I will be returning next year and many years after that until my body gives out!

I'll be trying to return.  Just need my BIL to decide he wants to return as well.  Not sure if I would go solo.

I have a couple of friends who want to go next year, and I wrote them a looooong email detailing the entire process of acquiring badges and hotels. It included rough odds, the lottery, how to increase your chances, and other tips and tricks. As I was writing about how much luck is involved, it hit me just how lucky I've been to able to go every year since 2003. So the plan is to always go the following year until my luck finally runs out.

Same here. (Some of my friends who were interested dropped out after they found out how much it takes to even have a chance at getting in, lol.) In case my luck runs out, my backup plan is either to volunteer (this year volunteer reg lasted almost a month -- moving forward this should be an easy way to get in) or to buy CCI museum-sponsored passes from the official account on eBay if they do that again.

I didn't do any research my first year (2015).  I didn't even have a twitter account.  I didn't realize how difficult (and how blessed I was) to get a badge on my first try.  My first year, I stayed with a friend and her husband for 2 days.  Her husband was the one to tell me how difficult it was to get a badge.  Up until then, I had no idea.  In my case, ignorance was bliss.

I've been going solo since 2016. Its not so bad actually. Well, in 2018, I took my mom, but i was kind of still solo as she went and did her thing and i went and did my thing. I would have liked to meet some friends by now but it hasn't happened, so, i dunno. Until i do, i'm "solo-dolo" and its not that bad! :)

I tend to go solo-ish as well.  I prefer the freedom.  Solo-ish since there are some people I do hang out with at comic-con that I only see at comic-con.  Also, I'm rarely at an event like a party "alone" since I make friends with people while I'm line.  Then we hang out during the event.  Some I never see again but it's not uncommon that I run into them just wandering about.  Like most people on vacation, people at comic-con are approachable and ready to mingle.  It's even easier at comic-con since you have a common connection.  I wouldn't be concerned about going to comic-con solo.

Well my 1st time 6 years ago was supposed to be a once in a life time trip (my wife always reminds me of this).  Been going back every year since and can't imagine missing out.  I've thought about skipping a year to try NYCC or something else but have made so many amazing friends at SDCC I just couldn't do it.  Believe I'll be going every year as long as I can.
