I heard a rumore that it sold out faster then last year. People think they gave out less badges for returnee registration. I don't know if that's true though.

Not a rumour, check my timestamps above.  Took 6x something minutes this year, 77 last.  So about 10+ % ish faster this year.

Jives with one of the yellow status bar update messages iirc -- [member=317]Zero[/member], isn't there usually one along the lines of "we are slowly letting people into registration sessions" early in the sale?

Sure enough, on Saturday just after 9:00 am we saw the following: "We are slowly moving people to registration sessions to ensure that the system is running efficiently. We will continue to update you here with any changes."

According to that article:

And finally, at 58 minutes in  - just a little above 2015’s 50 minutes, and much better than 2016’s 77 minutes - badge sales for Returning Registration were over.

So judging off of that, there are really maybe 2 conclusions here:
1. The sold a little less badges in 2017 than 2016
2. The system was much smoother/improved and they were able to service more people at once (i.e. if they let people in by randomized 'groups,' then maybe they let more people into each group)

I suspect #2 more than #1.  It's easy to believe that Pre-Reg (or RetReg - gonna take me awhile to make that change in the lexicon) was delayed so long so CCI can beef up the software and hardware to provide for a more robust traffic as well as keeping them smooth.  Over the years I would think the number of people let into each 'group' has grown as reliability on the servers & software has improved.  If that's the case, then it makes sense that things would sell-out quicker due to higher volume of attendees processed at any given time.

A more telling answer may be how long GenReg lasts: if it lasts longer than the argument for "less badges in Pre-Reg released" would hold more water.

Really, we're all just speculating, though.  Hopefully no one is having anxiety or false greater hopes thinking "more badges in Open Reg. = I have a better shot!"

Yeah, it's all wild speculation unless we know the rate at which people are moved into the sale, which we never will. We're missing one of the variables, so any conclusions we come to are pure conjecture if all we're basing it on is timestamps of days selling out.

Do you suppose it was slow during the first half-hour because Expo Logic wanted to make sure the system wasn't overwhelmed?

Question, my friend bought our badges in the sale, first time credit card was declined, called CC company, then it went through and CCI sent her a receipt. However, we have not received the badge barcode email yet.

Thoughts? should I contact CCI or just wait until next week?

Thanks!

I think it was an incremental increase.  They started with one or two small groups to make sure the system worked from beginning to end, then increased the number of people per batch until they hit a good clip without overtaxing their system.

I had the same experience--my credit card company flagged the purchase as suspicious, but it went through after I called to authorize it. I didn't get my barcoded confirmation until I emailed them at [email protected]. I had my confirmation about three minutes later.

Which is why I called AMEX the day before to let them know I might be making a big online purchase the following day.  My banks do this to me all the time.

Same here...called up MasterCard, told them of an impending transaction from 'San Diego Comic Con'...and we're good.

Ditto, I did the same thing and called them the day before, I didn't want any hiccups.

I did that as well, and they were like "we can only do a 24 hour notification" which I thought was weird...I mean why can't you just note the account...it must be something to do with logging it as a system note for it not to flag the purchase...so I called 8a of the sale for the purchase...all good...

Note: for those in OpenReg, do the same thing, even if returning to help out buying groups.
