If you are a member of the press and attend cons as press/media (SDCC or any other cons) please post here and include the name of your outlet. I will keep a running list in this opening post. Press will be listed by outlet, in alphabetical order.

So who out there is a press attendee? I'd quit my main gig so didn't get my badge renewed this year. Anyone ever had success getting a badge as a freelancer? Seems like they've really cracked down unless you're with an outlet who provides an assignment letter.

As of late, I have noticed it being harder for freelancers to get in. This shifted over a few years ago and it got to the point where I had to create my own outlet to even have a chance. Not only SDCC but many others too. I have a feeling that it comes down to humans abusing the system.

I've honestly never tried as a freelancer but I think it's a general trend at conventions that they're getting more strict with their requirements. Unless you've got massive social media reach, you probably won't get in as press unless you're with an outlet.

Emails have gone out that press registration is open for Wonder Con and Comic Con :

Great news! Both WonderCon Anaheim and Comic-Con 2020 press badge registration are now open! Follow the instructions below to register for each convention and be sure to pay special attention to the advance shipping deadlines.

For WonderCon Anaheim 2020, all badge requests must be submitted by February 21, 2020 to qualify for advance shipping. The WonderCon Anaheim 2020 press registration system will close on Friday, March 6, 2020. You must submit your requests prior to this deadline.

For Comic-Con 2020, all badge requests must be submitted by May 8, 2020 to qualify for advance shipping. The Comic-Con 2020 press registration system will close on Friday, July 3, 2020. You must submit your requests prior to this deadline.

To submit registration requests on behalf of your press outlet, log in to your Comic-Con Member ID account and select the “Press” tab. Click the blue “Log In to Outlet Portal” button. Select either “WonderCon Anaheim Registration” or “Comic-Con Registration” to begin the request process.

IMPORTANT: Each individual you register will be sent an email with instructions on how to complete their registration request. Press badge registration is INCOMPLETE until they agree to the Press Terms and Conditions for each convention they are registered for.

Once press registration closes for each convention, any changes or additions (if eligible) must be done onsite at the press desk. Please make sure to submit all changes prior to the convention deadlines above, or they will not be included on the official press list.

We are unable to ship badges to an international address. If you have an international address or if you register after the advance shipping deadline, your badge will be available for onsite pick up only.

For more information and frequently asked questions regarding Comic-Con press registration, please click here. For the WonderCon Anaheim Press FAQ, click here.

We look forward to seeing you in 2020!

Sincerely,

Karen Mayugba

APOIAF was going to have an increase in press attendees this year, though it is all moot now  :(

I just really need them to roll my press badge over and not count this as one of the two years of having it.

There's no indication they'll take a year, but I'm paranoid and there's also no indication they WON'T...

Also hoping they don’t make outlets reverify for next year but I have a feeling we won’t find out until the fall.

SDCC Unofficial Blog is reporting that outlets verified for this year will not have to reverify next year. As a member of a smaller outlet, I'm relieved.

I'm reading that as if you did not have to apply for Press in 2020, you are good for 2021, but if you DID have to apply in 2020, you'll have to reapply for 2021? Is that how other people are reading it or am I overthinking it?

My outlet was approved for 2020 and traditionally that would carry us through 2022, but it sounds like we'll have to reapply for 2021 instead?

This was a direct email response from CCI to the blog, so maybe they only asked about not due outlets? I would wait to see what the CCI official email sent out to all key contacts says before worrying. Hopefully, they offer more clarification.

Personally I think it would be weird to not extend for ALL outlets regardless of whether they just reverified or were not due.
