CCI announced it would be holding WC 2016 in LA. the dates of Easter weekend have been floated, March 26-28
Does anyone know/recommend a good hotel near the center for next year? Yes, I have been looking and found some good ones (3-stars/4-stars), but some insider stuff would be nice/helpful in order to make a final decision. ^-^

Thank you Zero! Helps out a lot! :)
@Carlo
Most likely I will wait. That said, I like to look ahead in order to have the planning process go much more smoothly. I also will be busy planning for SDCC '16 around the time WonderCon is happening. Overall, less things to worry about the better things will be.
So with those hotels at anime expo, is there a shuttle that takes you to the convention center?
Though I may just stay in my favorite place, the Miyako in Little Tokyo. It’s ~2 miles away, which is just above walking distance but there's a direct bus route. Little Tokyo is also a good area to be at night, with shops/restaurants/bars many that are open late.thx for the tip, it's blocked off starting on march 1 2016. i'm hoping it'll open up on aug 1st

anyone know what the parking is like at the LA venue? Is it close? is it expensive?
We were thinking of staying at Century City and riding the I think subway into downtown. Question is this safe and how long of a trip?

During Comikaze, it cost $20 to park at the LA convention center. You can find parking a couple blocks away for $10+, but we opted for the convenience of being right at the convention center. You go to the exit of the parking garage and you're in the convention center already.
Where in Century City? There is no subway near Century City, unfortunately. There is a light rail train somewhat near Century City, at the Culver City Station. I believe there is a free Park & Ride parking lot, and it takes about 30 min. You'll get off at the Pico station, just across the street from the convention center. If you don't have a car, you'd have to take a bus or cab to the station. As for safety, I'd say daytime riding is fine, but nighttime, I would be a little wary.I have no idea what public transportation is like in LA, but I know I don't want to drive around downtown. What is this? Any info is appreciated (https://www.friendsofcc.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F15%2F07%2F27%2Fbcd9d678eca78bc1da96c1663ca384cf.jpg&hash=84a13823b5d9b1dad4f4aa0939f3b03328739073)

The image is a partial map of the Red Line Metro Rail. Each circle is a different station or stop. Thanks for all he information it will help me out a lot.
The Red Line Metro Rail is basically one of the light rail trains in Los Angeles. Think of the Metro Rail like the trolleys you see in San Diego. However, the Metro Rail trains in L.A. are actually accented with the color that they're supposed to represent, while San Diego only has the single red color for all of the trolleys.
The Red Line services many stops and locations, as shown on this map: http://media.metro.net/riding_metro/bus_overview/images/802.pdf
It goes through Downtown Los Angeles, Hollywood, Universal City (where Universal Studios is), and North Hollywood, to name a few. You can connect to different Metro Rail lines (like Blue, Gold, Purple, Green, etc.) to get around the greater Los Angeles area.
In Los Angeles, you can use cash and coins, or the TAP card, for public transportation. The TAP card similar to how San Diego uses the Compass card. You load the TAP card with money and then you tap onto a small service kiosk when you want to go on a bus or metro rail.
More information about Metro fares:
"Metro’s base fare is $1.75. You can pay cash each time you board a Metro bus (bus operators don't carry change, so you'll need exact fare) or buy and add value to a reusable TAP card from TAP vending machines at Metro Rail or Metro Orange Line stations.
Reduced cash fares are available for senior and disabled riders with valid proof of status.
If you’re going to be a frequent rider, a 30-Day Pass or 7-Day Pass may be your best value. There are several types of Reduced Fare Passes for student, senior and disabled riders as well; a Day Pass is also available. All are sold on stored value cards called TAP cards at hundreds of locations throughout the county.
If you're getting on a Metro bus with a pre-paid pass or stored value on a TAP card, simply tap it on the farebox's TAP target as you board. On Metro Rail lines and the Metro Orange Line, you need to tap your card on the turnstile or station validator as you enter the station."
Here are some guides from the Metro website to get you started:
How to ride with a TAP card:
http://www.metro.net/riding/getting-started/
http://www.metro.net/riding/fares/how-ride-tap/
How to load a TAP card: http://www.metro.net/riding/fares/load-tap-card/
TAP card FAQs: http://www.metro.net/riding/fares/faq/
When trying to figure out the best routes for public transportation, use the Trip Planner on the Metro website. You can also trying using Google Maps to see if they'll give you a different or alternate route as well.
Trip Planner: http://socaltransport.org/tm2_text.php
Once you have a general idea of the buses or metro rails you need to take, you can start figuring out ride fare, how much you'll need to load onto the TAP card to cover your round-trips back and forth from your destinations (TAP cards are much easier to use than carrying exact change all the time for each ride), and which stops you'll need to get off of.
Extra tidbits:
For a Metro destination guide (attractions at the different stops along the various stations for the Metro Rail):

Hope that helps, and good luck! ^__^d
Thanks for all he information it will help me out a lot.
I know there's a metro stop in Anaheim but as I recall its not really near the Anaheim Convention Center. If you were thinking of taking public transportation, I might suggest taking Amtrak from Union Station down to Anaheim, which lets off at Angel Stadium (about 1-2 miles from the convention center), and uber from there
Oh right! I keep forgetting its in LA this year. Silly me!
You can also take the ART (Anaheim Resort Transit) bus from a hotel near the Amtrak station. It will take you straight to the Anaheim Convention Center.
Here's a quick travel guide:
Use the Amtrak, get off at Angel Stadium, walk to Ayres Hotel, and use an ART bus to go to Anaheim Convention Center. Just make sure you get off at the convention center and not at the last stop (which is Disneyland).
The Ayres Hotel is located near the Angel Stadium, so if you get one of the ART buses (I believe it's Route 22 if you get on at the Ayres Hotel).
Google Map of the area around the Ayres Hotel:
https://maps.google.com/maps?oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&channel=fflb&ie=UTF-8&q=Ayres+Hotel+Anaheim&fb=1&gl=us&hq=Ayres+Hotel+Anaheim&hnear=Ayres+Hotel+Anaheim&cid=11644717799680969871&ei=rtL-UoifEI7ooASIw4H4BQ&ved=0CPoBEPwSMAo
Here's a link to start you off:

The link should take you to the travel route (Bus Route 22) that you'll use from Ayres Hotel to the Anaheim Convention Center.

Just to be clear, WonderCon will NOT be in Anaheim this year, but will be held in Los Angeles. Therefore, getting to the Anaheim Convention Center will not help you for WonderCon this year.
Question. I have been offered a free place to stay but they say the drive is going to be 40 mins to an hour and a half based off traffic (they are also attending). Should I take the free place to stay or is it better get a hotel?
Anyone else hoping for a Marvel or DC movie panel?

uggg, sports
tj, there was something abt a place on friday---idk--- there's a meet up thread?
Oh, yes, I forgot about that! I went and looked it up. It is a proposed meeting at the Yardhouse.i doubt we'll have 30 people......
Okay, I looked them up. They technically do not take reservations, however if we have 8 or more, they *might* take a limited reservation. If we have 30, we can book a private party for $25 per person, which includes a starter and entree, which sounds reasonable to me. But I don't know if we'd have that many?

Probably the last couple WCA have had WB/DC premiers.I have complied a list of DC animated movies and placed the venue with year next to it if they have premiered at a comic convention. Looks like the DC animated movies have been at wondercon for the past 5 years starting in 2011 when it was still in San Francisco.

Lines are nothing like SDCC, and will likely be even less this year with the venue change. The only thing you have to line up for super early is if you want some of the limited autograph signings (the ones hosted by CCI) or the very front on the main panel room. In Anaheim, we had no problem just walking into the main panel room for the biggest panels 30-60 minutes in advance.
So my sister may need help from CCI because of her left ankle injury. All depends how she feels when it gets closer, but if she contacts them, what are the odds they help her out a month away from the con?
What do you mean by 'help her out'?That is what I meant! Sorry for any confusion here. Was typing on my phone right before a movie started. Rushed it. (Edited my first post to better explain what I meant.) But yeah, she has a injury from running that will require rehab and 6-8 weeks to heal. So yes, right now, she has trouble walking and might still when the con rolls around. She can't put any weight on that left foot, especially during the 6-8 weeks. It needs to heal correctly.
If she's having difficulty standing/walking, you can go by the disabled services desk at the con and register her there.
Does Wondercon have a bag check like Comic-Con? Somewhere in the lobby or nearby where you can leave items for a fee? I looked at the website but I can't find anything.
I tried searching the CCI site for WonderCon Bag Check and could not find it

Wow, time sure went fast. But what a fun time it was! All of you that I met again and to those I met for the first time, it was truly an honor and awesome experience. Can't wait to meet you all again in July! This community rocks! And if some of you are still heading home, safe travels.
