Transmute Jun:
I have noticed more celebrities attending cons to sell autographs and photo ops. They are all abiding by union guidelines as long as they only speak about past projects, and not current/future ones.

Union guidelines don’t let them talk about past projects either.  At Fan Expo, Zachary Levi was trying to dance around the titles of his projects, i.e. instead of Chuck, he said “a show about a nerdy spy.”  And when he accidentally mentioned Shazam 2 by name it was quickly followed by “oh crap.”

So Ewan can’t talk about Star Wars or Moulin Rouge or Trainspotting.  He can talk about his Expedia commercials though.  But he’s funny and charming so I think his panel will be fun.  Also means Chris Evans can’t talk about the MCU.  He’s quiet and gets anxious at conventions, so a panel about his personal life may be more difficult for him.

Past work is also off limits if it is "struck work" (generally for an AMPTP company). The SAG website has a tool that its members can use to search if they're not sure, or they can reach out to their union rep with questions. From the public portion of the SAG website FAQs (You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login):

"Can I participate in personal appearances, conventions, and fan expos?

It depends.

You cannot participate in conventions on behalf of or to promote companies we are striking against. This includes appearances, panels, fan meet and greets, etc. involving projects produced by struck companies, whether current or past, and current and past independent projects that are not signed to an interim agreement.

You may participate in a convention in ways that don't promote your work on struck projects and that are not sponsored by or connected to struck companies. Additionally, you may participate in appearances, conventions, and fan expos for work under contracts other than the TV and Theatrical Agreements, such as TV or New Media animation or video games. (Theatrical animation is struck work and you cannot participate in events relating to animated theatrical content during the strike.)"

NCDS:
For the panels that occur I could see no fan questions.  Then they can fully monitor the content.

sefton42:
Or they have people submit questions beforehand and select appropriate ones.
