I never spend much time at the Interactive Zone since it always happens to be so bloody hot. No seriously, that area just seems so much warmer than any of the surrounding area. But last year I did get a free mouse from the Guild Wars 2 booth, so that was cool.
-
Awesome! I regret not spending more time at this last year. But it was way off to the side so I only got a quick run through a couple of times. They had live performers on stage at times and at night they showed movies on the big screen. Definitely a decent place to hang at night if you want to chill or have kids. Just kick back in those reclined chairs.
-
I usually go there for a quick bite. The taco trucks was pretty good..Also wish i was able to sign up for the Avenger Therapy Session..
Did anyone do that?
-
It's a great area, and I wish I could spend more time there...
-
Last year was our first year attending SDCC that we didn't go over there. We really only had 1 day that we did off-sites and a lot of that day was spent in line for The Good Place. Always too many things I want to do!

Always! Last year was refreshing not spending nearly two days committed to hall h and I got to do and see so much more. Of course it caused me to spend more money as well lol

Nope! Maybe some specific activations might require one but I don't think so.

I'll echo what others have said and say I rarely if ever come here. The slightly out of the way doesn't do it any favors. It's a cool concept in theory, but in practice, I don't know if they make people think it's a worthwhile jaunt over the bridge. If they could convince some of the other outdoor areas that are closer to the convention to set up shop there (say the FX outdoor areas like in years past or the Dragonball Z tour), they could get a lot more foot traffic to head over there.
-
Every time I’ve ventured over there, there’s been tons of people. There’s no want for crowds.
-
yeah the area doesn't require a badge so it gets plenty of foot traffic
-
Yeah, I finally went for the first time last year. Tons of people.

Wait really no badge?! Was it always that way? I must have imagined it was badge required for some reason. Sorry for spreading misinformation.

since its inception yeah

Really? I go there all the time if only for the food trucks or on the way to Lolita’s Mexican. It’s not out of the way imo. You can take the pedestrian bridge. I used to get off the trolley over there though. It’s mostly packed with non-badge holders at times though. You’d have to pay to rent out the parking lots or open spaces in other areas. This is one big area produced by one company.
-
I've gone twice in past years and had a good time, some photos, nice activations and good food trucks!

I go there more than the FX outdoor area. But I do the offsites so the Petco Parking Lot is something I come across more than the convention center lawn. I think that is the major difference. For some people, the offsites might as well not exist so for them, it's out of the way. For people that do offsites, it's right in the mix.

Last year they upped the game and had live music during the day and night time movies on the big screen. They want to make it more than a place to hit a food truck or do one of the small offsites there. They want to make it a place to hang out. They had plenty of lawn furniture around to sit on.

They definitely did a better job last year but if they really want people to hang out there during the day, then they have to provide even more places with shade!

Did anyone else go check out the life size Gundam they had in Tokyo? What impressed me was not just the size, it was the level of detail. Even put on my reading glasses close, they fully realized it.

A couple of years ago, I watched them transform an empty office space into the Mr. Robot offsite. Only took them a few hours. The setup at Petco Parking is even simpler. Mostly it's just trailers they bring in.

The Twilight Zone experience is NOT WORTH ANY LINE. It's like 30 seconds long and basically just opening credits and has zero give away when you leave. If you missed out on reservations, feel glad you didn't waste a single second on it.

So which are the best off sites to check out? Especially if they give out free stuff.

This year... the offsites suck. Period! Very very stingy compared to other years in terms of freebies/swag. Experiences also not up to par with other years. Even the convention in general seemed lackluster in my opinion...
-

Only at the Interactive Zone or everywhere?
In the Zone, if you are into swag is Gundam. The bag or fan is easy to get. The line moves really quickly. The line for the gachapon or Gundam model kit isn't bad but is capped pretty often. Otherwise you can go for the 30 minute build experience, you get to keep the Gundam.
Elsewhere the most useful swag is the massive sunglasses at the Stan Lee Audible. The bonus is the interactive art exhibition is very cool and well worth it even without the sunglasses. I had my doubts about them but once I got them on my face, I kept them on all day and wanted to bring them again today. But they are massive and since I was indoor at the con all day, I didn't want them to get destroyed in my backpack. I might go back for another pair tomorrow. The looks long but moves pretty fast. Took about 30 minutes.
-
I got a pair after I went in there. It was different as an activation. Not sure I expected that. I wore the glasses for half an hour. They are kind of funky? I wear glasses though so wearing them over them felt heavy.
