Good news, John Boyega will be at the Hollywood premiere after all.  He just won't have his luggage with him.

Yoda cameo, huh?  Will be curious to see if that spoiler dropped in a TV morning show interview with John Boyega is a legit spoiler revealed a few days early of just Boyega and the interview being goofy

Great movie!!  A little bit of fun, a little bit of emotions, and overall well made film.  I loved the character development between Rey & Ren; where Johnson took Luke (w/advice from Yoda); and that there was NOT resolution of Leia via Ms. Fisher's death.  I both loved and was bummed with the brother/sister reunion via visions.  I was bummed we didn't get a legit show down between Luke & Ren but I loved the way that entire confrontation transpired.  I cheered out loud when Ren and Rey were kicking serious butt together and was bummed they didn't get to spend more time as partners (I really want an entire movie of "Rey & Ren: the ass-kicking wanderers").  I'm a fan of Rian Johnson's (and hung out with him at a bar the year he was at Comic-Con for LOOPER) and he did an incredible job with our established characters and taking their character arcs in great directions; the characters we were introduced to all seemed to have depth & found myself wanting to spend more time with them.  I look forward to a Rian Johnson-created Star Wars trilogy and I think LAST JEDI is at the top of the All-time Star Wars movies

I read all the spoilers last week and on paper a lot of what happens did not sound enjoyable.   On a fansite, I even saw that some were cancelling their tickets because the spoilers made them so upset.

But then that’s why story tellling is an art form...very glad I watched it tonight!   I actually never finished watching Looper but will for sure look forward to the Rian Johnson trilogy.

Was worried that Nien Nunb might not make it but he lives to become the new Wedge!

Absolutely loved it.  The trailers had me a little worried, but I didn't need to be.  I think the most emotional part for me was when Luke kissed Leia on the forehead.  Just knowing what would happen in real life made that whole scene more emotional.  I loved the fight scenes.  And yes, watching Ren and Rey fight together was fun, but I was more happy that she held to her promise and didn't let Luke down.  In all, I really have no complaints about the movie and plan to see it again.  I also don't know where they go next from here, but I expect to see the next movie on opening night as well.  And while this is not a complaint, I couldn't help but think that some of the cute creatures were inserted into the film primarily for merchandising.  But they were pretty cute.

Took the day off from work and watched the 8:30am showing. All in all, a great movie and looking forward to watching with my family over the holidays. I felt that while Force Awakens was an homage to ANH, this one deconstructed all the tropes of the original trilogy. The plucky heroes failed in their missions, Kylo Ren did not turn from the Dark Side...   The seemingly cowardly bureaucrat was simply a pragmatist and not a foolhardy hothead.

There are things to nitpick, like how Rey got control of the force so quickly and how she got back on the Falcon, but I think this should be enjoyable. .

YES!  And that's one of the things I LOVED about this film!  It didn't go as I thought it would, and I LOVED that I found myself thinking "damn that just happened" at times.  I loved how they set up Ren as striking down look ala Vader striking down Obi Wan only for Luke to pull a "psych!"

* I assume Rey was already strong with the Force and just needed a little bit of guidance on what to think/envision/focus on.  I'm maybe being apologetic, but Rey is clearly more badass as a Jedi than Luke was in his youth.  It makes more sense to roll with that other than bog the movie down with a training montage or something
* I assumed she made her decision to go to Ren and high-tailed it out w/Chewie ASAP (not unlike Luke on Dagoba)
* I was more wondering WTF is up with Leia floating through space: that's the one aspect that is kind of hard for me to reconcile, even knowing Leia has clearly been one w/the Force going back to EMPIRE (BTW I really dug the visual framing near the beginning with Ren on the attack and Leia sensing her son: framed VERY similar as Luke/Darth at the end of EMPIRE).

I saw it Thursday night and enjoyed it immensely. There were subtle humor embedded which worked well and the tone may appear darkish but it had the underlying them of hope which flourished at the end of the film.

Cast was superb.

Will watch again next week.

Just got back from an AM showing. Work has been such a pain these last months and it was nice to blow it off for a morning. Really liked the movie, especially the deconstruction aspects that [member=448]rabbitwarren[/member] mentioned.  I managed to stay spoiler free, which I am happy about. Of course now I have to keep my big mouth shut until the rest of the family sees it.

Will post more thoughts later since now I have to catch up on work  :( but

No trailers! I don't know if that's everywhere but the movie just started right away. Loved it.

The last scene was the most perfect thing, I wonder how many people caught that little detail with the broom.

Holdo might end up being my favorite part, a great character story done in just a few scenes, and in a way that kept you guessing.

One thing I didn't realize until just now was that if they hadn't gone off to find the slicer then Holdo's plan to escape would have worked and they wouldn't have lost as many lives.  Right now only Finn and Rose know that, (plus DJ and the bad guys, not certain about BB-8.) Seems like an important thing.

Biggest audience reaction was the applause at the little tribute to Carrie Fisher in the credits. R.I.P.

I'm such an emotional wreck.  Goodness.  I'll just do a bullet point rundown of things I loved and things I did not love.

Loved:
  • All things Poe Dameron. He continues to bring snark & soul to the new trilogy
  • Grumpy snarky old man Luke
  • The Kylo & Rey scene where they take down Snoke's guards.  Well shot!
  • The Porgs won me over! I thought they'd be stupid but they were kinda okay. I might want a Porg plushie
  • BB-HATE (BB-9E)
  • The "In memory of" moment at the end
  • PoeFinn Reunion! "Put on some clothes." Yes, I'm a shipper. What do you expect of me here?
  • The resistance ship jumping into hyperspace and cleaving through Snoke's ship
  • Luke just calmly walking out to face the First Order AT-AT's (and I think there were a few other things in that line up too) like NBD
  • YODA THO

Things I didn't like:
  • While I adore how respectful they were of Carrie Fisher's scenes, I wasn't entirely there for her flight through space.  I can't entirely articulate why.  When she first started to move I was so glad she wasn't dead.  But then as the scene progressed I just wasn't entirely sold with how it played out.
  • I loved Rose and I loved the overall themes that played out on the casino planet (lol what was the name I need to look that up) I felt that dragged on just a liiiittle too long.  And it was weird they could leave the fleet and come back so fast without being noticed, too.  But maybe that's one of those details you aren't supposed to notice.  I don't know.

I'm going to see it again Saturday. I loved it!

Rian Johnson did what Jar Jar Banks couldn't and made me hate a Star Wars movie. He also damaged the franchise in my opinion.  Bottom line: I HATED IT! There are more plot holes and irrational choices than The Room.  Seriously, this thing has an audience score on Rotten Tomatoes that's lower than E2 Attack of the Clones and Last Jedi actually earned a score that bad.  I am having an apoplectic attack.

I liked it. Not as much as Rogue One which is my favorite but definitely a good Star Wars movie. IMO, the biggest nitpick was when the Republic cruiser went hyper and knocked out the First Order fleet.

1) Things in hyperspace shouldn't run into anything in normal space. That was firmly established in the original movie.

2) Even if it did, why wouldn't the Republic just regularly take out Star Destroyers left and right with x-wings going to hyperspace. It was a great effect but just isn't supported by canon.

Now that I’ve had nearly 24 hours to think about it, Twin Suns 2.0 and its super super poignancy will be what definines TLJ for me and certainly enough to make up for the stuff I did not like so much.

Very random notes:

Billie Lourd’s character is one of the first we see and thanks to AHS, I went into instinctive fear mode. (Face of evil!!!!   Don’t trust her!!! Snoke is her brother!!! )  ;)

There are people who refuse to see this based solely on what they read from spoilers which isn’t necessarily the best way to go.  They can tend to be incomplete plot points without complete context and even I was wondering beforehand if Rey might end up carrying the “idiot ball” and acting out of character just to facilitate the Kylo Rey scenes.

I think what may happen in Ep 9 is that the force bond becomes so problematic that Rey finds she needs to learn to cut herself off from the Force.
