I hadn't received any phone calls yet. Since it's a backup, I'm going to let it be for now...maybe I'll go by unnoticed...maybe? Probably not, let's be real haha.

Just booked my hotel yesterday! July 19th - 23rd it ended up having to get a further hotel then I originally wanted because my first choice was already full for those days. It has free cancellations and changes until 7/18/18 so that's a huge plus!

Motel 6 Downtown (1.2 mi from the convention center) is available, only single queens at the moment though. ~$300/night with free cancellation and no prepayment. Through booking sites and directly.

I got tickets for Comic Con this year for the first time. Being overseas I always wanted to go, loved it and want to go back.  Never been to San Diego so didn't know where was best. Went into the hotel lottery and didn't get anything but found a place on Coronado Island. Its a nice place but a bit hard to get into town early in the morning (well being a foreigner I didn't know much about getting there). I tried looking at airbnb for next year (fingers crossed for tickets) but the places I tried won't take reservations this far out.

Coronado island is hard- it's almost preferable to get a meh hotel in Mission valley close to the shuttle route. at least transportation isn't a problem.

Can also try get a place close to trolley stop for green line that takes u to a stop right in front of con. there are actually 2 stops depends on if gotta get a badge before u go in to exhibit hall. so yes try get a place by shuttle route or trolley stop if possible.

Of note, The Keating (.6 miles out from the center) still has reservations available directly through their site. I believe they're only King beds, suites, or two twin beds though. Granted, I know next to nothing about the hotel, but I do know some of our forum members have had back-up reservations there in the past.

Has anyone stayed at the La Quinta in Old Town?  Curious how the transit is using the Green Line. It's a bit of a walk from the hotel to the transit center and I don't know how that will work out in a hot cosplay outfit???

I tried and checked google map and shows the place u wanna stay is like between 2 green line stations. and looks like u would be closer to old town station compared to one before it. and did u mean hot as in how it looks or hot as in weather wise that it gets too hot to wear sometimes outside.
