As many problems as I've had with TWD over the years, it was pretty revolutionary for 'basic cable.' The fact that a pretty gory zombie show was for awhile the most popular series on TV is amazing. I think Zach Snyder's DAWN OF THE DEAD remake + 28 DAYS LATER helped get zombies into the mainstream, but The Walking Dead ran with it and made for some good TV. I still think it's really unfortunate that Frank Darabont was fired. The series def. had its ups & downs, and I lost interest not long after Rick exited the show (I never felt like Daryl & Carol were able to carry the show, though I stuck around for awhile to give it a try). But as a horror fan it's great that a zombie series that prided itself on gnarly zombie gags was a hit and had such a long run!!
