I'm all wound up! - How do you relax before SDCC begins?
« on: July 10, 2018, 09:29:33 AM »
This year, I am increasingly getting all wound up as events, panels, off-sites and parties pop up.

My sleep is going to pot...while visions of elves and the new Godzilla movie run through my head.

I have packed and unpacked in my head 12 times already.

My appetite now runs toward Hershey's kisses and well...you can imagine where that will lead me.

What do you do to relax before the big show???

I have some essential oils I am using to spray around - like lavender, rose geranium, rose absolute & frankincense.  Those do help, but wow, I feel like a wind-up toy right now.   ???
It is 2024, and I am still asking...where's my flyin' car??!! @fannishmarcia

Relax before SDCC?!  Is that possible?  ;)

Honestly, I plan as much as I can.  Make sure I have my back up panel list ready.  Remember to bring my wallet and then roll with it.

Mentally, I just tell myself, I may not get to do everything I wanted but I will still have fun.

I found myself taking longer to get to sleep last night as well thinking about comic-con.  I have a perpetual little adrenaline buzz going on.

Fanfic.  Write fanfic. Read fanfic. Talk about fanfic.  Honestly it's the biggest stress reliever.  My Twitter timeline is a mess of fanfic talk right now.

Of course your mileage may vary but substitute "fanfic" with whatever your hobby is. Games, reading, TV, whatever.  Same diff.

We're pretty slammed at work so I'm stressing about that at the moment. I'll stress about SDCC this weekend when I haven't packed, still have to do my laundry, and need to find all my cameras, tripods, chargers, and associated cords.

This is kind of lame, but it's become a ritual. Since I'm all over email and social media much more than usual during the weeks before SDCC, I make a point to trim notification lists, unfollow, unsubscribe, etc. so that more of what I care about gets through. Like any kind of cleaning it's easy to put off but feels good afterwards.

It helps me too to unplug a bit. For the last few days I have taken an hour plus walk and (even crazier) left my phone at home.  Mentally difficult for the first few minutes but helps me out a lot afterwards. Yesterday I even saw some deer.

What is this relax word you speak of?  ;D

My boss knows I'm a wreck leading up to SDCC so I normally don't get put on any big projects haha. I just try and watch lots of TV when I go home and fall asleep super early!

This will be my 19th SDCC.  I don't really get stressed.  I do review the schedule a lot.

But, the key to less stress is to remember you can't do everything and that even if you don't get into your first choice panel or party, you'll still find something awesome to do.

You and I are going through the same things, lol. Plus, we moved and I haven't been able to find all our SDCC totes but it is so hot I haven't been able to do much looking for long periods of time.

I actually tend to destress if I just start packing. Get my pile together, make a checklist, a memo and a schedule.. and suddenly it doesn't seem all that bad. I dont start reading con-related twitter things until a few days before, just to avoid the negativity until its replaced with full hype!

Also [member=4434]Angel_[/member] what type of fanfiction do you write?! I actually just enjoy reading them!

I just read relax and sdcc in the same sentence!

In what world!!! Kidding, lol.

My way to relax I'd just pack early, make a checklist of things i need to pack, things i "plan" to do (cause let's be honest,it all goes out the window somehow) and.... Laundry.
Yall, is soooooo relaxing for me! 😍

The week before is just my nerves building up and making sure everything i want to bring is packed ..

Because last year I missed my flight. I caught the next flight out but i missed preview night by a few hours.

Wow, I can't imagine being on a plane flying in when PN had already started, that would drive me nuts.

I am seriously considering going the Dirk Gently route next time, minimal planning, ignoring twitter, not planning any offsites, just wandering around. Just a dream for now :)

My girlfriends and I always get massages the morning of PN. It’s a great way to relax and start the con!

That reminds me.

The last two years, I found a mani-pedi place and got a mani-pedi Wednesday morning.
