After going to Wondercon for the first time this year, I think a trip to SWC in Anaheim would be super cool!

So happy that we won't have to wait more than a year to go to SW Celebration- and back to California where it belongs!

Attend SWCA during the day followed by drinks at Oga's Cantina @ night- who's with me?

The previous Celebration in Anaheim was one of my best con experiences ever so I'm hoping to duplicate that.

[member=819]brand4d2[/member] - I would love to hear a little about why Anaheim was cool, as I am contemplating my first SWC.  I would have to fly across the country and I need some encouragement!   :)  Did they use the whole convention center?  Thanks...

No, but that was mainly because they had rooms upstairs for meetings, lines, and overflows and such. The exhibit hall was also VERY spread out. plenty of room to walk (and drink... that year they had beer/drink stands all over.. bad idea). I would go again in anaheim just cause theres a lot to do around the con, besides having fun AT the con, getting autographes, photo ops, buying exclusives, seeing the panels.

One of the things I liked about the Anaheim convention center for Wondercon was that if you stay at the Hilton Anaheim, you can just walk across the little plaza and not have to cross any streets.  They also had some great food trucks in the big plaza.  Cosplayers constantly were taking pics on the fountain stairs.  They also had much more seating outside and inside along the hallways.  Loved that!

I went to the Anaheim SWC and didn't love it. I'm not a Star Wars groupie though, more like a casual fan...so maybe I would have liked it a little better if I was more into Star Wars. The main drawbacks to me were that there wasn't enough programming for the amount of attendees, and most of the time they told people panel rooms were full after they started (even when it turns out that they weren't). Long lines for almost everything, even when there shouldn't have been (though I heard that this was mostly fixed in Chicago.) Also, YMMV on this next point but I don't like the area around the Anaheim Convention Center. All the meetups we went to were in hotel bars. There is nothing within practical walking distance except hotels, hotel bars, and a smattering of (mostly) uninteresting restaurants. (I thought Downtown Disney would be closer, but it turned out to be over a mile.)

My first Celebration was last week in Chicago and I HAD A BLAST!! I think I'm hooked, and am hoping to go to Anaheim. Having been to Anaheim for other conventions, I think it's a great location. And I totally agree that the Hilton Anaheim is the best place to stay, with the Marriott and Hampton Inn close behind. The proximity of those hotels really makes it convenient.

I think in recent years they've usually announced dates at least a year in advance, right? Given that we haven't heard anything yet, it's looking more likely that it'll be in the summer!

The first time I went was the last time they showed up in California.  It was easy to get tickets.  I can't believe they sold out of 4-day passes so quickly this time.  They are now sold out of most days except for Thursday and Sunday.  Wow.  Unlike for SDCC, it's more than a year in advance.  I remember last time, when they were still trying to promote it at a booth at SDCC because obviously, no one was signing up.

Anyway, we got our tickets.  Yay!  No way do I want to miss it.

I found when I attended in 2017 my evenings were free and we went to Star Wars Galactic Night (I think universal?).  I don't know if there is a difference when it's in Anaheim.

Do you know or are you assuming based on their other theme nights?  Because they might run it differently than their other theme nights since this is falling during Celebration.

I just picked up tickets today! I am an annual pass holder - so excited to go! But that's a bummer about Rise of the Resistance not being available.

AP presale sold out now but general sale starts at midnight online and 7am at the DL ticket booth. I figured ROTR wouldn’t be open. I’ve already been on multiple times but that stinks for other people

The Star Wars Nite event at Disneyland is officially sold out. Tickets were available at 5:32 am PT when I checked this morning. So, even with no RotR, the event remained popular.

As expected, so either the event did not sell out until later, or more tickets were added when I checked...

The truth is, it just makes more sense for everyone to move these major events online for now, whether you were planning to attend in person or not. There isn’t going to be a magical day on the near-horizon “when this is all over.” The curve may be flattened, and the numbers may go down, but the coronavirus isn’t just going to disappear overnight. And rather than wait until the last minute to cancel these events, organizers should try to be proactive and adjust to our new reality. You never have to get ready if you stay ready, right? I assume that virtual alternatives are already being discussed behind closed doors, but you know what would help? If event organizers saw there was some kind of online support for a virtual Con. We’re constantly seeing online petitions against one thing or another, but it’d be nice to see people band together in support of something for a change. This pandemic has already taken so much from us, and we can’t allow it to rob our sense of community, too.

I agree with what that article is calling for.  Do some people still really believe that SDCC or Celebration will happen this year?  I understand why companies can't cancel right now, they need to wait for the terms of their insurance policies to kick in.  That doesn't mean they can't go full bore on planning for and promoting virtual cons.  One doesn't exclude the other.  It's not either or.  Even when physical cons start happening again, there can still be a virtual element to it.
Title: Re: Star Wars Celebration 2020

I’m sure there are people who still believe these events will happen. There are still people who believe this is all an overblown media hoax.
But their waiting to announce cancellations has nothing to do with insurance. Their insurance policies offer no coverage.  The head of ReedPop said so.  In SDCC’s case, they apparently need to negotiate with hotels, and they probably need to figure out the hellish logistics of canceling.  With SWCA, it’s at the end of August, over 4 months away.  They may as well wait and hope for a miracle rather than take the financial hit.

Celebration tickets being non-refundable doesn't give us the east advantage of cancellation like SDCC tickets. I haven't considered the resale site.  Keeping the tickets would allow us to partake in lotteries and the post-show store sale.  ReedPop hopefully will still fulfill the pre-order Merchandise portions of orders at least.
The announcements during the show, books and toys, are my highlights.  I will miss the Collectirs Panels, though like podcasts, I catch online versions anyway.
The Star Wars Show element, watching the last Celebration on YT, would the staple of any safe, virtual convention.

I would rather keep the talk of cancellation of cons out of the individual con threads if possible. I know there are opinions on both sides and it is a very emotional subject for everyone, personally I have a VIP and I myself volley back and forth on feelings.

the fact that they have not cancelled says they are keeping their hopes up, especially given it is the last week of August and have ECCC in August also moving forward, but at the same time they have not started any Road to Celebration anything

Given the current climate, they may waive the non-refundable part like other events have been. I’m hopeful as long as it’s safe but Governor Newsom said large events are unlikely through August.

When I read Mario's post, I read that we'd be eligible for a refund, but didn't notice the transfer part! Hopefully that's automatic too, because I haven't had much luck accessing my Showclix account.

I read the ECCC thread and the process at  https://www.emeraldcitycomiccon.com/-Forms-/Ticket-Transfer-Request-Form/
If that's the template for any postponement, any transfer will require some action on the ticket purchaser's side, if it does come to a rescheduled show.

Greetings Star Wars Celebration Fans,

We wanted to give all of you an update on Star Wars Celebration in light of the COVID-19 virus.

At Star Wars Celebration, the health and safety of our fans, attendees, exhibitors, guests and staff is our number one priority. Given global developments related to the COVID-19 virus, we want to share some of the steps Star Wars Celebration is taking to actively and continuously monitor the situation.

We are in contact with the city of Anaheim, the Anaheim Visitors Bureau, and the Anaheim Convention Center. We are committed to ensuring that our event plans meet or exceed the latest public health guidance, including that of local and state authorities as well as the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

This is a very dynamic situation, with a rapidly changing landscape.  While the opening day of Celebration is still four months away, we are actively assessing the most up to date information and following all directions from federal, state and local public health authorities regarding large public gatherings in the state of California. In the event that we postpone or cancel Star Wars Celebration we will offer all fans the option to either transfer their tickets to the new event dates or receive a full refund of their ticket order.

Additional announcements about the status of the event will be made in the coming weeks as we review the most up to date guidance from state and local health authorities. We know how much Star Wars Celebration means to all of you, and we will make every effort to give you as much advance notice as possible regarding any changes to our plans.

May the Force be with you!

Whelp. The email finally came out today that they have officially cancelled this year’s celebration and will have it rescheduled to August 18-21, 2022 in Anaheim. People have the option to transfer (and get a pin!), refund for full amount or receive credit for Celebration merchandise. Not bad options whatever people decide to do.

Sad to see it but it’s necessary. Even if Disneyland is able to be open, conventions are in themselves a different beast of crowds and logistics. So, it’s for the best.

It was a bit jarring to see the new date, but Celebration hasn't always been every year.  And I think D23 is next year which would be probably around August, so Disney would probably settle to put more focus onto that next year.

Weird that a bunch of people didn't get an email xD I got it around 9am.

I think you only got an email if you’re the one who bought tickets.  Celebration badges aren’t assigned to emails at purchase, so if someone else bought for you, you wouldn’t be emailed.

They did the same thing with Villains after dark. Still no announcement on a new date. I’m guessing they don’t want to outright cancel and issue refunds but it won’t be the same without Celebration and a lot of people got tickets to go to both. Some people might not be able to attend a new date

Disneyland is scheduled to tentatively reopen mid July

Some Hallmark remarks in regards to their Celebration exclusives.

Quote

Q: Any word on the SW Celebration items?

A: hope to know and make an announcement later this month or early next month!

Q: Any updates on Ashoka and Clone helmet? Will they be available to Ornament Club Members? Thanks!

A: Ahsoka is a Star Wars Celebration exclusive only so not available to club members like the other three event exclusives. We hope to announce how those will be sold soon.

At Both. Target, it will be a Red Card exclusive.  Similar to the WW set, which was Lego.com and Walmart exclusive.

This year’s Star Wars Celebration Exclusive pin set features artwork by renowned artist Danny Haas and features over 50 beloved characters from throughout the Star Wars galaxy. To date, only two pins have been revealed – BB-8 (who was made available as a pre-order to 2020 ticket holders) and the Stormtrooper (which was offered to 2020 ticket holders who rolled their tickets over to the 2022 dates for Celebration in Anaheim).
This first merchandise wave features 3 exclusive pin sets that were known as “The Road to Celebration” pin sets in previous years. Each pin set comes packaged with an exclusive t-shirt design that can only be acquired by purchasing the themed set online. Please note, you receive one login per Star Wars Celebration ticket order, whether it is for multiple tickets, or a single ticket, along with instructions on how to purchase your pin sets. PopMinded by Hallmark plans to sell 2020 Star Wars event exclusives

In time for the upcoming holiday season, PopMinded by Hallmark will be making two Star Wars Celebration Anaheim event exclusives available for purchase for fans, November 12, 11AM CST.

The Star Wars-themed Hallmark Keepsake Ornament 2-pack, an itty bittys plush character with sound, and a popular PXL8 enamel pin design will be sold in limited quantities while supplies last. Items and links to purchase below:

Star Wars: The Clone Wars Ahsoka Tano and 332nd Company Helmet Keepsake Ornament 2-pack features the final season version of fan-favorite Jedi, Ahsoka Tano, paired with an armored Clone Trooper helmet of the 332nd Company styled with Togruta facial markings. Available for $40 with a total original production run of 2,000, which was increased in a second run for a total run quantity of 3,500. The quantities listed on the back will reflect this change between runs.

Star Wars: Rogue One K-2SO itty bittys with sound features the itty bittys plush styling of Casian Andor’s reprogrammed security droid with some of his bluntly honest quips from the film. Available for $10 with a total production run of 2,500.

Star Wars The Mandalorian The Child PXL8 Enamel Pin features a stylized rendition of the lovable, mysterious bounty from the Lucasfilm series The Mandalorian streaming on Disney+. First offered at ComicCon@home in July, then Metaverse in October, we held a limited amount for Star Wars Celebration fans. Available for $8 with a total production run increased from the originally quoted 2,500 to 4,000.

If you plan on purchasing two or all three of the exclusive designs, click here to add them to your cart. Limited to one of each design per customer, per transaction.

Q: On the ahsoka box it says LE2,000 and in the description it says LE3,500. Which is correct?

A: the original run was 2,000, but when we found out we were having to sell this online instead of at the convention, we were able to increase the run to 3,500 hundred to support the increased demand (like we had to do for the Probe Droid con exclusive). The second run will have the total 3,500 run qty. on back of box. The first run will still show 2,000. No other changes between runs.

Anybody else order the Hallmark Ahsoka ornament, get a shipping notice last week, but the ornament hasn’t arrived, and per USPS, the ornament hasn’t gone to the carrier yet?

Got Ashoka delivered on Wednesday.  Went from shipping label and then the next update was when the ornament arrived at the Post Office and out for delivery that day.  I don't have informed delivery.
