Oh, it's absolutely a money grab. I figure they're trying to recoup their losses from not having an in-person event last year.

That and for not being able to sell as many tickets to the event.  I don't like it but I do understand it.

The thing I hate about this is when things are back to normal they will keep it going.

Wow...just...wow...

In order to participate even in purchasing a badge, you gotta pay them ~$100 to be a "superfan" in order to then be able to purchase single-day badges for this year??  How is this nothing more than a money grab?  That's just...wrong.

(I get the 2019 fan verified, that's not my issue here)

Somebody enlighten me here if I'm not reading that right...

You all beat me to the punch!!!  Money grab definitely!!!

I live in NY, and have gone to NYCC from 2016 thru 2019.  In 2019, I only went for one (1) day, because that's all I wanted.  And that day was Thursday.  I had actually decided to skip it for 2020 before the pandemic, as I wasn't really that interested in going.  It's definitely NOT as much fun as SDCC (IMO). I wasn't leaning on going this year either, but if I have to pay for the privilege to buy a ticket, No thanks.

You’re not reading that right.  $100 if you want to guarantee tickets for you and a +1.  Otherwise you can take your chances with everyone on 7/11.  Think of the $100 as a way to get access to a presale for NYCC tickets and other ReedPop cons.

ReedPop posted the same thing for ECCC. I hate this and I'm not going to bite.

I'll be paying for the extra membership. I plan to attend NYCC and ECCC and if it helps me get badges with less stress, then it is worth it.
If I buy 2 badges for each event, then 4 days for one person costs $265 instead of $240. Not a huge premium.
I'm also hoping to use the early access to autographs and photo ops, but I don't typically do those. Maybe I can help my friends.
lastly, I would love if the Superfans were given some extra entries into the Funko lottery. :-) But I doubt that will happen.

All cards on the table, I'm writing this w/o having my full cup of coffee first, so I'm breaking a rule of mine here ;)

The math works above, and when you break it down that way it becomes palatable (shoot, I've paid $10 for a beer, what's an extra $20 to get a ticket right?), but the whole messaging and timing just screams like they're giving a big middle finger to fans.

Are you strapped cause this pandemic threw off your business? Welcome to the club for a ton of other folks. To hide this cash grab behind the guise of a "superfan" membership where you'll get 'some' perks? BS there too.

What they should have done is change the messaging. "Hey, sign up for our 'superfan' package and get great discounts on merchandise including discount ticket packages". I can see folks jumping in for that. But what they're calling out is just a blatant, well, gotta keep it clean folks, so, yeah.

"Pay me $100 for the opportunity to buy this thing before anyone else"...ugh...I'm gonna go have my coffee and then take the stress out on a few golf balls...

I don't begrudge anyone who has the means to pay extra, but I have one question.  What stress are you talking about.  I don't know about ECCC, but if you're talking badges, the tickets for NYCC don't sell out quickly.  They can take a few days.  As a matter of fact, you could have bought tickets for Thursday NYCC  up until that day in 2019.  Of course, all of that was pre-pandemc.

No stress?  In 2015 they had so many people trying to buy tickets when the sale went live that the site kept crashing while people were trying to check out.  Saturday (and when they had them, 4 day) tickets have sold out the day they go on sale every year since then, and people were out of luck if they got in the queue late.  So sure, Thursday tickets are easy, but if you’re wanting to go all weekend, ticket buying can be stressful.
It also guarantees being able to buy tickets to other cons too, and ECCC 4 day tickets have been selling out very quickly after going on sale.
Plus in terms of added stress, I’m in CA on July 11, and I leave on July 8 … so the opportunity to buy tickets without doing the craziness while I’m out of town is very tempting, especially since I haven’t ruled out ECCC or C2E2.

That was 2015 and a site crashing is a result of not allocating enough resources.
I don't stress out for NYCC.  I know all I have to do is to decide if I want to go or not.
In 2019 ,there were no problems with the site, and tickets for all days did not sell out immediately.  It took a few days for Fri - Sun to sell out, and Thurs never did.   It may be a different story for this year, with them limiting attendance, but I'm leaning toward not going, and my decision has nothing to do with my concern over being with crowds.  NYCC doesn't have the allure for me that SDCC has.  I wish it did.  It would save me a lot of money.   :)

2019 Saturday and 4 day badges sold out day of.  Friday & Sunday took longer; the next badge type to sell out after Saturday and 4 day was Sunday Kids badges.

Don't get me wrong.  NYCC is a big event, but...

You're making my point for me.  There's no stress.  Tickets take time to sell out (days and sometimes weeks) and Thursday never did.

Tickets for SDCC...  All days gone in approximately 60 minutes and you PRAYING you're one of the 900,000 people picked to buy even one day. Now that's stress.  :)

Most ECCC tickets don’t sell out quickly either...only 4-day passes and that’s because 4-days are a fair amount cheaper than all 4 days individually. Paying $99 for a presale (or even $50 x 2) more than negates the benefit of that. Saturday might take a week or longer to sell out and the other days don’t sell out until close to the con, if at all. Also ECCC, while nice, is far from being a top tier convention. Not sure about NYCC as I’ve never been but this just plain doesn’t make sense for ECCC. (And of the 120 current reactions to their FB post on the ECCC page, 80 of them are the angry face.)
