This is not the kind of post we normally make here on FoCC. We know that it can be annoying to come to a site and see requests for financial support, but we do not do this lightly. Aside from general site support, this is the first time FoCC has ever advocated for a particular assistance case. We decided to do so this time because the member in question has done so much for FoCC over the past 4 years:  Jopari, my co-admin. If any of you have met him in real life, private and quiet might be terms that come to mind. Yet everyone on this site has benefited, whether they know it or not, from Jopari’s hard work. .

Jopari has been **huge** in the background of FoCC, he is literally the first call I make when the site is having real problems. He became my co-admin in 2015. He spearheaded the site’s moves through two separate hosting services, sorted out a email hijack, secured the site, walked us through a DDOS attack, oversaw the installation of the FoCC Blog and most importantly, he was instrumental in helping to set up the badge buying groups, creating technology that allowed us to better communicate with each other in the madness of the sale, that was the foundation for the system the buying groups use today.

Last January, Jopari’s sister Laura had a stroke. She is young, so such a situation is medically unusual and the stroke diagnosis was not made in time for a clot-busting injection, which would have resulted in minimal long term effects.  As a result, Laura has a been undergoing a long rehabilitation process. She is doing well and progressing nicely BUT cannot work, be on her own or really function without assistance. This is doubly heartbreaking because she had just completed her PHD and had landed a job in her field of visual rendering. I had the privilege of spending a day with Laura at Star Wars Celebration Orlando a couple of years ago. Pictures are below….yes, there may be a family resemblance between siblings ;)

As a result of the stroke, both Jopari and his mother have had to alternate time spent with Laura, attending to her needs and paying for her support. Unfortunately, this will continue for the next 7 months as she continues to rehabilitate. We hope that she will be able to return to work at that point.

Please join us in donating to this worthy cause. We will be contributing the ad revenue from this site for the months of April, May and June our biggest revenue months of the year. The family is asking for any assistance you can spare, and they have established a Facebook goFundMe page.
If you do give via this avenue, please indicate that you’re from the FoCC site. This is the preferred way of donating.

Here are some photos of Jopari and his sister at Star Wars Celebration in Orlando in 2017 and one of Laura and their mom taken recently.

Thank you so much for everyone who has donated to my sister. She got accepted into a post rehab research program for acquired brain injury patients. Well have to pay out of pocket but we feel its necessary to give her the best chance of a full recovery.

My mom posted a fairly thorough updated writeup on how things have gone down so far on the facebook page for anyone wanting to learn more. Ill be heading back to vancouver soon to help my sister move closer to the research facility.

The update is in the main Story section on the facebook fundraiser page You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login
