Hi, does anyone know if the hotel lottery is for badge holders only? It says the email for the link to the lottery will be sent to badge holders but I was always under the impression that it was open to non-badge holders as well?

Up until now it's always been open to everyone.  But things change and we have no word this year.  I don't THINk they'd change it to badge holders only, but until official stuff comes out about it I can't say one way or another.  Likely it's open to all as it has been in the past.

I thought the end of the Early Bird sales was the sign of the coming Hotelapocalypse?

[member=760]chirigami[/member] It used to be, but last year early bird ended 4/25/18 and we received the email 3/30 for a sale date of 4/4. So it's not a reliable indicator anymore.

Which is good, because if the sale isn't until 4/26 we wouldn't get results until MAY, which would almost certainly result in my demise into a shaking anxiety-ridden pile of goo.

So I was looking through past emails and blog postings.  CCI has never given less than 5 days notice.  They have sent emails out the day before with the link but they announced on their blog about 5 days beforehand.  CCI knows we have to rearrange work, test browsers, and organize with the people we are sharing a room with.  I really don't think they are going to spring it on us with days notice.  Also hoping they don't gong to prove me wrong today!

Last year, we got the link to the lottery website on Friday March 30th, 2018 at 2:02pm PST for the sale on Wednesday April 4th, 2018.
For 2017, the email came out Friday April 21st, 2017 at 3:18pm PST for the sale on Wednesday April 26th, 2017.

So if they're consistent (which, given all things Comic-Con would be inconsistent of them), then we'll get an email this Friday.

I would so not be good for me if the lottery was next Wednesday as I'll probably be on my way to the airport.  Perhaps, I just show up at the airport earlier and hope there's no problem with the wifi.

Also, it is posted on the Toucan blog.  Last year it was on the Toucan Blog 3/27/18 and for 2017 4/21/17

As of now, the Hotel Sale is the second-latest it's ever been (I think, my personal records only go back to 2011).

2011: 3/9
2012: 3/29
2013: 2/26
2014: 4/8
2015: 3/24
2016: 4/5
2017: 4/26
2018: 4/4

2017 was incredibly late, but IIRC a lot of stuff was late that year? Problems with badge sales, etc. Everything has been incredibly smooth (and, for some things, super early) this year. WHY IS THIS TAKING SO LONG???  :( >:( :(

The Early Bird "end date" last year changed from 4/25 to 4/3, to end right before the lottery, once the hotel sale got announced.

Which is also pretty inconsiderate, especially if anyone was saving up/waiting for payday/etc.

Wow, I didn't know it had such a jump!  That is pretty crazy.  At least typically the Early Bird hotels pop back up after the general sale (either through OnPeak, the hotel itself, or 3rd party sites).

I wonder if the fact that SWCC is this week is the reason.  Onpeak may want their staff available to work out any problems with people arriving at those hotels.  Especially after the problems during Wondercon.

It's possible, although it would require a heretofore unprecedented level of forethought and competence from OnPeak.
