I used that fedex before and they were throwing peoples boxes of collectables around. half my stuff got to me smashed up. Just beware. Id rather use the shipping center inside the convention center.
Agreed. I had to use them last year after the con because the other spot was just crazy at the time, but luckily I had someone who was very careful with my items when it came to packing as well as selecting the boxes. I guess it is hit and miss at this spot, yet I was worried after remembering what happened to your Pops. x_x

I see. Was considering trying to get my hands on a room there, but I have The Solamar. Plus dogs, sooooo....clearly Solamar is the winner. I better see some pooches dressed for con.

You will love the Solamar. I have seen doggos there every year (even brought mine once) and last year they had a black lab named Molly running around the lobby every day with a ball in her mouth.

Its a great hotel in a great location and I honestly don't know why people never choose it.

We were at the Westin in Broadway Circle last time. How would you compare the walk from the MGH to that. We had little problem walking that distance.

Depending on which route you take from both hotels, I'd say MGH is slightly closer. This is always dependent on foot traffic and the like, but comparing the two, I'd probably go with MGH. Unless you have status with Westin or have some other reason to be in that particular area/hotel.

I got one of the extra MGH rooms and I'm very happy. 8)

I've never stayed on the convention center side of the street before, so looking forward to that. While I do remember it being a bit further than I expected from the convention center to the fulfillment room (and Funko Fundays) last year...it wasn't a bad walk, and it will be nice to just head upstairs after picking stuff up. It's also close to the anime/movie screenings in the MMM which run until pretty late, so it will be nice to be able to drop by those whenever I want. I don't do Hall H lines so distance to that is not an issue for me (Not to mention, no matter which side you stay on...you're further from the other side.)

All downtown hotels are expensive but pricing for this one actually looks pretty middle of the road at $309/night and they don't charge extra for 2 beds. The MGH is normally expensive, so the price difference between a regular night and CC night isn't as wide as at other hotels...meaning I don't feel like I'm getting *quite* as ripped off (i.e. the other Hyatt, Andaz is normally cheaper than the MGH, but at $313 is actually slightly more expensive during SDCC.)

I did. I had 6 browser windows open; all 6 got through. I received a hotel assignment from the first window that opened.

The Guild is open for business now: You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login.  Site taking reservations for SDCC dates.  Pretty expensive, though.

Most of us that have gone to SDCC for many years now have probably found ourselves having stayed at MGH at least once, if not more. In my own case, probably 5 or 6 times. So I pretty much know all the tips and tricks associated with it. Same goes with Omni, MMM and Bayfront.  It's crazy thinking back about all the hotels I've stayed at, some of which don't even exist any longer!

YES! There are at least four hotels I've stayed at that either don't exist anymore or are a different hotel:

  • Holiday Inn by the Bay - now Wyndham San Diego Bayside
  • Radisson - I think it's now Doubletree San Diego Downtown
  • Sheraton Suites - now the San Diego Symphony Hall
  • Wyndham Emerald Plaza - now The Westin San Diego

I was only able to get rooms to show up if I put two people.

Something happened between when I posted and now, because when I was there, I got a choice of several rooms/suites.  They were in the $400 to > $1000 range.  I even double-checked before posting.

Good.  I'm glad I'm not crazy.  Maybe the rooms filled up quickly after I posted.  I don't know.
