Listen, I'm on to you guys. It's not the flirting--it's that there are nerds among us who have FINALLY PERFECTED THE JEDI HAND WAVE. I hereby humbly submit myself as Padawan to anyone looking for an apprentice.  ;D

Shoot, guys, he’s onto us.

I am hoping that SDCC and Epic do something different this year with hotels.  With 2019 being the 50th milestone and fewer hotels participating in the  Early Bird Sale, I fear this year’s Hotelapocolypse is going to be more cataclysmic than usual as more badgeholders and  without-badge folks will be vying for rooms.

Don't get your hopes up.

The hotels and 'On Peak' are 'For Profit', and operate that way.  They are going to do what they think is best for them to maximize their profits.

For CCI's part, they negotiate the rates.  'On Peak' handles the reservation traffic, and the hotels provide the housing.  That's the crux of it.

I'm not criticizing, just stating my opinion.

That or the following week are my best guesses.

Yup. Past two Hotelpocalypses have been on Wednesdays. April 4th, 2018 & April 26th, 2017, both Wednesdays. For 2016, it was April 5th, a Tuesday.

All weekdays are equally terrible for me so I have no horse in this race.  Except I have early morning meetings on Tuesdays so maybe not Tuesdays.

Mine depends if it lands on a day we are closing the books or not.  April is when we close the year so I suspect any day will be bad.

This is what surprised me a bit. I've never participated in the hotel sale before so I just assumed it was only open to badge holders. So when I found out that not only do you not need a badge, but you don't need a member ID either; my initial thought was that this was going to be a clusterf*ck. Too many people vying for few resources.

Same. I work Monday through Friday, and although it's a desk job, trying to purchase hotel rooms during work hours is not ideal.

This is the part that confuses me about even having the option to put in your member ID.  Why have it there if it doesn't come into play at all? I wonder if they'll ever actually implement a system where you need a badge to participate or if it's just a left over option from an idea they had but didn't use.  Why is it there at all  :o

I think every year we think things will be worse and it's not, well except the first year they did the random queue. Usually, people had only one person in the room trying.  No one was prepared for that.  Nowadays my roommates and I all try, then whoever gets in first enters for us and we close down the other forms for fear of duplicate info.

But overall I don't think more people will flock to the hotels because it's the 50th.  I think that occurred during general badge sale.  While many attend the con outside the 50th doesn't really impact them as much.  Most of that will be inside the con.

I think you nailed it, left over from an idea they were going to do, then realized it was too much work.  Or CCI asks them to collect it so they can determine the % of badge holders trying for rooms?
