So this week I get a jury summons for dates in early April.  All I can think is, how do I participate in hotel registration if I'm on a jury?  "Judge, can we please call a recess?  And can someone escort me to a location with a good wifi signal.  This won't take long."

Suffice it to say I requested a postponement in the dates until at least May.  With my luck they'll give me new dates that take place during the actual con.   :'(

I can't even imagine trying to work jury duty around the hotel sale and SDCC itself. I, probably shouldn't say this lest the registration system somehow sees this, haven't been called for jury duty since my third year of uni/college, which would be like 2011 or 2012. There is a reason they didn't call me for it and it was a legitimate reason (and still is to a certain extent), but for some reason they never put me back on the active list and I've not been inclined to let them know... especially because it can't interfere with my plans now.

I'm trying to catch-up with all that's gone down in the hotel thread. I started a new job and a new class, so I've just been completely MIA from everywhere.

Is $283 per night for Four Points by Sheraton (downtown) a good hotel idea for a backup plan for SDCC? From what I can tell you can get to a shuttle from there and its refundable up to the end of June. What do you think....?

Wow yes that's a fairly good price for something downtown.  It's a little further away than I personally like to stay, but still a lot closer than, say, Mission Valley or something.

You might as well go for it, especially since it's refundable!

Yeah Jury Duty sounds like it would be difficult to work around SDCC planning.  That being said when I recently had Jury Duty they had free wifi and we stayed in the waiting area until 9:30 or so.  So it could have been done.  I had to to SDCC registration while at Stan Lee's LA ComicCon 2 years ago.

It's been such a long time since returning registration that I've been in Comic-Con sleep mode.  Finally time to wake up and start getting myself ready.  Started planning some costumes.  I'm only doing WonderCon one day this year because we're also going to DragonCon.  I just hope to have better luck on my own in the hotels this year.  I was really good at the fast entry but since they switched it to entry time I've had to rely on the kindness of others to get a good room.

Just wanted to thank all of you for the great info I've found here. This is my 3rd SDCC but 1st hotel lottery and I am super nervous, but you all have eased my stress a bit.

Just curious...

If this is your 1st lottery after having been to 2 SDCC's, what did you do for housing the first 2 years.

1st year, I did early bird at Days Inn in MV. Last year my husband found a decent place on Air BNB that was in Old Town and pretty cheap.  This year we want to stay close to the action if possible, which is why I'm going for the hotel lottery.

That's interesting. If it will take place 1-3 weeks after Wondercon, so the likely dates will be April 10th or 17th Wed?

Please don’t be April 10, that’s when I fly to Star Wars Celebration!

We didn't attempt the hotel lottery until our 4th year (2015) when the allure of downtown became too great... Now we HAVE to stay downtown, haha.

It gets harder every year to get a hotel especially when you need a downtown hotel.  I have to use an ECV because of bad knees so shuttle are not an option for me.   It's a stressful time trying to get a hotel.  I've been checking since last July.   If I wanted to spend $1000 a night I could get one booked, but I work at a school and spending that much is a pipe dream.
