See I don't understand. How can you get in so fast and get none of your picks? There were so many spots that didn't even get named in the first waved

Lady friend got in 2 mins or so, just got our #6 hotel. It's going on the Exchange/Giveaways shortly since I already got our top choice, so no need for this. I hope someone will be interested!

I wonder if the room types may have anything to do with the way these are assigned?

Could be. I'd be interested to see what the top 6 were of those who were in the form quickly but did not get a hotel in their top 6.

Maybe.  last year, we made the mistake of asking for 2 people/2 beds and despite getting in early got mission valley.

I was in the form at around a minute thirty and got the Intercontinental(Not in Top 6) on the first wave where I had MGH top choice. It makes me mad that seeing people get MGH on the second wave with times after that...Ugh

Woohoo, Got into Wyndham San Diego Bayside. Live there last year... I enjoy it.
Needed 2 rooms for me wife and the mother in law and the baby.
Didn't want to live too close to the convention because it might scare the baby.

Oh i had it as my first choice.. got in around 9:02

It is probably people who returned their MGH reservation from the first round.  There's no way to control for that given so many people are buying in groups and ordering more rooms than they need.  Not everyone participates in the hotel exchange.

The only way to prevent it would be for OnPeak to institute some sort of preventative measure to prevent people from getting hotels they don't need.  I don't know what that could be, though.

I've said it before, but we need to account for how many people in the room/type of room requested before jumping to conclusions.  I always ask for two people/one bed and whatever access time I have (slow or fast) matches with the majority.  The hotel rooms aren't configurable to whatever you request.  They have a certain amount of 2 bed rooms, a certain number of one bed rooms, and a certain number of suites.  I strongly suspect that most people who get in early but have more specific bed requests end up with a worse choice because there are less of those rooms and more competition.  If you just look at the Hotel Asking Google Sheet there's only a handful of people who are okay with or specifically only want one bed.

The other factor is duplicates.  We know they can go with the later time if you have duplicate requests.  It's very possible that while you may have filled your form out correctly, your roommate/family member or whoever did not and included duplicate info.

This has happened every year since OnPeak took over:  People who were granted access to the form immediately, or very early (first minute) don't get their top choices - but someone posts that they got in quite a bit later gets the same hotel the earlier people asked for as a top pick, but didn't get. Twice I've been a victim of this. I can't explain it.
