WonderCon in Halls A & B + Arena = Massive Growth
« on: January 16, 2013, 02:04:42 PM »
It seems that lots of news is starting to come out about WonderCon 2013, and I think the biggest news is that this year WonderCon will be held in Halls A and B. Two huge exhibit halls (Just like SDCC). This is a seemingly massive growth from last years event which took place only in Hall D. This isn't just an exhibit hall expansion though but it opens the ability to use the Arena venue (which is directly connected to Hall A) for the large studio presentations similar to what Disney did at their D23 event last year. It seems that the move to Anaheim may have been more than just a lack of communication and poor dates. They are really trying to make this event thrive in SoCal.

EDIT: I just went on the calendar of events and they ARE using the Arena Venue this year.

"Venue: Arena, Halls A & B, Ballrooms, Rooms 201-213, Rooms 303 & 304 "

This is a whole new beast my friends.

Was it only one exhibit hall last year?  For some reason I thought it was two, but my brain could be failing me.

More convention space is great in giving us more stuff to see and allow for more attendance.

It was only in 1 hall, Hall D does have an area that housed the artists and special guests which could have seemed like 2 exhibit halls.

If they go with the same floor plan like D23 did in 2011, then it will be huge. If they do go with the D23 floor plan hopefully they will use the arena. Saw several panels during D23 and i didn't think there was a bad seat in the place. D23 was still kind of spread out with not alot of display/vendors.

Past couple of weeks, the Orange County Register, has had a couple articles about the growth of the convention center and how they were bring several large conventions to OC. They mostly talked about the NAMM show, but said several large conventions will be coming to Anaheim. they also said they are going to be starting a huge expansion/remodel for the convention center this year.  I've lived in OC my entire life and have never heard so much talk about the convention center. It was always kind of a dump with the regular home and garden shows. Wizard World had a con there two years and was kind of a flop. The only other regular cons there is D23 (every two years) and NAMM show.

I'll have to look at my program tonight to remind myself.  Maybe I'm forgetting things because I forgot to take my medicine (like Marv.)   :o

The Anaheim Convention Center's website does list the Arena as one of the venues being used for WonderCon. For those who are not familiar with the Anaheim Convention Center, The Arena basically dwarfs Hall H with 9,000 seats depending on how they orient it.

I read on the WonderCon Masquerade entry form that the Masquerade may be held in the Arena.  Might be worth a looksie!  :D

Needless to say, it's going to be huge this year. And i have feeling its going to be a test run for a possible move in 2016 ( or whenever the contract with San Diego is up).

It was only one hall, but IIRC< there was a big section 'around a corner' so it seemed like 2 rooms.
