I didn't realize until recently that this forum has a rule against double posts. Wouldn't the easiest thing for everyone involved be to turn on the auto double post merge mod? Then there wouldn't be double posts and posters wouldn't have to worry about it. The forum software would take care of it automatically.

I have had internal debates abou this one.
on the forums that have allowed nested posts, things seem to get a little convoluted.
but ... i'm open to considering it.
what do others think ?
the next post is what it would look like

and here's a triple nested post

So...successive posts by the same person are shown as "quoted" but the post goes through?

oh wait...automerge LOL, my bad sorry
the smf software doesn't have that capability- I would love to move to more robust forum software but getting the backends to line up is a pia

no, we're talking two different things
one is nested posts
the other is auto merge.
auto merge is not possible with this software. nested posts is
obviously double posting in this thread is ok :P >:D 8) :D

FWIW, nested posts are harder to read in Tapatalk bc everything is so small.

SMF natively does not, but there's a mod for that. ;) It's been around for about 10 years so it should be fairly stable.

I'm not a fan of nested posts either. I'm not suggesting that. I'm suggesting doing automatically what the rules of the forum say we should do manually. Concatenate consecutive posts from the same user. Look at the link I posted above or what it would look like.

unfortunitly, that mod is unsupported and over 10 years old. iow, it was built for 2.0 smf- we're currently on 2.0.15. Yes, i could emulate but that never seems to work for long-

Adding to @alyssa's post, to be honest, I looked into automerging posts with the same mod that @chocolateshake suggested above and discussed it with alyssa a long, long while ago, but it wasn't compatible with the forum software at the time either, which is why we ended up deciding not to try to implement it. It would be helpful though, ha ha. ^__^;;;
