What tips, tricks and fun stories do you have about getting into parties at SDCC? What advice can you give others who are hoping to get into some exclusive parties in 2017?
Here's a crazy story that happened to my friend:
I was tired and my feet hurt sooo bad (do not wear NEW shoes to SDCC...yeah I know I was dumb) so I went to bed early one night. My friend who I was rooming with was new to SDCC and was just going to stay with me but I begged her to please just go out and explore because you never know what fun will happen. She agreed and went out, and I went to bed.
The next morning she tells me she got into the invite-only exclusive Walking Dead party. This was 2013 so I think it was in one of those parking lots in the Gaslamp. How the hell did that happen I asked??? Easy. She said that a few people were hanging out by the metal barricades. There was security there keeping an eye on things. When one of the guards was distracted she squeezed through 2 of the barricades and walked in like she was supposed to be there. No one said anything and she had a great time.
Not advocating sneaking into parties. Not saying anything like this will ever happen again. She just went for it!
Anyone else have any fun stories like that?

So jealous your friend getting in to the Walking Dead party.
We didn't get to go to a private Industry party but one year my girlfriend, sister and I were walking around the Gaslamp. I was looking for a Tattoo parlor that was featuring Star Wars tattoo art. We found the parlor but what I didn't realize is it was a private party, invite only and obviously we didn't have an invite. They even had a velvet rope in front of the door. We knocked anyway and asked if we could come in. The guy looked at all of us and said, sorry this is private. Then he noticed my girlfriend's leg, she has an awesome tattoo covering almost her entire lower right leg. He took a closer look at her tattoo and then said come on in! We felt really awkward because obviously everyone knew each other. They had homemade food and lots of beer. We had a great time and if anyone questioned us I just pointed at my girlfriend's leg.
That was one of those "ya never know" Gaslamp things!!

Did anyone hit the Geek n Sundry party? We really wanted to go but it was at capacity (it seemed like) the entire night.
How early were people lining up?

My biggest tip is to join Twitter if you haven't already, and subscribe to media outlets that you know attend SDCC. TV Networks (FX, Fox, CW, Cartoon Network, etc), gaming companies (EA, Treyarch, etc.), studios (Sony, Fox, WB, etc.), pop culture media (IMDB, EW, Screenjunkies, etc.). Do your research, look up who has had exclusive parties in the past and keep up to date with their SDCC news from Spring to the beginning of July. Besides my personal connections this is how I get to attend a lot of exclusive parties with that good ole' open bar. Twitter is key.

Twitter is key.
I have a love hate relationship with Twitter. I know it is super useful but i get so overwhelmed by the amount of posts during comic con.

True, but it's best for last minute changes, contests, parties, etc. During SDCC week I know what you mean. I'm always tempted to turn off my notifications.

Good tip.
Also a good tip if you get inside - don't crowd up on the celebs with selfies and such. My advice is to Relax and say hi. Most will be chill and have a quick chat. Enjoy the experience.

Love the tip. Will definitely have to redownload Twitter and use it to my advantage.
My tip would have to be is whatever that party you go, dress up a little because you might be mistaken for a VIP and get to reap the benefits of it, especially if you act like you belong there and follow DRWHO42's tip on staying relaxed and don't crowd up on the celebs.

We were going to go (having gone the previous year) but the line was outrageous, even super early! Then they cut off entrance to "regular" people and only allowed celebs/VIPs in. I heard it left a bad taste in people's mouths.

How early were you? I remember hearing the party was awesome in 2015 so thats why we wanted to check it out. If its going to be like that again maybe we shouldn't bother.

I get some invitations through work. I work at an ad agency who represents some of the Comic Con exhibitors and works with others.
Even if you do score an invitation, make sure you don't arrive "fashionably late". The Geek and Sundry party was one of many that was "over-invited". I managed to get in through a kind security guard at the VIP entrance. I don't know if it was because of my type of invitation, though.
At another party I attended--Syfy's Magicians party--some invited people came late and couldn't get in because it was at capacity. But, I came on time and got in. The party was fun. I talked to a few of the stars and they were nice. I don't ask for selfies. I just like to talk for a few seconds and they like that.
A few years ago, I attended a BBC America party that had Dr. Who and Orphan Black stars. So many people just go up to them, ask for a picture, get the picture, and leave with nothing to say. I'm sure the actors feel like props after a while. My friend would go up and say, "I don't want a picture, I just wanted to tell you...[insert conversation here]". Some of the actors were so grateful for not being a photo prop, they didn't want to let her go.
So, that's my advice if you do have an encounter with a celebrity at a party. Talk to them. Don't treat them like a prop for a selfie. A nice conversation with someone is more memorable than standing there for a picture. You don't actually need a trophy. Conversations are better. Act like a VIP, not a fanboy or fangirl.

There was a big party at the Hard Rock last year that many of us here got passes to, however they also vastly oversold and many of us ended up being locked out just prior to the start time. Definitely a bummer, it would have been worth waiting out early for but we were at a panel. What bugged me about it, is they had us wait in a line outside for over an hour before we got wind that they were likely not going to let anyone else in after all.

This is really, really excellent advice. Basically, know your surroundings. A con may be a place for selfies/photo ops/autographs, but a party is definitely not. After all, parties are places for everyone to unwind - celebrities included!

I had that experience with that one too. But, I came late also and didn't stay long.

Last year, my friend and I were outside of the hotel past midnight after being out and about since 5am. We were exhausted and just going to smoke a cigarette (yeah, yeah, I know) before bed. There was this woman also smoking and she seemed sad, so my friend started talking to her. Turned out she wasn't sad, just tired like us, and she worked for BBC Worldwide (or maybe BBC America?). Anyway, she was working herself up to go to the Nerd HQ VIP party. They had ordered a car to take her there (we were at the Hilton Gaslamp), but she didn't want to go. She then spent the 15 minutes before the car arrived trying to convince my friend and I to use her passes and go in her place. It seemed like she was expected to "make an appearance" and she wanted it to seem like her passes were used. She even offered to let us take the car that was coming when we said it was really far away. My friend and I, at that point, were so tired and grubby from the day that we said no. If only we had known beforehand! We would have been showered and refreshed and ready! Ah well. Still a funny story to look back on. Only at Comic Con would you fall backwards into a VIP party invite.

That was really nice of her to offer. They probably wouldn't have let you in, but who knows. But, if you were able to get in, you would have been surrounded by a gazillion actors, writers, producers, etc. We were invited and it was so much fun!! Matt Smith was a blast!!! He grabbed us onto the dance floor and then later he got Kass a drink because he was taking forever at the bar. Hobnobbed with peeps from TWD, Agents of Shield, as well as Stephen Amell, Nathan Fillion, some guy from Teen Wolf Paris was howling over, Seth Green and naturally our friends bestie, Zac. We were chatting with a guy that was on my friends show and his boyfriend was just standing there so I started chatting with him. Super nice guy, talking about random stuff and then he said he's going to go to Hall H tomorrow (which would have been Saturday). I laughed and said "Not if you aren't in that line right now!" He said he's going to be escorted in. "Oh you have connections?" He said "Oh, I'm ON the panel." Say what? "I'm on a TV show called Orphan Black." I've never seen the show at that time and figured he was someone that was on a few episodes and gets killed or something. Surprise!! It's actually a main character. So Jordan Gavaris is our new pal, who plays Felix.
We didn't take any photos except one, Paris took one with Zac....but that didn't really count because he's Zac and loves his photo taken. haha
My friends sneak into the Hard Rock party upstairs every year.
On Sunday, there's an annual party with comic artists, writers, some actors, etc. It was so weird to see Q from Impractical Jokers walk in and hug and kiss the people throwing the party. Come to find out, he used to work for them! That's the night Kass turned 18 at midnight, Q said "let's go to a strip joint!" I said Paris is too young. "Ahh, she's cute, they will let her in without carding her." ha After midnight, he said he's too tired and needs to go to sleep. But, we get to go to their show when they come back out!

One of my favorite Comic-Con events was the Dethklok concert/party on the USS Midway. There was limited (free) admission and I got a couple of passes because I was happened to see an update ASAP about info, jumped on it, and got passes. There was a semi-open bar (IIRC we got two or three free drinks, and then it was a cash bar?), fun [adult swim] Metalocalypse-related stuff, and an incredible concert: great metal music, TONS of comedy via video and an extended cameo by Rockso. After that an awesome DJ spun a set at an after-party. Really incredible night, and very fun.
A few years in a row I got into the LA Times party. It was on the roof of a hotel. One year, the summer of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, it was sponsored by Marvel, so there were TONS of marvel comic people there, as well as studio people. There was a 100% open bar, free food, and some cool swag (I remember one was an iPhone case that looked like the GotG Awesme Mix vol 1 tape). Michael Rooker stopped by later in the evening and chatted with fans and was very cool.
That was another event where I saw the notifications ASAP and jumped on it: on Twitter.
I'm a HS music teacher, so my summers are fairly laid back and I have time to waste on the computer. I haven't gone to any big parties in a few years, mostly because my now-teenage son goes with me to just about everything. A lot of the parties are adult-only.

Really jealous of these stories, folks! The best we did was go to the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund party last year. We lucked out because we were staying at the same hotel and we had a babysitter, so we were able to leave our sleeping toddler for the night and go upstairs! Sadly, not much went on and we called it an early night. :(

The year I was hanging out with Rooker at the LA Times party, we were talking babies (he had his baby sleeping in the hotel, and my wife was due to have our 2nd baby any moment). That LA Times a few years back was the last 'big' party I went to since I've had the baby (my wife didn't go into labor until the week after Comic-Con, and had the baby just before midnight of GotG's opening Friday - we had the baby around 11:20ish Thursday night & my older son + I say GotG in theaters Friday am before heading back to the hospital)

The SlamCon party thrown by Todd Stashwick, Brea Grant, Dennis Calero, and Deric Hughes(writer/producer of Arrow, BATB & Warehouse 13) is pretty cool. Open to the public. They haven't announced anything yet but they've had them the past six years on Saturday night (locations vary). There are occasional celeb sightings (other than the hosts); I've seen Chris Hardwick, Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles & Misha Collins there (Jared, Jensen & Misha took pics with fans). I met TWD composer Bear McCreary there once. I heard Jamie Bamber was there one year, but I didn't see him.

This year I'm on the look out for a party to get my dance and drink on.
Somewhere that plays good music and the dancefloor is busy, not just a posers location.
Any recommendations for ones to shake my ass at? 😁

I wish so much to have any of these stories and experiences. Unfortunately not only am I not that lucky to be invited in but being the type of person who is horribly shy and keeps to self (in fact almost every vacation is just me) so getting connections to anything is rare as well.

I can relate since I have really bad social anxiety. I would feel so out of place at one of these parties. :-\

Honestly, I think the reason I was let into the Geek & Sundry party last year after they weren't letting people in is that I looked harmless.
They don't really want to let people into VIP parties who are going to bother the VIP's. Shy is good.

Yes last year was the first one, it was at Moonshine Flats on Thursday night. They announced the free RSVP on their Twitter.

You're among friends! I'm socially awkward and say stupid unfiltered things when put in social situations. Therefore, I tend to keep my mouth shut and keep to myself. Introverts unite!

That reminded me of something. One year when I was staying at the Solamar, I had read about a party being held for bloggers that was at the pool. I think I saw it listed in Hollywood Reporter. I didn't know if it was invitation-only and I strode right in through the entrance from the hotel side--not the entrance to the special pool elevator that most people were arriving through. If anyone was checking for invitations, I didn't see them. I just strode up to the bar and ordered a drink (complimentary).
It wasn't until later that I thought "maybe I wasn't supposed to be there.", but who knows.
But, most parties I've experienced since then DO have stricter security. When there was a Weezer concert for the Walking Dead a few years ago, I received wristbands for myself and guest.

add "and not star-gazing/asking for autographs, etc." I snuck (or 'sneaked?' any English major/teachers out there?) into a Planet Hollywood party one year. As I sat at the bar taking it in, the bartender called me out for not having the proper wristband. I kind of nonchalantly said, "oh yeah" and she said as long as I don't annoy anyone I'd be OK.
I've always personally been really weird about celebrities: there are very few that I would 'bother' in public. I know they're people too and want to relax w/out having to schmooze with fans, or be on their best behavior so I typically let them be. I think if the general public plays it really cool in party situations they'll be unnoticed and won't run into trouble (if they sneaked/snuck in by acting they belong there)
-
I remember last year I won an invite to the Nerdist Power Rangers Movie Party hosted at Petco Park. The Power Rangers Movie Twitter posted a tweet and those that responded were entered into the drawing for an invite and I got selected. The party was pretty fun. Free drinks and food, and I managed to see the iZombie cast there along with some Nerdist and Geek and Sundry folks.
Not sure if something similar will occur this year but it never hurts to follow certain popular Twitter accounts during SDCC.

Actually I don't find that strange at all. Or else I'm similarly strange ;)
One of my first jobs was working at UCLA basketball games and I saw soooo many entertainers, athletes, sports legends (Magic, Bill Walton, John Wooden who was a regular of course) but never bothered any of them especially since I was of the mindset that it isn't what Coach Wooden would want. I guess since then, anytime I come across a famous person out and about in Los Angeles, I never bother them at all.
As for SDCC specifically, I remember seeing Chloe Bennet and her party walking rapidly into the exhibit hall during the closing calls and I just figured they were in a hurry to purchase something before the 10 minutes were up.
-
I've never been to a SDCC party. I can't barely move by the end of the day. More hardcore stuff in this thread too. :)
-
I've yet to attend any SDCC party. I always have great intentions to try and go, but then am exhausted after the days end. I'm going solo this year, so maybe I'll be more adventurous and see what I can see. It would be fun if the situation is right!

At my last Comic Con (2014) I got into 2 Geek and Sundry parties, including an awesome Magic the Gathering one. I had to leave the first one not long after finally getting in to queue at Hall H. I checked my twitter and saw the line was already behind the center at 11pm. I had a goal to see Walking Dead and GOT. The second night I went with people I met sleeping for Hall H and we got in fast. I don't remember how early we got there but there wasn't much of a wait. I nearly met Felicia, she was dancing with a group next to me. Before I could say anything to her a group of guys literally tossed me out of the way. It was rude and obnoxious and Felicia went back to VIP right after that. Please stay relaxed around the celebs people!
I also was 3 away from getting into a Walking Dead party too, but I have back luck with cutoffs. Only waited an hour to be rejected though so not too bad.
Finally going again this year so I hope to get into some more of these! Thanks for the Twitter account suggestions!

Anyone have any tips on how to get into the Wire Cafe Party?

I'm curious about the Syfy party at Solamar? Any thoughts on getting into this one.

I've been invited and, honestly, you have to have a business relationship with Syfy. They hand out wristbands to invited guests and the guards check pretty carefully. There are only two entrances to it and it's well-guarded.
I know some invited guests couldn't get in last year because it was over capacity.
I love the party, though, and hope I can swing an invitation this year.

Yep, went to Magicians last year and the Haven one in the past, and can second that they like to keep it intimate and mostly to folks with business ties to SyFy.

I just want to meet the women of the magicians cast. Not to fanboy out, mostly just to hit on em 🤣

Yeah j did that one last year. Was probably one of the first 30 in line. Was really unorganized at first. Me and my buddies made sure we hit the open bar fast before it got busy haha.

I RSVP'd for that one. Went there around opening time, very long line, waited about 15 minutes but the line didn't move a smidge. So I left and walked right into Nerd Nite where they had free dinner and an open bar.

An event put on by National Geographic (or I guess NatGeo now)! Honestly, I found the presentations not that engaging, but it was a nice relaxing way to end the night.

I've been invited and, honestly, you have to have a business relationship with Syfy.
Nice! Sadly, I don't think having Syfy as part of my TV package counts as a business relationship. Guess I'll have to wish and watch this party from afar.

You could call yourself a "Freelance Television Show Reviewer"...that sounds quite business-y...

How did you guys get into that one? I was at the Hard Rock, staring longingly from my room window...
Twitter, and being fast because a lot of things closed insanely quick.

Assuming Syfy is still in the Solamar--and you stay in the Solamar--you will see many of their actors on the elevators.

Well, I know where I'll be spending my nights ;)
-
I have a feeling the hotel to check out this year for celebs and parties is the new Pendry. The place is completely booked with non-attendees.
-

I've seen the Vikings cast at Indigo for the last several years. The patio bar is small, comfy and inviting and because of it's location its not a place where they will draw an overwhelming crowd if they talk to fans. The night before their panel the cast just randomly hung out at the upstairs bar chatting it up with everyone. Then last year, after their panel, it was a private event closed off from the rest of the patio followed by more fun at Water Grill afterward. Great group and very friendly with the fans. Travis Fimmel gave me a high five that was so hard my hand hurt for the next 10 minutes. I hope they go back to Indigo again this year.
-
You're among friends! I'm socially awkward and say stupid unfiltered things when put in social situations. Therefore, I tend to keep my mouth shut and keep to myself. Introverts unite!
I am an introvert as well. I go out of my way to avoid people. :(
But I do feel like I'm missing out. Just feel socially awkward.
However, I would love to somehow get into one of these parties. These stories are awesome and I want to have some of these adventures too.
-
I've yet to attend any SDCC party. I always have great intentions to try and go, but then am exhausted after the days end. I'm going solo this year, so maybe I'll be more adventurous and see what I can see. It would be fun if the situation is right!

Besides twitter, any other good sites to look for parties happening in the gaslamp during comic con? We went to a Mars party last year that was awesome, and it was free with alcoholic drinks and food. That was a huge highlight from last year.

There's a party list that appears in the Hollywood Reporter just before the con. It's mostly industry parties, but a few open parties slip into the list.

Has anyone ever attended the Digital LA party? I always plan on going and something seems to always come up, curious if I should make a point to attend this year. Bonus is it's free!

Been pondering what is brewing at The Pendry. It looks fairly swanky and perfect for an 'in crowd'.

I can confirm this as I stayed at Indigo last year - they were chill but obviously still wore hats + sunglasses - I only noticed them because of the long beard (and the hats and sunglasses)

I wanted to go as well, but didn't! It looks like it's one of those "Free to RSVP" but no guaranteed admittance...so I'm guessing as long as you line up in time, you could make it in?
-
I'm hoping to attend a party this year. I usually can be found camping out or sleeping come nighttime, oh, I hate getting old :-[ But I will try and find a party and attend.
-
How do we get into parties?
Just tried to get in the Funko one and that was a fail even though I clicked a few seconds after the link went live.

Being a free event I'd definitely get there early and actually have meant to stop by the last 2 years but had other things come up, just weird I don't think I've ever seen someone talk about attending so curious if it's any fun!
-
I'm contemplating asking for a pool side room at Hard Rock, we check in on Tuesday early...so I'm hoping it may improve our odds of one being available....
-
For anyone staying at the hard rock...if you request a room facing the courtyard area on that floor, your patio open up to the private parties going on. There is not a way for the hotel to stop you from going out and mingling with the guests. Obviously they could scan for wristbands, but it is usually packed to the gills and that seems like a non issue. The hard rock parties are really the top shelf parties that pack in the more a list celebrities in many cases. I will issue one word of caution with this strategy....it is LOUD AS HELL the entire duration of these parties and they stretch into the 2-3am time period with howling drinks and breaking beer bottles all night long. So, this is not for the easily annoyed. Good Luck!
We stayed at the Hard Rock last year, and our room overlooked the parties, but it was only a studio room so our window did not open. This year, we got a suite, so I am going to request the pool floor with the patio that opens up to the parties, in hopes of joining the fun.

Fantastic tip - thanks for sharing! My group had Hard Rock last year, and I was wondering about the rooms on the pool floor. And since our group has the Hard Rock again, we may try this at check in ;)
-
Like I said, it might be fun if the party is something you are interested in...but a complete nightmare if noise is a trigger for you.
Have fun!
-
I stayed at the hard rock for 2 years in a row, and never got into the party. Last year I stayed further away and got into the party. No idea how it worked, but quick RSVP is key and getting there early is honestly worth it!

I'm going to ask my group if they want to try this or if they want their sleep, LOL. I think I will order some earplugs either way, just in case.

I would just love to get into one high-end party just once...that'd be cool hobknobbing w/those folk.
-
Been looking into the pool access rooms at Hard Rock, from what I can tell so far these are special rooms and not standard ones. They are called "Float Studio" rooms and they have one Queen bed in them. I'm not sure if you can transfer your reservation of a different type of room to this or not, but I am asking.

I bring dressy clothes every year just in case :-X So far I've only gotten into 1 party that I donated to a kickstarter to get into and it was pretty awesome, the next morning I saw on Twitter that Matt Smith and George RR Martin were there and I totally missed them!

Oh yeah I always bring a dress or two that I can wear out - even just out to dinner or a party because we have friends who throw a party every year, etc so you never know :D we're hoping for a few parties this year tho so definitely coming prepared

I think we should all get together and crash one ;)

While you all are out dressed up partying, I will be in my bed rubbing on the aspercream and eating ibuprofen. Which is my tip. Party in your bed with anti-inflammatories and anagelsics.

I went to it for a brief ibuprofen is certainly the tip to live by during SDCC - along with multi-vitamins.

The lower tickets are $20 though. We got some and we're gunna see if it's fun!
-
I like Wynonna Earp but not enough to pay $250 for a ticket to a party. I think it would be better if they just sold all the tickets for a lower price since there are under 300 spots.
Ah well, such is SDCC.

I wasn't sure what you were referring to and then I realized it was for a donation to their Indiegogo campaign, unless there is some other thing going on. Technically, the $250 isn't just for the party, but includes other items given at lower donation levels.
I guess the real test on the pricing will be how many people pay it.

If it included a plus 1 I'd jump on it! The way it looked the other day was that 50 tickets were allocated for the Indiegogo campaign was kind cloudy on how the other 150 were gonna be given out

What night is the wynonna party on?
-
A friend of mine got the $750 donation tier. I'm sure she'll have fun and I can't begrudge her because I just dropped $500 on photo ops at a different convention. And that's literally less than 5 seconds for each op (three total) so honestly she sort of spent her money more wisely.
BUT I GET TO BE SQUISHED BETWEEN MISHA COLLINS AND JENSEN ACKLES. So you know, best 5 seconds of my life. (Even if I no longer watch the show because damn guys)

I've never watched Winona so no interest but I like the idea of higher priced small batch intros to parties. I'd pay 250 for entry to the sci-fi party.

True confession: when they did the Nerd HQ crowdfunding, I was hoping for perks and a funding level that could get you into their invitation-only celeb party. I was sorely disappointed when the page went up and there were no perks. So, bravo to the Wynonna Indiegogo for at least given fans the option. Whether people take them up on it, is their choice.

I did something very similar. A couple of years ago, I saw Tatiana Maslany walking my way. A couple of people asked for selfies in front of me. When she got to me and leaned in for a selfie, I held up my hand and said "Please, no selfies." Instead I put out my hand for a handshake and said something like "You do a great job." She gave me a little smile.

Sorry to butt in on the convo but im just curious, for those that attended Fandom comic con party last year, did you spot any celebs? I went and i didnt see anyone i recognized, but i had a great time AFTER standing in the heat for 2 hours :P
I loved the face masks and beads they passed out at the door, and free drinks is always good. Im an introvert and not much of a partier but it felt good to be out and about and i was with a friend (which helps with my anxiety). But that friend wont be coming this year, so i may try to attend a party solo this year (gulp) :(

Parties w/open bars or free drink tickets = the best parties to attend for us introverts ;)
(assuming one is 21+ of course)

So far I have two-ish parties planned.
There's apparently a Tron dance party that Friday. It's not a ticketed event and I haven't seen it talked about much, so hopefully it'll be easy to walk in.
I also apparently reserved a ticket for an event called "Digital LA" for that Saturday but I don't recall doing this. But all reservations I make get auto uploaded to my trip it app so when I opened it today I'm like "uhhh?? Guess I snagged a ticket a few months ago before I began planning things??" Suppose I should research this party I apparently RSVP'd to.
I don't know if HopCon counts as a party. More like beer tasting. But that's another evening I'll be busy.
So far Thursday night is the only thing I don't have anything tentatively planned but since that's the night after a B20 campout and the night before an early morning Conan line up, that's probably a good idea. None of the parties I have planned are "exclusive" but eh, it is what it is. So far the two non-HopCon parties I have planned are events I'm going to solo. So if you plan on going to either of these give me a shoutout and we can be buddies â¤ï¸
Edit: There are also the SyFy parties at the New Children's Museum on Thursday and Saturday. If this Digital LA thing isn't so good I might go over to that instead. New Children's museum is HUGE so hopefully that'll be a walk in too. I just don't want to wait in line for hours.

The Children's Museum isn't THAT big. I was shut out of their Saturday party in the past. Waited outside for an hour and gave up. They may have more space because it won't have the Nerd HQ exhibits in there, but I can imagine it not being a "walk-in". Their "book an event" brochure says they can accomodate about 1000 people. That sounds about right.

I didn't have problems on Thursday and it made me confident Saturday would be the same and, then, WAM!. Line around the corner.

Yeah and just an FYI if you've never been to Blondie, it's a pretty small venue [It's where they host emo nights every month so I every other month or so].
There isn't a lot of space for a ton of people (they have a bank of booths on the right that cant be removed), so I don't know how many people will be at the Tron thing (I'm interested myself as a giant tron fan) but just know the place is small--you can see pics of it online. It's normally a dive bar but one that I like.

Yes, that would be interesting. I always got the impression was Zac's party was a way for him to invite his celebrity friends to let loose in private. Syfy's party is a mix of their executives, talent that has been shipped in for panels, and a little press. Different vibes for sure.

I'm supposed to get an invitation to the Wired Cafe, which I enjoy because you can just show up, get free food and drink, and stay as long as you like. I didn't go nuts this year going for a lot of parties because I did last year and it was too much. I missed having quiet dinners with friends.
Got only only other and I'm waiting to hear on a 3rd.

This year I have parties Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. I'm honestly asking, if I shall regret that? Based on your post. I've never done 3 during one Comic-Con.

How's your liver feeling?? How old are you??
I'm going to go with, you only live once, so why not. You can sleep the week after!

Well if he decides 3 days are just too much, then I can be YOUR plus 1. haha ;)

How do you get a Wired invite?
Contact someone you know who does business with Wired.

Too many factors to consider:
- Long line to get in vs. no line
- Time party starts and ends
- Crowdedness and noise levels (loud crowded parties are more taxing)
- Options for sitting down

Got my Wired confirmation! I am happy it's for 3 days. This is the party I enjoy each year I've gone.
The holy grail party for me is the EW party - trying to crack the lock on that one.

I tried a few times for EW and gave up. I don't even think of the Wired Cafe as a party. It's more of a VIP lounge that you can hang out in. I do enjoy it as a place to hang when I have a break in between panels.
My holy grail has always been Zachary Levi's invitation-only party.

Got my Wired confirmation as well! I wonder if they'll do anything special for the 10 year anniversary?
Omg EW party is my holy grail as well! I actually accidentally just walked in one year (2010?). I was talking and walking and fangirling with Alexander Skarsgard and I wasn't paying attention to where we were going. We parted ways, I looked up and BAM, I was in the party. I was super lame and freaked out because I didn't know anybody and left before I even got to really check it out.
A few years ago we were staying at the Hard Rock and decided to try and sneak in to EW. We made it past 3 out of the 4 checkpoints before we were booted haha! It was a weird year where they shut the party down early. Apparently James McAvoy was sloppy drunk and fell and hurt himself. :(

OMG you guys I get to go drink with Aisha Tyler on Saturday! But I'm sorta freaked out because I have plans to be in Hall H most of the day. Anyone else going to it that has an idea WHEN it is?

Do you remember what the checkpoints involved or if you have an email of who's in charge of the EW party? I've asked everyone at work but all they know is either they're not going to SDCC or they have to FILM the party so they're working and I don't have a press pass so I don't think I can just saunter in even tho I work for them

There was a link to an RSVP page for the 2016 EW party I found just a month ago (via blog post):
http://laguestlist.com/event/entertainment-weekly-hosts-annual-comic-con-celebration/
Of course the link is now expired, but if it worked, man did I miss out. Must have filled out super quick.
On the upside I'm headed to the Alpha G&S/Nerdist party on Thursday.

I can tell you that the link did work...if you were in industry and approved to go to the party. I was not approved and promptly denied haha.

Probably so. I did not have credentials worthy of a press pass, which I think was what this rsvp was really for last year. I got the vibe that the link should not have been public, or that access to the link should have come with a caveat that explained what it was for.

There is, of course, actually getting into the Hard Rock (which was easy since we were staying there), and then getting up to the fourth floor (which we nailed by having a room on the fourth floor), then you had to get some sort of fluorescent hand stamp and then you had to get past the check in table. Ultimately, the check in table will be the downfall if your name isn't on the list. I had two different people try and pluck me from the check in table and bring me in with them, but it was a fail since they were shutting down the party early. One of these days........

There's no party recap thread, so I thought I'd post here.
Overall, I think I applied for too many parties because I ended up not doing a few. I have a friend with whom we like to have some quiet dinners and I still wanted to do those.
Wired Cafe: Because it is flexible when you can go and how long to stay, I did go all three days for about an hour each time. Two times, I had to get in a line. Once, I walked right in. I found the food to be a little skimpier this year. But, the booze was free-flowing. They also had a good brand selection on the booze. The whole thing promoted Mr. Mercedes, the new Audience show. I didn't have any sightings of celebrities I recognized.
Buzzfeed/CW Party: This was at the Altitude Lounge on a hotel rooftop. When I got there (a little late), there was a line to get in because it was at capacity. It took about an hour to get up there. It was merely OK. It doesn't take much to get to capacity because the rooftop is small. Booze and food were decent and the view was spectacular. We could see the Viking funeral from far away. They had a game to play for prizes. Someone else one a Roku. But, I just got an iTunes gift certificate and a t-shirt. I didn't see any celebs I recognized.
SYFY Fan Parties: Formerly known as NerdHQ. I went on Thursday and Saturday. Thursday was easier to get in. The line was so long on Saturday, I wasn't going to go in until I took a chance on asking at the VIP entrance. Turns out the person who invited me put me on a special list. It didn't get me upstairs to the special VIP area, but I got in the building.
I honestly enjoyed the Syfy version of this more than the Nerd HQ version. Because of the lack of installations that Nerd HQ used to have, there was much more room for the party. The three free beers was a plus. I actually wanted a regular drink and was willing to pay for it and got one without much of a line. The prices were reasonable. They were handing out soft pretzels. The 80's band on Thursday was fantastic. The 90's band on Saturday were OK, though I like 80's better.
Another thing I noticed less of was pushing and shoving on the dance floor. In previous years, there were a lot of Zac Levi fangirls jammed toward the front and any time Zac would come nearby, they'd push and shove to be the closest to him. I saw less of that. I didn't stay all night, but he came out less and I don't know if he came into the crowd at all. Definitely going to try to go to this if they have it next year.
Nerd Nite w/ National Geographic: LOVED this party. I showed up early, but it didn't seem overbooked if I hadn't. Nice crowd. Music was "background" rather than so loud you couldn't talk. Met some other fans and we could actually talk to each. Good food and great open bar.
There were two parties I didn't make it to and those were the Fandom Party and the Digital LA party. If anyone has a report on how they went, I'd be curious. Fandom overlapped with something else and dinner with my friend. I also wasn't confident I could even get in because I hadn't in 2016. So, I didn't make it. Digital LA was at the same time as Nerd Nite and I was enjoying that so much, I didn't want to leave.

More party recap:
Funanimation party was pretty lit surprisingly. If you signed up and all that 3 free drinks. They had a dragon ice sculpture that you could pour a shot through and catch it on the bottom with your mouth!!! Now that was cool af. They had a prize wheel going and a raffle (that I think ended up not happening because they ran out of tickets to give out??) Anime clips playing on the screen and alt rock throwback music lol. The food was pretty tasty sliders and such! Was great if you came with a cool group :) 10/10 absolutely would go again
Alpha Kraken Geek& Sundry was like kinda weird. Felt like they were trying to cater to both middle-aged nerds and young folks. (ie Fairly Odd Parents theme song with EDM beat and dropped the bass) The music was super cringey that not even the open(hosted) bar could make us stay. No food sadly. They did have cool activities like temp tats, photo booth, and strength contest and you got a cool shot glass for doing it all. 7/10 would not go alone though and would leave after getting alcohol LOL
Curious about the Dixie pig & digital LA!

I second your review on Nerd Nite-it was fantastic, as always! The food was replenished much faster than last year, and was great. The shrimp ceviche that they serve there is wonderful (was served by the waiters/waitresses walking around). I wish I had gone up to represent team Mars-I got almost all of the answers right in the trivia contest. Does anyone know if team Earth got something extra for winning? I got my swag bag with t-shirt and the first season of Mars on DVD, so I was happy.
The only down side was how long I stood at the bar before I got served (not a line situation, I was actually up at the bar). They kept waiting on people that had just walked up. I finally had to wave them down. They were also not very cheerful. I tipped them every time. Maybe others weren't?
Oh, and the Atomic Rocket drink? Yum! I know it was just Prosecco with a rocket pop in it, but they went so well together! The special craft cocktails were interesting (and strong).
How did the Fandom party go? I was so beat by Thursday evening, that I didn't go. Especially since DH couldn't go, I really didn't feel like going by myself. Was it hard to get in? The thought of standing in a line was not high on my list at that point (I did the Funko line in the morning).

I did get this from Digital LA with the location. It had been "TBD":
"Thanks for RSVPing for our annual Digital LA - Comic Cocktails! We are excited to announce that tonight's venue will be tonight July 22, 8-10p at the new Pendry Hotel at Nason's Beer Hall, enter on J St at 6th, just a few blocks north of the San Diego Convention Center.
Head to the back of the bar, past the free popcorn machine, to the game room with the Jenga, Ms. Pac Man and other video games, darts, and cornhole. We'll be there, and thruout the bar. No need to print tickets, you'll be on our guest list.
Catch up with friends you haven't seen yet on the show floor, make new friends with friendly Digital LA peeps and others from around the world. Trade notes on best panels, parties, and swag.
Cash bar for food and drinks on your own. Limited capacity. Being on our guest list does NOT guarantee entry in case it gets packed, so arrive early! Entry subject to dress code of Nason's.
See you tonite!"
To be honest, I coulda checked in, but I had already had a few free drinks at Nerd Nite and the "cash bar" was a dis-incentive to drink more.

How do you sign up for the nerd nite party??
I lucked out. I was checking Twitter and someone I follow (SDCC blog or someone else) posted a link to the RSVP. I did it at just the right time and got in. A few minutes later, it was full.
-
I went to Game of Bloggers, Wired, and the NBC parties. I did not make it to the Digital LA party due to a schedule conflict.
Overall I enjoyed both parties. I was happier that was back to three days and I hope it stays that way.
The author and cast of Midnight, Texas attended the NBC party.
I attended Wired Thursday and Friday however not Saturday. Lines were not long. In my time there I did see some celebrities some were in the General area and some retreated to the VIP section. There was a birthday cake and celebration for Jaime Chung (The Gifted). Everyone had cake.
I cannot wait until next year.

How do you sign up for the nerd nite party??
They tweet out the link, and you go really fast and sign up. They have used Tikly the past few years, and there is no physical ticket-you are just put on a guest list. Usually in the first couple of weeks in July (although they posted kind of last minute, this year). Put @nerdnite on twitter on mobile notification.
I did not get in, but a wonderful forum member gave me her email. FYI-I did tell them I was using someone else's email, and they let me in. They checked ID, but it was because of the alcohol involved, not to check against the guest list. This year, I am not sure you could just walk in later, as in previous years (last year, I had a ticket, but when I walked up, they just waved me in without checking it). There seemed to be people in line (a short line) when we came out.

Agree that Alpha/Kraken party was odd. We lined up about 20 minutes before it started, but they didn't let the non-VIP line in until about 45 minutes after the time, so we were in line for over an hour and it was already packed by the time we got in. We didn't even see the temporary tattoos or photo booth because there were so many people, and nowhere to sit unless you were a VIP. The hosted bar was nice and we liked the drinks but the music was super loud and we didn't really feel like dancing so we left after about half an hour to go get some food.

Thanks for the info, Angelogy :)
So I went to the Doctor Who Fan Cosplay party on Sat night, as a +1 to a kind stranger on this forum.
It was at the rooftop of the OmniA night club, and was swanky. There was a bathroom attendant. It was fun, not crowded, open bar. I did keep hoping the cast would come and they didn't :( But it was fun to hang out with whovians!
-
I attended Nerd Nite and it was pretty cool! There was a big group of guys behind me without tickets and they were let in as well (they asked to be put on waitlist)

Well, that's good. I had mentioned there was a chance in previous years of getting in without tickets. I was hoping I didn't steer anybody wrong. Nice to hear that there is still a chance. We went in when it opened, and they were checking everyone off against the guest list.
-
One comment about Nerd Nite... I signed up my husband and daughter to go. My daughter is 16. I checked on the RSVP page for age limitations and there were none listed. We checked the email confirmation and there were no age restrictions listed. But when they got to the door, they were told that it was 21+. Needless to say, my daughter was heartbroken. We were really frustrated by the entire thing because we had checked and checked and there had been nothing about the age limit. At least they let me husband get a second Swag bag for her.
Another friend of mine ( [member=1420]lborgia88[/member] ) went to the Buffy party. She said it was a lot of fun and that Claire Kramer showed up to cut the anniversary cake. But everyone was chased out right at 9 pm.
-
I got in to Fandom party thanks to a very kind boardmember here😊 party took place on the rooftop of the Hard Rock. Music was good, current, musical entertainment was rapper Big Boi who put on a great show. Free food (sliders, wings, and fajitas etc) and themed drinks, which i had way too many of, and adorable wookie cookies. I never saw any celebs, so im not sure if any were there or not. Poolside couches were set up for those who wanted to get away from the main stage. I met great ppl and had a good time. The only thing i missed was the masquerade masks they passed out last year. But no complaints from me. Id love to do it again next year😊

My group attended 4 free party events during SDCC this year; here’s my review!
Fandom Pepsi Party at Float
We got in line ~6:15pm and waited about an hour. There were photo ops, good food/desserts, and an open bar. There was a taco bar, mac n cheese, floats, Wookiee cookies, and churros. The drinks were plentiful in quantity and alcohol content. Big Boi performed and while I’m not a typical listener, it was really enjoyable. There was also an area with a giant lite bright, air hockey, ski ball, and a few other games. There were also a few celebrities. Highly recommend this party!
Rocketleague Second Birthday Party
The line was easy to go through and early birds got a swag bag with a poster, ball, and nice specific sized shirt. Food was good and you received 2 drink tickets, and birthday cake. There were 6 game stations and a DJ. I found the DJ music too loud.
Whiskey tasting with Aisha Tyler
This turned into a brief photo op with the insanely kind Aisha Tyler and a whiskey tasting. It was very quick but enjoyable nonetheless!
Doctor Who Party at Omnia
We waited a little over an hour for this one, though we could have arrived later. There was an open bar with strong themed drinks but no food - a tough combination! The Doctor Who cosplay fashion show was really fun and the crowd was into it. The DJ was excellent, and if we weren’t starving, we would have stayed longer.
Overall, Fandom was my favorite. It wasn’t over-crowded and a great way to kick off our con!

I was😊 but im not sure if that was due to the lady not wanting to be bothered asking someone else when she couldnt find my name listed, lol. i showed her my RSVP emails etc and she sorta kinda tried to flag down one of her busy beaver co-workers, when that didnt work, she basically gave up and handed us our wristbands😂

There was a giant lite brite at Fandom??! How did i not know this?? Damn those free drinks!! And what celebs were there? I basically just hung out by the pool. I shouldve been keeping an eye out for celebs. OH!! Also forgot to mention that there was face painting at Fandom as well

I guess I should give Fandom another shot. To the people who got in, were you VIP or regular tickets? Did you all get there before it started or after?

So I gave to ask as I have have never been to a comic con party. Are these parties like any other party with drinking and music or are they different?

So I gave to ask as I have have never been to a comic con party. Are these parties like any other party with drinking and music or are they different?
They're all basically like normal parties with drinking and music, but it varies by theme and venue. For instance the Nerd Nite party always has presentations from scientists and astronauts for part of the night, and the music is never overwhelming and there's not really a dance floor.
But the Kraken Alpha party was in a club, so it was wall-to-wall people and LOUD music.
In general you can get a feel for what the party will be like from the event page as well as what type of venue it's held at. Some are more cocktail receptions where you wander around and talk to people, and some are full-on club bangers. But pretty much all of them have drinking and music. :)

My boyfriend and I headed to the Doctor Who party late. We had to wait a whike for the elevators at Hard Rock because 2 out of 3 were for celebs who were heading to the EW party at Float. Next thing I know, the elevator doors open and out walk Capaldi, Michele Gomez, and Pearl Mackie! I was like, wellp, guess they're not going to the DW party :-(
The party itself, from what we experienced was fun. We missed the cosplay show, but the open bar was nice. Someone suggested the TARDIS drink and it was good. The Dalek was neat. The guy who built it did it in like, 3 weeks, which is amazing! The cosplay that we did get to see were good too. After DW Party closed, we went to the main floor while we finished our drinks before grabbing pizza and heading back.

The Gifted party took place at The Andaz, where I was staying.
I was going to blag my way in as it's easy to get to the rooftop if you stay there.
However, it turned out that none of the cast went to the party. They got there early, had a drinks reception in a media room and then left.

Yeah I was pretty bummed that the doctor who cast didn't show. But I guess it's Capaldi's and Moffet's last season and they just look done.

There was a giant lite brite at Fandom??! How did i not know this?? Damn those free drinks!! And what celebs were there? I basically just hung out by the pool. I shouldve been keeping an eye out for celebs. OH!! Also forgot to mention that there was face painting at Fandom as well

I missed the face painting! We saw Isaac Singleton and we missed him, but I saw on soc med that Tyler Posey was there too. We made MARIO at the lite bright.

Thanks for everyone so far who has provided feedback about the parties. It really helps prioritize what to seek out next year.

Awesome! My wife and I were there and saw the Mario. We were very impressed. Great job.

FYI- Capaldi had an eye injury. When he did the press room he wore dark sunglasses and was kind enough to explain to use his injury - he showed it to us as well. He did forge ahead with the panel without the sunglasses.

Sorry to hear that.
I was actually more excited about seeing Jodie Whittaker! Someone saw her at the Syfy party. But I guess she's keeping a low profile.

My SDCC17 Party review. (excuse the grammar as I'm multitasking on a call)
FM 949 Sharknado 5 Party at Sycuan Casino Thursday
I must have entered this contest and was lucky enough to be chosen. It was offsite at Sycuan Casino which, during rush hour, took about 45 mins from North Park. As the we had to be there at 6 I left the Con at 4:30, went home, then drove to Sycuan. Once we got there they informed us the party started at 7 so we gambled, lost, then went back, showed our wristbands and went to the party. The food was amazing. Everything food item was carved in the shape of a shark and they served seafood, sushi etc. Drinks weren't included but they were also shark themed. Met and got a photo with Ian Zeiring and Tara Reid as well as the director Anthony Ferrante who also spent time talking to us, great guy. The cast and director signed a few things as well. The FM 949 people were also a blast.
Conan on Friday
Not really a party but a great time.
Dragonball Z party Friday
No food and one free drink. They gave out a cool t.
Whiskey tasting with Aisha Tyler on Saturday
Got a photo up with Aisha Tyler and PLENTY of whiskey tasting. Ended up getting to know her publicist and Personal Assistant, great people, beautiful venue.
Nerd Nite at the Solamar
Simply amazing. The kind FOCC person who I traded to get Conan tickets needed an extra pass so I got him in as well. Security was helpful and very organized. While we didn't grab a swag bag I got to know the fantastic bar staff who created the Mars, frozen, and Earth drinks, so we had more than our fill there. The never ending food was as fantastic as the event. The party was supposed to go till 11pm then at 11 it was pushed till 11:45pm. We were able to grab seats in front by the pool so right in front of us were the floating bubble gymnasts and to have a 1st row view of the talks by the NASA scientists and astronauts, which were informative and entertaining. They stopped for photos, gave us a tshirt and were really nice to talk to. The glowing wrist bands, either Mars or Earth were a cool touch. The best party of my SDCC17.

Thanks for the reviews.
I'm definitely going to Nerd Nite next year.

Can i ask what time did you go to the nerdnite party? I wouldve gone, but i was at a panel that lasted til 7:30 and i figured that was too late to even try. What a missed opportunity...

Cool. Thanks. I'll probably never go to one, so I wanted to ask.

While we got there at 7, it's my understanding as long as you were on the list you had access at anytime.

I've been to the Solamar for other parties when it was at capacity and closed for new attendees and this never felt it was.

she tweeted out her email and basically first come first serve RSVP.

I went to the Fifth Element Party at The Lafayette, well it wasnt much of a party more like a very small art show with a couple fifth element inspired paintings, it was very disappointing. It was pretty embarrassing to going to the front desk to ask where the party was at and they had no idea of any party i had to look up the post about it from SDCC blog to show them but they hadnt heard anything about it. What a waste of time. Any tips on how to avoid fake parties? Hopefully this doesnt happen very often.

Fandom Party at Hard Rock Thursday night was possibly the highlight of this year. For starters, I didn't have tickets, but someone on here forwarded me his information as he had actually got his name on the list twice. So now how to get my group of 5 in with only one name on the list...Here is the trickery we pulled, there was 3 guys and 2 girls in our group and the name on the list we had was a guy. We walk up and there is 3 people checking in...so my goal was to have each guy walk up to seperate check in person and quietly say the name and get check ed in on each separate ipad. Which worked for me and one guy, then I realize my 3rd buddy didn't understand and just stood behind me so I had to improvise. I was like oh my name is on the list twice so he is my plus one...and that worked. So 3 of 5 were braceleted and ready to go. Now it was the ladies turn, the 3 of us guys walked up the stairs and stood by the red carpet, my wife walks up with her friend to check in and doesnt say a name and just sticks out her hand for a bracelet. They were confused, she pointed to us and said she was with us. Repeated the same check in name a few times and finally the workers were confused enough they just gave them bracelets and we were all in!
Open bar. Open Buffet. Great set by 1/2 Outkast. Only celeb I spotted was Orlando Jones, but still a great time.

I merged this topic with the existing thread "SDCC Parties: Tips, Tricks, & Fun Stories" as this is where past discussion of this topic has occurred. There is lots of good info here. :)

super excited about all of this great info

Thanks! Just followed them on twitter.
You don't have to do it now, but I would recommend setting up notifications from the account to go to your phone. If you don't want to get notifications now, you should start a few weeks before the con. That way, you'll know ASAP about the parties.

I agree to sign up for text alerts. If you are someone does not use twitter that often I would still check their account reguarly because text alerts are sometimes wonky. I would check and although I had the alerts on, I wasn't getting the notification even though there were new tweets. Could just be the twitter app being glitchy but it has happened to me several times.

Text alerts, like through twitter?

Text alerts, like through twitter?
Yes. I should have called them push notifications since they arent really a text. You go to the account you want alerts from and hit the notification button. It will then send you the tweets without having to actually go onto twitter.
-
You can get text alerts, too. I get actual text messages.

SyFy's Harry Potter Fan party at the New Children's Museum was amazing and the highlight of 2018 for me. Complimentary food included gorgeous (and really tasty) Golden Snitch cake pops, french fries wrapped in The Daily Prophet paper cones, pretzels and fresh fruit Popsicles. Most attendees received a house-themed t-shirt (Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff or Slytherin), although, I noticed that they quickly ran out. They also had collectible pins, a photo booth with Harry Potter props; and the opportunity to bob for mystery prizes. You can read more about it here: https://hiddenremote.com/2018/07/31/sdcc-syfys-harry-potter/
I hope that SyFy continues to sponsor these parties because they are real treat for fans - and completely free (Must RSVP ahead of time). Much better than the Ready Player One party that I attended (for a nominal fee).

Went to a rooftop party a few years back (can't remember the exact spot). We met Peter Capaldi -- he was staying in the hotel and had come up on the roof just to see what all the ruckus was about. Also chatted with Norman Reedus, who was incredibly nice to my wife. She was standing a few feet away from our group, clearly nervous about coming over, and when he noticed he smiled, waved at her and motioned her to come closer -- then gave her a hug. Super nice guy.

Anyone been to the Funimation party? Is it open to public, pre-sold tickets, advanced RSVP? I think it was Wednesday night last year which would be perfect this year since we don't have PN badges.

I have been past two years! It's advanced limited quantity RSVP but you need to be a subscriber for VIP otherwise the Gen line is crazy long(free trial works). They have appetizers and 1-3 drink tickets (if you do all the activities and sign up email stuff). Anime is on all screens and there's like no dancing but there is music. There are giveaways and spin the wheel stuff but tbh not the best prizes and not worth yet another line for the wheel. Some cute small activities like temporary tats and stuff. If you are a weeb, I recommend trying for them otherwise it's not very lit.

Went last year and it was alright. They had appetizers, drinks (I think everyone got 1 free drink ticket), freebies, and a photo booth. The music selection was pretty good (2000s throwbacks) but it was a bit too packed to actually dance. As a cosplayer, I was hoping to meet other people in cosplay (especially since I was cosplaying from MHA for the party) but everyone was mostly casual.

Do they email out a link to subscribers? Do you remember around when they opened up the RSVP to subscribers? I don't mind signing up for a month to get into the party and have something to do Wednesday night.

Last year my friends and I just walked up on a party that originally was not for just regular attendees, but then I guess it was too quiet with whatever Twitter promotion they did so the security outside said "Show us the tweet so you can come inside." and then none of us were aware of that, so then he just said "Thanks for showing us the tweet, come on in." Great unexpected party. :)

It was the Amazon Prime party for The Expanse :)

This is my first year going but we have a friend who is not allowed to go to parties without more than one friend. He gets swept up in the moment and gets too much to drink than starts losing shoes and socks. He said he went back to his hotel and woke up with only 1 sock and 1 shoe 😂

Has anyone attended a party or event at The Field? Out of towner is thinking of cool eating places at which to hold an event. I have eaten there a few times more than a couple years ago, and it was a good place. But for a party...no experience. Thanks!

I've been doing research on Gaslamp venues, and apparently FLUXX nightclub closed its doors sometime last year. One less venue for Comic-Con parties. :(
In related news, OMNIA nightclub was bought by Insomniac, the EDM promoter and festival organizer. Its new name is NOVA SD.

So far there aren't any events listed during Comic-Con dates.

Anything happening at the Solamar Hotel? I hear the syfy party usually happens there but wasn't sure this time around
