I'm looking forward to having Jason Ritter on my television again (The Gospel of Kevin)

Nice recap.

I have a lot of doubts about Gospel of Kevin.  Jason Ritter seems like a nice guy, but he has lousy luck with TV pilots.  This one doesn't look very good.

The Orville will have to be a lot funnier than the trailer to work.

Thanks and I agree with your points.

Nice write-up; very helpful in figuring out what shows to look forward to.

The trailer for Orville looks very funny; I thought it was a movie. Not sure it can keep the comedy going over multiple episodes. I did like Galaxy Quest, but it would have made a terrible tv show, IMO.

Thanks. I am intrigued to see how the series will be like midway through the season.

Saw the pilots for the Orville and the Gifted today. If you are a Seth McFarlane fan, the Orville should be entertaining.

I had mixed reactions to The Gifted. I thought they set up the story quite well, the older Mutants were quite interesting  and the two main kids did a good job. The problems were the attempts at brevity that seemed totally out of place, and Stephen Moyer's acting. It didn't help that I originally heard his name as Stryker (the villain of X2) rather than Strucker so immediately thought he was an anti Mutant crusader.

The Orville was a little better than I expected (my expectations were low, understanding that the best material would have been shown in the preview). But good enough that I will continue to watch it.

I enjoyed it too, but I am not sure what they are going for. It wasn't as spoofy as I expected. There were some really funny moments though. I will keep watching (probably on DVR though-it conflicts with Teen Wolf for a few more weeks)

We went to the panel at SDCC, and they said that they were trying for more than just comedy. Spoof comedy will get you for a few episodes, but they wanted to have an interesting ongoing plot as well.

as a Trek fan, what i like is that the characterization aren't the normal perfect people in STNG- i really like seeing folks who are struggling with normal human issues-

Definitely. That was one of the things that I noticed.
