OMG! I'm starting to loathe this forum.  ;D

I went ahead and made a reservation for 8 nights (against my better judgment, perhaps, but rationalized it be saying I could maybe use the other days to check out the Zoo and Sea World, and also maybe take in a Padres game next year if I end up coming back).

Anyone know if the hotel puts a credit hold for the $2000 against the credit card used for the reservation?

It depends on the individual hotel's policy for credit card holds.  The best thing would be to call the hotel directly and ask about it.  Sometimes, they don't require a hold, but they may ask for a "security deposit" of anywhere between $200 to $400 on the credit card to make sure that you actually check-in at the hotel, as well as to ensure that it is in fact a valid credit card that you are using for payment. (In the case that something goes wrong with the payment or you make a late cancellation, they take the amount of the "security deposit" from your account.)

All in all, it really varies between hotels, so I would recommend double-checking with your hotel of choice to get an accurate confirmation about it.

Hope that helps. ^_^d

Just checked the Manchester Grand for next year and the cheapest I saw was about 399.00 per night. This is why I like staying outside of downtown SD. This year we stayed at a best western in chula vista and rented a car. It's only about a 20 minute drive in and the place was very nice and quiet. Between 3 round trip flights, 2 rooms, a car for 7 days and parking we barely spent more than one room, for 8 nights, at one of the huge hotels would cost.

I have, for the third year straight, been able to secure a condo for the Tuesday through Tuesday of Comic-Con week. :D  It has become an annual treat to myself to be able to relax in a rental with at least two bedrooms, two baths, laundry, parking, and a full kitchen. I also enjoy no longer having the stress of trying to obtain my rooms through Travel Planners (2005-2010). ;) Best of luck to everyone in securing lodgings that suit their needs in 2013!

No idea. I don't want to call and change it for fear they might cancel my rate!

Yeh it says somewhere on the confirmation that if you change the duration or nights the pricing is subject to change.  Of course they know what they are doing ;)

I got a backup to the backup plan.  Secured lodging about 1-1.5 miles away from Convention Center.  Once I secure my Comic-Con badges (next month, hopefully), I'll open it up for one female roommate to share.

Damn looks like I should be looking for a hotel room NOW! Unless my roommates want to team up again.

Yep. Generally the earlier you can find a hotel room, the better.

Same here, but the rate is so cheap that it's worthwhile paying for the extra days, even if you don't need them.

So when it gets a little closer to July 2013, you can't call the hotel to adjust the number of days but still get the lower daily rate from starting the reservation on the 13th?

Oh and how much was the Manchester if you booked through TP?

Through TP it was $268/night.  I think if you change the reservation they can change the price.

iirc, the issue was *getting* a room at the hyatt via TP not so much how much it costs...

Gotcha.  Anyone find any other hotels that we can start booking now?
