It could be something JJ put in the trailer just to mess with us? Maybe? I also took the line about people not always being gone as maybe a hint at him coming back since he laughs right after Luke says that. Bringing out Ian McDiarmid at the end on stage might be another tease at him coming back somehow, or a tease to full on mess with us, or just fan service because we all love him..  Another option-since this is the "end of an era" he could be in the trailer just because he's been in the other movies and has an integral part in the overall story, even if not specifically ep 9.  For my own excitement reasons, I hope he isn't dead, or comes back in some form or another.

Another part of me thought it sounded like Mark Hamill's Joker, so I'm putting a very small percentage chance that it's Mark cackling.

Luke's my favorite character.  Please don't let him be dead.   :'(

Trailer got me excited except for the small fact we’re on a desert planet again. That would make seven out of the main nine movies featuring a desert world.

I hope whatever they have planned after Episode 9 stays far away from sandy planets.

During the Celebration panel a few hours ago JJ said they spent three weeks shooting in Jordan which is probably the sandy bits. That said, three weeks isn't enough for the whole movie to be set there or anything.

IIRC, George Lucas said he returned to Tatooine because it was home; a base/starting point.  For Rey, Jakku is that starting point and so the film could be returning there.

The title of Episode IX, "The Rise of Skywalker" reaffirms by theory about Rey's lineage and connection to the Skywalker line, as well as how this film will tie back to "Episode One: The Phantom Menace," which I hinted at above in my previous post.  Like Rey, Anakin Skywalker was a nobody.

Did we know Lando was going to be in it? Did I just completely push that out of my mind?

They announced it a while ago but tbh I'm envious of you, what a nice surprise. They kept a pretty tight lid on that character laughing at the end though.

Speaking as a pessimist, I predict the next Star Wars movie (if they make another one) won't come out until I am a senior citizen.

Is that a hint of Episode 10?

"The Rise of Skywalker." Who is rising?  Luke is dead.  Leia sadly is a bit restricted on plot.  Ben is technically a Solo.  Skywalker?? Rising???

JJ gets to Retcon The Last Jedi

The more things change, the more they stay the same

Hoban 'Wash' Washburn: It's okay, I'm a leaf on the wind!
Capt. Malcolm Reynolds: What does that mean?

If he gets to retcon TLJ, then we COULD still see Skywalker Rey.  I'm surprised to see that theory is still so prevalent when it was squashed pretty hard with that mirror scene.  I was so set on it after TFA but then that happened.  So I mean I guess we can just bring it back because why not?
