From what I've been told, the Ultimates are sold out, as well. Got my ticket at least. This is the first year they are trying/using a waiting room, as well. It didn't have a "place" number like SDCC's does, though. Definitely a new experience for them, but it seemed to go pretty smoothly.

i was given the option of the ultimate pass @ $475 <yikes> when i just tried.

I gotta admit, i prefer sdcc, even tho nycc is about 3,000 miles closer then sdcc.  Something abt Oct in NYC that's just chilly.

I never find it cold plus I'm inside the entire time. I normally end up sweating by the end of the day!

I've only been twice and always enjoy myself. I get to see a friend from overseas which is always awesome!  8)

Welcome! I might be off by a few but you'll def. be close!

I will add this though, I still wouldn't wait until the panel you want to go into IGN Theater. I'd still go in a panel before because depending on the panel, everyone will want to be there.

Another good thing about the Ultimate--you can show up about 15 minutes before the showing at the IGN and get a seat. The year of the Avengers it allowed me to meet Tom Hiddleston, *and* get into the panel. It's really pricey, but it can be worth it.

Kinda? Like there is a separate line up for Ultimates. Flash your badge, in you go. As long as you show up 10 minutes before the panel in the IGN theater you are guaranteed a seat.

I got my Ultimate tickets (UL) on Tuesday, there was a pre-sale for people who previously bought VIP (Special or Ultimate) in the past; like a loyalty sale which I was very grateful for as it eased my tension tremendously. Very expensive and with my SDCC trip this year my march cc bill is gonna be hard to look at since I paid my TP hotel and booked my flight this month as well, but since I turn 30 this year I called in a very early b-day gift to get the NYCC tix, though I would definately have bought the lower Special access VIP no matter what, since that was what I got last year. I just wanted to go for the UL passes this year.

Lots of people complaining they didn't have enough time to gather money with only two days notice, but if you know your going to a comic con what is there to complain about you have to buy your tickets, also not like you are paying in cash this is going on your CC

Yes the UL pasees garuntees you in the room and the seats are about the first 5 or 6 rows. I was in the front row last year for the walking dead and firefly panel, though I had gotten a separate ticket because of some other drama. For the UL passes there is a seperate entrance to the IGN theater and you are garunteed a seat and don't have to wait to get in, for the bigger panels this is important as they don't clear the room so having a UL pass you don't have to camp out all day in the room and can enjoy the rest of the show. Word of caution though the other panel rooms are first come first serve, so the UL passes don't garuntee you entrance to the other rooms but most of those don't fill up nearly as much. Also you get access to the kick  off concert, but as that did not fill up last year the benefit is so so as anyone who wanted to go and only had a 4 day ticket did get in.

Also all VIPs gets first access to the show floor with a separate entrance, but if you plan on getting on line to get a panel autograph ticket be prepared to get there and pretty much camp out the night before and be sure to be on the regular line not the VIP line. The autograph tickets are free but are pretty much limited to the first 100 people on line to get in the door that day (not the panel)

Also the VIPs have a vip room that has a coat and bag check in it. There is a special signing with 2 artists supposedly only for UL passes but last year it was in the VIP room and even though I had a special access badge the artist, Brian Vaughn, had absolutely no line and was just texting so I walked up to him and talked to him for a few minutes and got a autograph from him for a friend who is a big fan.

You know what, I didn't get SDCC tix last year and I was upset and complained but there was that glitch with the link in the email, which was legitimate. Even SDCC admitted so by offering a pre re-sale to people who did not get tickets. But I logged in this morning for NYCC tix just to see what the queue system was like and still got through, there was no glitch these people just got sold out like any other event (Concert, Sporting Game, etc...), and not even really sold out there are still regular tickets available. Not like SDCC where 90 minutes after they went on sale the emtire show was sold out

I can understand the lack of warning complaints. I use to have the same issue when concerts would go on sale. You'd find out a few days before and at the time, being a teen, I used cash or I have to give the cash to my parents.

Even now, I don't use my CC if I don't have to. I use my bank card. I'm sure a lot of people try to do that. While many people DO have credit cards, not everyone does.

They are rolling it out in waves so only the people really interested in VIPs and 4 days would go to the site today

I can understand about the lack of warning to an extent, I mean 2 days is very short notice. Likely a week or two would have been better if they were planning on rolling out the tickets. Though they did start selling 4 day passes in January last year and the VIPs I believe went on sale in July. And the really crazy fans, ahem  ::) , are on top of these things and will make the funds available

even if you are a teen and don't have the available funds and need your parents to buy the tickets unless they are really extremely strict, I think most reasonable parents would understand the situation if you explain it to them. Also I think most teens would not be going after the VIP level tickets and the 4 day tickets are only $85 and can be bought as of right now, and likely won't even sell out for a few months. NYCC doe snot sell out as quickly as SDCC, only the VIPs

I understood that, but still applies, you know tickets are on sale you make funds available. If your parents are a bank, that you have to give funds to then you have to do what you have to do.

I get sold out of a lot of things, sometimes you get that ticket someimes you don't. Last year there were only 800 Special Access tickets andn 200 UL tickets, that is not a lot. Even if they expanded that amount a bit you have to luck out just like anything else

It's funny cause tyickets are available for months and months then all of a sudden they all sell out over a weekend and individual day tickets sell for more than 4 days. I even know people who go like 2 days then sell the ticket to someone for sunday and break even

Hey Alyssa,

I was looking though the 2012 NYCC thread and noticed you mentioned you were going after the walking dead signing tix, did you get them by any chance.

I saw some people were not that big of fans of that show, but this will bbe my 5th year and I have been happier and happier as each year goes on. Though I will admit the Javitts center construction was problematic last year, but this year they plan on being done so I think that will be better.

NYCC announced new guests this week:

Comics:

Marc Silverstri
Scott Snyder

Entertainment:

Josh Gates (Sunday Only)

Also I was NY Auto Show last week. The construction site that was outside and inside the Javits is gone. There's still alot of construction going on 1-2 blocks away though. The whole area surrounding the Javits is being redeveloped. And is going to look much different, in few years:

I think it all depends on how you do it. If you only do a day, it's not bad. I've done a weekend was able to use hotel points. I wouldn't do 5 nights in NYC for NYCC. Plus NYC hotels are expensive all the time, it's hard to find deals in general.

It's definitely a Con I'd like to go to, but the timing is bad, and combined with the location it's a no go. It's right in the middle of the school year, and given that it takes pretty much a full day to fly from West Coast to East Coast, I can't spare the time to actually attend. I have the same problem with DragonCon, even though it's over Labor Day weekend.

When I went I stayed in NJ. I think the hotel was $250 for the week, but it was one of those crappy hotels. I wish I had gotten a weekly bus pass as it was $5 I think each way.

Next time I'll have to look at other things to do while there as I pretty much just hung around Times Square and checked out wall street.

I don't see how there is an overweight problem there to where they feel the need to do soda bans. When I was there, I walked more there in NYC than I can remember.

Though, it is just like you see on TV. Rats running around, pigens all over, and trash/news papers flying all over the place.

I wouldn't want to drive through there though with all the people running out in the roads all the time.

I grew up in nyc and my husband lived there for years so it was visiting old stomping grounds... the nycc was just a good excuse for a vaka.  we've been wanting to get a place for a few days in nyc for years.

if we go again, we'll most likely stay out side of the city & take a train in.  But as TM said, the middle of the school year is a killer for us-  last year really threw a wrench into the kiddo's schedule.

Yeah, I am going to NYCC this year, mostly because I couldn't get tickets to SDCC (which I went to last year). I did make sure to look at past guests to see that I might actually like the potential 2013 guests XD. I did get the VIP, because why not.

If any of you guys would like to split room costs, let me know (or if you have a place in/near the city and want a paying boarder). I have a few that are super cheap in NJ that I can do by myself, but it would just be more fun with more people (and if possible stay within walking to Javits). I did SDCC by myself, and while I had a lot of fun, it still would have been nice to be able to talk to fellow fans after the day is over.

Yes, NYCC is going to be hella dolla dolla bills. -_-#

...but my plane ticket to SDCC alone last year cost more than my rent XD

LOL. I didn't see any of that when I went about 10 years ago. Did have a lot of homeless people come up to me and my friends though in Times Square.

But no kidding about the traffic. I am pretty sure the majority of people who live downtown do not own cars and most commuters use public transportation.

A good public transportation system is really a boon for NYCC. Penn Station is in walking distance. I kind of thought the public transportation in San Diego sucked. I used to live in Minneapolis where it is wonderful, and San Diego was quite sub par.

I guess I'll have to stick a 12 pack of soda in my suitcase before I go now though :P.

Ugh. CA has so many of these regulations. Leave my soda alone! I drink diet soda, but it's not right to ban anyone from drinking what they want. Besides, alcohol has just as many calories. Are they going to ban glasses of beer more than 16 oz too? Sigh...

The Fat police, next the life style police. The last time I checked this was a free country , or we end up like the movie "Demolition Man" :D, I really love the rant by Denis Leary's character

I'm the kinda guy that likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecue ribs with the side-order of gravy fries?" I want high cholesterol! I wanna eat bacon, and butter, and buckets of cheese, okay?! I wanna smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section! I wanna run naked through the street, with green Jell-O all over my body, reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly may feel the need to, okay, pal?

The soda ban has been overturned!

http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/03/11/report-judge-overturns-nycs-soda-ban/# (http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/03/11/report-judge-overturns-nycs-soda-ban/#)

That was voted down a few weeks ago.

Also breaking news looks like NYCC is sold out tof 4 day tickets. Though likely local (to NY) comic shops may have them in hand during the summer

Yes and no. They still haven't released 3 day and single day tickets for sale. But the tickets that are on sale are selling out more quickly. Also likely local comic shops will have a limited number of 4 days

They've only been selling 4-day passes, the last 3 years. But this is fastest they've sold out online, of any pass. Last year, they sold out online of 4-day and 3-day passes in September. I think they will completely sellout online by July or August.

On their Facebook page, they said they will have limited quantity of 4-day passes at retailers (Midtown Comics, at least) over the summer.

I think a lot of people are waiting on the 3-days passes. I am curious as to how fast these will go.

I am really glad that they were around long enough so that anyone who wanted a 4-day pass had plenty of opportunity to get one.

They really were around long enough for anyone, but you still see whiners complaining they were sold out after almost 5 weeks of availability. Some complaining about not getting VIP tickets is ok the day of but you can't whine 5 weeks later about regular passes being unavailable

In case any one is interested- I have room for 2-3 more people in my hotel room. I am staying at the Holiday Inn on Times Square. It is only a 10 minute/ half mile walk to Javits. Rooms are small (it's New York afterall), but hot breakfast is included. It has double beds, so your feet may hang off the edge (which is how I sleep in my home queen bed anyways). It is $115 per person per night for 4 people(singles and couples a-ok with me!). If anyone wants floor, they would obviously pay less (if we can get 5 people, one would have floor, but both myself or the other person will take it if no one else wants to-you will not be forced on the floor, and everyone will pay less if we can get 5). Right now it is me and another girl from Toronto. I have the room 10/10-10/13 (the other girl is only staying 10/11-10/13). If you want to get down with other conventioneers, this is a great spot.

I am really happy to be so close. As great as my hotel was at SDCC last year (super awesome suite), I feel like I really missed out on something staying way out in National City. If you want to be super close to NYCC and are interested, please message me. I'll post updates if I get any takers.

If anyone needs help getting full body air brushed (so much easier with two people!) for their cosplay- I will be bringing my air compressor if you bring the air brush paint (I can make recommendations if you want)! In case anyone was wanting to do this and hasn't bought the stuff yet-a $100 savings in addition to the room ;).

I probably won't take you up on the room--but can I say that you're awesome for offering this. Only because I spent 2 hours getting airbrushed from my friend at SDCC, and yeah, with one person it's nearly impossible. And compressors/guns are expensive.

ICv2 interview with Lance Fensterman about C2E2 and NYCC. Biggest change for NYCC this year, is that they are using RIPD tech for badges this year:

http://www.icv2.com/articles/news/25655.html

What’s coming up for New York Comic Con?

We sold out four-day tickets-that’s done.  We’re going to stagger our on-sale dates, so in a few weeks, we’ll put the three-day tickets on sale, and then shortly thereafter we’ll put the single day tickets on sale.  We’ll be ramping that up pretty quickly. It’s going to be crazy.  There are some big changes in store about how we’re going to secure the building. We’re going to start using RFID technology in all of our badges to prevent fraud and things like that, so it’s going to look and feel a little bit different, but we think it’s going to create a better experience for our fans and a little bit more controlled environment for everybody involved.

Radio-frequency identification:

I think here, it will be mostly used to verify real badges from fake ones.

One example is for toll road pre-paid, they give you that box that you stick to your windshield so when you drive thru their electromagentic field, it knows its you and that you have paid.

In the case of badges, my guess is that they will wave a wand over the badge and get a signal to make sure the badge is valid.  Or they could have a metal detector looking thing to do the same thing.

Wouldn't the cost of the tech drive the cost of badges up? And there is always a way to beat the tech.
Title: Re: NYCC General Discussions and Questions

Well since badges have already gone on sale, I don't think it's affected the price that much. If it has, it seems that maybe NYCC is eating the costs for now.

I swore I posted before but it was like deja vu. The site crashed!  After 45 minutes I was finally able to register on my iphone. It was a mess.  They also raised ticket prices for pros 150% percent without notice.  Granted $25 is still a great price but it's a big jump percentage wise from last year's $10.

@Yzrfan Re: RFID, remember, unlike SDCC/CCI, NYCC is for-profit and it's run by the exhibitions branch of the multi-billion dollar international publishing company Reed Elsevier. Costs affiliated with the new tech would likely be spread across their book of business (or at least across all of the exhibits put on by Reed Exhibitions) so it shouldn't result in a huge bump in the ticket prices.

well I'll be, that is certainly the quickest.

I am most definately going to suggest they have an opportunity at the con this year to buy 2014 tickets. If CCI can do it, NYCC can do it.

Funny I knew NYCC was run by ReedPop but only realized about a week ago that that was an arm of reed-elsevier publishing. I work for a different publisher, but in a completely non-related section

We didn't have to do it as pros. Probably because there was an application involved.

I was only in the waiting room for 2 seconds before it passed me on. Such a great, easy experience.

In other news, wow we have our own forum now!

Just leaving this here, sent an email to them a while ago and this was their (quick) response:
"Pretty awesome idea!

And know what? We are planning on doing something very similar this year. All badges will be RFID coded and you will scan in and out with your badge by tapping it on an RFID reader at the entrance and exit. Cool eh? In the future (like 14) you’ll be able to use your badge to pay for things at the con as well.

So, great idea, we are already on it!"

I pretty much wrote about being able to control traffic in areas/rooms, avoid fake tickets, and "trade ins" (groups of friends relay in and out with just two tickets).

Seems like their making badges more non-transferable. Like credit/debit cards. Especially in 2014.

They have begun to have parties at venues around NYC after the show ends, I started noticing it last year.

The main difference is that when you leave the Javitts there is not a lot around and the show is over, but like you're still in NYC. No other way to describe it.

People make trips to NYC just to go to NYC

don't do it, really they seem like they have good intentions but honestly i felt the whole experience was garbage and wasted like 2 hours of my time the year i tried it.

Becuase of the way they set it up even I ended up and when they started I ended up missing 4 sessions like 15-20 minutes just sitting cause it was uneven and I felt the guy was obnoxious. Maybe it works for some but really once they have the cameras you can really tell what they are there for

Yeah anytime TV get's involved things change. They sent me a invite last year to submit a audition tape and talk about myself some but i never followed up on it. Ppl have had some success on it tho. I saw a cpl marriages and some kids being born to ppl that met at them. I think that since there's gonna be so many ppl in attendance that if your just social you can meet a guy or lady to hang out with after con.

The Javits center has chase atm's and long lines behind them. I highly advise you to use an atm outside of the convention center.

Title: Re: NYCC General Discussions and Questions

It doesn't cost. If you get a winning ticket, that's it. Then you take part in the signing.

The walking dead autograph tickets are free. That said the free tickets are not random draws in the morning like SDCC. It is literally the first X number of people on line in the morning (for TWD it was about 100 tickets) so pretty much people are lining up the night before to get the autograph. IIRC the signing time was also very close to the panel so pretty much if you got that you were likely not getting into the panel room that day, which from what I hear is not that different from SDCC.

There are autographing areas where you pay for the autograph as well and then there are other autographing sessions where tickets are handed out by the specific booth and then there is always artist alley.

I remember last year that autograph line wrapped all around the block. Thing is, that same line is also the line to get in. So alot of people are standing in line just to get into the building, not trying to get autograph tickets.

NYCC is just one 3 hour Wednesday Preview Night from being as long as SDCC.

$600 to SDCC? That's like one day for me! :) I'll only bring so much cash, but I'll have all my credit cards and AMEX with me! You just never know!

Yeah, but I go to San Diego for a week. I only go to NYC for the weekend. I'm not taking a week off work to go to NYC. lol

I don't do a lot of exclusives or anything like that. I only bought two items this past SDCC. Everything else is just food or BS things like going to the movies.

I do a lot of exclusives, but personal money I bring 200 a day for food, parking, and little stuff.  I budget exclusives before the show so that is an already figured expense that varies.  I also try to grab a key Silver Age book or two a year and that adds another dent.  I am apparently in the top 2% of spenders though based on the per attendee purchasing at NYCC.

Hi all, this is my first post here. I am attempting to attend NYCC this year. I wish to buy tickets for myself, my brother, my girlfriend, and her siblings as well. I see only the single tickets are available and the 4-day and VIP are sold out… my question is, how long do you all think until the single days sell out as well? I need a little more time to save enough money and I am worried they will not be available by next month or so. How much time do I have to save? Thanks guys, hope to see everyone there :)
Title: Re: NYCC General Discussions and Questions
Post by: mllNY on July 07, 2014, 05:02:50 PM
Saturday and Sunday are already sold out online so you are cutting it close if your group wants even just Thursday and Friday. I would say for those days you have about a month or so more. But buying individual days is going to cost you.

Depending where you live, IMO your best bet is to get your money together ASAP and find out when midtown comics are getting their allotment as they will likely have 3 and 4 day tickets and if you are dead set on getting tickets plan on getting on the midtown comics line at least 12 hours in advance. Also depending on how many are in your group and how many midtown will sell to one person is going to be a factor in how many people from your group need to line up. This is just if you are 100% dead set on going. If it really is not that important you can try midtown and get there 2 hours before opening and hope they have tickets left. Last year there was a big line the day they went on sale and I fully expect it to be worse this year by a lot

Which panel is it

Hi guys, I have a quick question - a relative bought me my NYCC tickets as a birthday gift and then shipped then to me when they got them. I registered them online in my name though. NYCC shouldn't give me any trouble about that, right? They won't asked to see the card that paid for the tickets? I always buy my own so I'm a little concerned.

Also, I have 3 day passes but the friend going with me can't go all three days, so I'm bringing another friend to use his pass. All the passes were registered in my name though. Is that a problem? Thanks so much!

You should be fine. I've never had my ID/CC checked unless I was actually picking up my badge.

As far the friends, go, it shouldn't be an issue I don't think. It's more or less so if someone loses a badge it can be replaced. But that's probably a question Brian should answer. I'd send them an email because we're not sure how they plan on using the chips this year.

Yup. It was on the floor but the layout in Chicago is different because of the center layout. Everything is in the hall at C2E2. It wasn't with the autograph booths though.

Question, according to NYCC, Paget Brewster is available on Sunday October 12 for a panel and "booth signing," but I couldn't find any info as to when and where the booth signing will be or if it's even on Sunday?  Anybody know about how booth signings are scheduled/set up?

Thrilling Adventure hour has a booth on the floor. It's booth 888. They should have info on any signings and events at the booth so check with them as soon as you get to the convention to see how they are working the in booth signings.

Paget Brewster signing is Sunday 1:30pm-2:30pm booth #888. You probably still want to check with the booth earlier in the day to see if how they are working it. Not sure if they will be giving out some sort of ticket or just forming a line.

Does anyone know where Queue hall is? Is it just downstairs where you usually line up for Main Stage, but just broken up into different lines?

Anyone know anything about the live stream for panels, for us poor souls that are not attending? I found something doing a Google search, but the list of panels is small-anyone know if more will be added? Seems weird that the Walking Dead (TV show) panel is not being streamed.

I guess I am spoiled!

Here is what I found via Google:

I'm sure they need approval for whatever they stream, which could explain why shows/movies are missing.

i seem to remember it being underground close to the general ticket entrance.  iirc, the down stairs were close to the short escalators up to the floor

ReedPop news tomorrow. Are we thinking a new show, C2E2, SE: NYC, or NYCC?  I think it may be SE:NYC maybe an offshoot shot at NYCC info...

i was thinking either se:nyc dates or ticket info for nycc

but then it could be info on c2e2 or star wars celebration ---  but i'm hoping for something more North East focused---

"ReedPop news" sounds like new show or acquisition. I think if it were about a show they already it would be specific like "C2E2 news":

But it could be dates and location for SE:NYC too. Since Brian also said he had a "site visit" for it today.

Huge!

Quote
ECCC, director Jim Demonakos and his staff will remain not just with ECCC, but actually join ReedPOP in expanded roles that will see them involved with organizing and executing other conventions as well, both in the United States and internationally. Indeed, in this exclusive interview with Demonakos and ReedPOP vice present Lance Fensterman, the new union’s stated goal is to find ways for “ what makes Emerald City so much fun for creators to be infused into New York and C2E2.”

Thrilled!  even tho i havent been to a eccc, brining their staff on board is brilliant

I have a question for those that had SA VIP tickets last year that also got wristbands for main stage panels.
What was the procedure? Were you basically able to walk in the door and go directly to the back of the wristband lines? (And skip over a bunch of regular pass holders that were filing in?)
I'm asking because last year I got in the general ticket holder line around 7am and was able to get wristbands for all of the main stage panels I wanted, including Walking Dead.  Just wondering if it would be worth it to try for a SA pass if I plan on waiting in lines for the wristband distribution.

First, SA (Special Access) VIP does not give you main stage panel benefits. It's the more expensive ($525) Ulimate Access that does. And yes with UA you can just walk in 20 minutes before the panel and bypass everyone and the wait.

OK so basically you're asking does a SA pass give you any line access/entry perks into Javits in the morning and specifically to get to the wristband lines. The general answer would be "no." The lounge is not open 24 hours or really any earlier than when regular pass holders would be allowed into Javits to que up. There is a special VIP entrance ... not that special since they let a lot of non-VIPs in that entry way ... but again, I don't believe they would or do open up those doors any earlier than the general cue line. I guess in theory if they opened up the VIP entrance the same time as the main que line, you can probably outwalk (since it's less crowded) folks to the cue line and save a couple of minutes but in terms of "Hey come to the VIP lounge early and we'll let you out early before anyone gets to cue up from the general admission line" is not a perk they advertise and haven't seen it or witnessed it.

That's fine with me...last year some random stranger I was sitting next to made me take a selfie with her using her selfie stick. I guess she wanted to show her non-attendee friends she was having fun?

@karatekid that's what I figured. There's no way my friends are going to shell out over $500 for the Ultimate Passes and the Special Access would have no *advertised* benefit to us since we'd be lined up early for the Main Hall wristbands anyway.
(I got spoiled the one year I got the UA pass. That will never happen again now that friends are coming with me.)

as of now, 5 full days later, thursday tickets are available. why is this? i have only attended 2014's nycc. fri-sat.

i have heard thursday was good. least crowded. perhaps their best day of the four.

am i missing something? i had a business appointment thursday. should i have called in sick?

Personally, I love Thursday; it's the one day where I can get things done a day early -- plus less crowd to deal with. But perhaps the reason why not many chose it is because not many are able to take Thursday off with Friday; assuming if your workplace allowed you one day from that week, many would pick Friday over Thirsday.
Title: Re: NYCC General Discussions and Questions
Post by: matthew on May 18, 2015, 08:37:43 PM
ah true. this makes sense.

friday steps on thursday's toes in this regard. so even if thursday is not the best, at worst, i can get a good look at 50 percent of the show floor (alot of show floor, quality eyeball time). hmmm.

this would make thursday 2nd best day for me alone. at least.

dragoncon makes the most money via conventions. and seem to be the most fun, and have the most options.

1. how to take nycc in stages to that goal?
2. should that be a goal?
3. would you want that or not?

i understand that the javits is the only convention hall in nyc. atlantic city is in sad shape. and is dangerous off the main strip. nyc has not as many hotel rooms compared to smaller cities like vegas or atlanta.

What time did you get there Boukerend? I figured the red carpet stuff wouldn't start until about 6pm or so. So I got there close to 3:30pm as they said to do. But there were already hundreds of people on line at the Best Buy Theater. From there, they were taking smaller groups two blocks down to red carpet stage. My friend and I waited in line for about 2 hours, before they brought us there. That front was full of people. They were also a bunch of people without passes outside of barricades that were to watch.

Just heads up. Based online research there will be Fantastic Four NYC premiere August 4th. Don't know if/where there giving out passes.

I went there around noon; and when I got there, there were at least 12 people ahead of me already. They didn't let us go to the red carpet until 4-ish, but luckily we did end up at the barricade area where the stars were signing.

And I got the Fantastic Four ticket premiere for this Tuesday this morning; they sent out the e-mail this morning.

I've been going to NYCC ever since the beginning....I don't recall any leaked footage from major panels (Marvel's The Avengers, Tomorrowland, Marvel's Daredevil) throughout NYCC's existence except X-Files 2 movie trailer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5CEhjJuPig (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5CEhjJuPig))  but that hardly made the rounds on social media/Internet whatever. I get the feeling the NYCC crowd really respects the exclusive footage being shown there (if Jeph Loeb emphasizes that its exclusive footage they probably won't film...although someone behind tried filming Daredevil footage but he was caught lol.) ...not to mention Main Stage is not as cavernous as Hall H so its easier to police anyone trying to film. Just my .02

No footage leaking from D23?  I found the Civil War footage someone recorded with their cell phone online.

There are a couple fake trailers on youtube.

I agree about little footage leaking from NYCC in the past. I also think Disney and Marvel have stricter security than other studios.

Question:  How important is location for NYCC?   I have a place to stay for free, however, it is 5 miles away.  According to maps it takes an hour to get there by bus/train.

I noticed they released the design of the official shirt on the Twitter.  Is anybody preordering?  If there is no danger of selling out of specific sizes I might as well just wait until the convention and save on shipping.  Also for preordering I noticed that they only offer the standard men's S to XL sizes.  Will there be other choices at the convention itself such as ladies, kids and larger men's sizes?  I searched last year's threads and couldn't find any info on this.  Any insight is appreciated.  :)

I think well I heard with D23 they made everyone put their phones in bags they provided. I think that's what I heard/read.

ANd yeah Disney/Marvel brought their own security to the con (http://www.businessinsider.com/nycc-why-you-wont-see-leaked-marvel-avengers-ant-man-daredevil-footage-2014-10 (http://www.businessinsider.com/nycc-why-you-wont-see-leaked-marvel-avengers-ant-man-daredevil-footage-2014-10)). I don't recall WB doing that at NYCC.

I remember Marvel had its own security in Hall H for the Avengers panel last year.

Since no one's answered, Ill try to give you a little help here.  Caveat - I've never attended NYCC before (UA this year).  I have spent at least 2-6 weeks in Manhattan every year for the past 5 years, so I know the city okay.  Not as great as the locals.... but I'll do my best.

Here's why I think it's not that important to stay really close.  The obvious downside to staying anywhere nice is the huge hotel bill.  And while that will put you closer to con, that area isn't really nice and there is no Gaslamp area right outside.  Someone already pointed out you need to go 6 blocks north to find Gotham West Market for some decent food... but the best food NY has to offer probably can't be found in that area.  You'd need to take subways anyway.  Same goes for nightlife, shopping, etc.

If you're like me, and you buy WAY too much stuff, you can always use a taxi/uber/lyft.  Won't be cheap, but they'll drive you right to your door, and it will be a lot less than a night at yotel down the street.

May I ask what area you're coming in from?  1 hour seems a little long from 5 miles out.

Oh I def agree with this.  For most people it will be a huge help.  I think I'll be using the 7 a lot.  But I was speaking more about lugging bags of merchandise into/out of subway stations, transfers, buses, etc.  The idea of moving stuff up and down all those subway steps, then transferring to a bus, then a .5 mile walk home... all after you've spent the day at NYCC?  If your 5 mile trip home starts to look like that, Cabs start to sound pretty good (to me at least)

at past years at D23, they checked all electronics and wanded everyone for the studios presentations. presumably because the room doubled in size this year, they went on a partial honor system of 'requiring' all electronics ('anything with a screen that lights up') in a self-sealed bag. It was easy enough not to comply if one really wanted, but they also had a number of security (4-5 people for each aisle) constantly walking up and down with night vision goggles.

as far as NYCC goes, Marvel's security is second-to-none in my experience. Regardless, Disney brought Tomorrowland to NYCC last year and I don't recall any issues coming from it. And the same went for Marvel (though the really good MCU stuff was in the MU+ panel which also had tight security).

and should Star Wars swoop in, I'm sure security will be just as tight if not tighter.

Disney had also released new trailers almost immediately afterward for Big Hero 6 and Tomorrowland at NYCC last year too. So there were less demand for footage to be put online.

Ah okay.  I can see certain areas being about an hour if you aren't close to a subway station.  FWIW, I still think it's a better option than staying close to NYCC, but I'm sure you'll have fun whichever option you choose to go with.

Not sure if this has been asked before, but does anyone know if NYCC has a coat/bag check in area? I can't remember from the past times I've been there. I know that most conventions do, but I've never had to use one before and am thinking of doing it this year (I'm coming in from CT on the train on the days I'm attending because it's cheaper than getting a hotel, and I may need a place to leave a change of clothes after wearing my cosplay).

There are coat and bag checks at NYCC. Just not sure on the fee though.

Is There A Coat Check?

Yup! The Javits Center operates a Coat Check open to all Exhibitors and Fans. It's located across from Starbucks on the Level 2 South Concourse overlooking the entrance to Main Events Hall-D. The cost is $3.00 per item. You can check briefcases, backpacks, umbrellas and luggage. There is a separate Coat Check for VIPs in the VIP Lounge.

officially, no. unofficially, it's doubtful it won't work. they just check for validity and current in/out status, not photos or names or anything

if they are all individual day tickets that you have, just activate the tickets under the names of the people going on the day they are going.

so you have 2 thursday passes and it is you and your friend go so you and your friend activate those badges
for friday your gf and her friend activate those friday badges

Perfect. So when we activate the badges, that's where we'll have to enter a name. I thought it was weird since if you bought 4 tickets, they would all be under 1 name and that doesn't make sense. Thanks a bunch.

A question about panels: how fast does the room for the Empire Stage fill up? I know that they don't clear it between panels, and I don't have a UA badge. Do you generally have to stay in the room all day for later panels, or does the line move at all throughout the day? I've only ever done the Main Stage and some of the smaller panel rooms, but I'd like to see a few things in there this year!
Title: Re: NYCC General Discussions and Questions

i'd say the biggest factor is the schedule and demand for the panels. as a crude example, san diego had an issue for a couple of years in hall H when it had twilight panels at last. the twi-hards had no problem camping for days before and grabbing seats for all the panels that came before the one they really wanted just to guarantee themselves a spot. myself at nycc, i spent all day saturday years back waiting for the avengers panel. I actually didn't mind some of the panels I sat through, I have to admit.

last year, even though I had a UA, I didn't yet know they were forming a separate line for Empire so I went standby for Once Upon A Time. I think I showed up probably 45 minutes before, there was already quite a line waiting to get in which moved very slowly. I did make it in on time, but if it's a panel in any room that I really want to attend, I'd show up for the panel before, if not earlier, if I can, just for a better chance at getting in. I have no doubts that others waiting to get in didn't.

I don't think that would work this year. If I understand right you need to get wristbands for all the panels you want to see and they probably give them all out in the morning. And if you don't have one you can't see it. But I could be wrong.

I think that the wristbands only apply to the Main Stage? That's how it worked last year anyway! Not sure if they've changed that though...? That would certainly make things a bit more difficult, haha.

No. The Main Stage is just across from the Queue Hall

The Empire Stage is further down the convention center to the right of the Main Stage.

Ooh well that changes everything (for me anyway). I was thinking it was the same as empire stage. I guess I won't need wristbands then since there's nothing I want to see in Main Stage (so far)

Re: Empire Stage --

Can someone run me through how it works/what time I need to be there/where I need to be? I'm a DragonCon veteran, but this is my first NYCC and my first experience with a con that doesn't clear the room between panels.

I have a ticket for Sunday, and I am attending specifically to see the Person of Interest panel that is grouped in with some other WB panels on the Empire Stage from 1:30-5:30. It's a regular ticket, not VIP.

Any thoughts on what time I should show up? 8am? 7? I know the Con doesn't open until 10 -- do people line up before that? Also, are the lines formed outside the room itself? From what I can tell from this floorplan: http://www.javitscenter.com/attend/floor-plans/overview/, 1E seems to be at the back of the building. Do I go straight there once I get in, or is there somewhere else the lines queue up?

Any advice would be SUPER appreciated. I bought my ticket specifically to go to this panel and would be super bummed if I didn't get in.

I sort of mirror the above post in relation to how the Empire stage works.  My undrestanding is basically queue for the appropriate panel you want and get let in if there is space (???)

But my query relates to the WB signings too. There are a couple of people I would love to meet and I would be interested in trying for these signings.

Firstly, how do these signings work? Is it queue up early and wait and it comes down to luck if you get their autograph? Is there a point where you know you are wasting your morning waiting or is it capped so you know if you are getting an autograph (hopefully you get what i mean)

Secondly, as these signings happening a couple of hours just before the panels, what the are chances of being able to do both, esp with it being at the Empire stage.   If i get the autos, is it likely the queue for the panels will be too big for me to bother trying, or do i give trying for the autos to hopefully make the panels? , or is it possible to do both?

Sorry for all the questions (total US con newbie) and thanks for any help :-)

The logistics of the autograph will be based on the team managing the area. You will have to go to the area and ask - that is what I will be doing.

The empire stage panel room seats about 2-2,500 people iirc and this panel room is not cleared in between panels. Th WB panel is technically one big panel, so even if the panel room was cleared between panels that would not occur for the WB panel.

I forget what time the Javitts center official lets you inside the building but it is around 8ish, and people are filtered into the queue hall. The queue hall will be split into 6ish chutes; 1 for wristbands for each main stage panel that day and 1 for the exhibit floor/everything else. I've never headed over straight to the empire stage but I don't think they let people whose goal is the empire stage to go to a different area unlike for artist alley where people will line up outside the AA area. Your goal would be to head over to the empire stage and get into the panel. As to what time you get there that as is somewhat general policy I won't discuss cause that just breeds panic (he said get here x time i'll go y earlier.) That said the WB panel will not be the first panel that day so it is up to you to decide if you want to sit through it, it really also depends on what that panel is and how popular it may be.

The last year or so except for marvel signings were done by a random draw on facebook, for now we just need to wait for confirm. Marvel for example handles their own signings adn does a raffle (which was a nightmanre last year for DareDevil)

It may be possible to do both. I've don't recall NYCC doing a panel this long in the past but I suspect that because of the length of the panel they will be cycling people as they leave the empire stage, but I guess it depends in what order they do which show and how much of a draw it is

Question, I plan to get an autograph from Billie Piper, who will be in the autographing area Saturday and Sunday (Saturday from 10am-12noon and again from 12:15-2pm).  Is this something I need to reserve in advance or do I just show up in line at the Autographing Area?  I ask because someone just asked about getting an autograph from the creator of Nanuto on Thursday and someone responded that it is sold out. I didn't see anything on NYCC's site that I needed to reserve a spot for Billie Piper.

For the autographs in the Autograph area there is no reservation process. You have to wait on line. I will guess this line may be long at times.

Good to know. So now the question I have to ask Reedpop is how will this affect the studio sponsored autographs???

I think that is separate, the above is for people who have an autograph table, if you win a panel autograph that is likely just line up.

two separate types of autographs we are talking about.

Question:  I have a SA badge.  Does going in the VIP entrances give me an advantage of getting into the main stage lines in the morning?

Not really. It all depends how early you get there and how early they let the gen pop in.

That's too bad.   I still haven't figured out what value the SA badge has.

Well other than I wouldn't have a badge at all

That's too bad.   I still haven't figured out what value the SA badge has.

From the list below, it looks like the primary benefits are first entry onto the exhibit floor, access to the VIP Lounge, and an included Super Week Card.

Limited Edition Badge that acts as a 4-Day ticket
Separate entrance to the Javits Center (avoid the long lines outside and the Queue Hall inside)
First access to the Show Floor each day
(Note: this is not early access. VIPs will be allowed on the Show Floor first, but not early)
Private VIP Lounge featuring live closed circuit TV from the Main Stage, private ATM, coat check and couches for relaxing
Official NYCC 2015 poster signed by the artist that created it
NYCC exclusive variant comic
Oversized re-usable NYCC shopping bag
15% discount at the ReedPOP Supply Co. Official Show Store onsite
Limited edition NYCC 2015 VIP exclusive lanyard
New York Super Week Card — includes discounts and access to special deals throughout NYC the week of New York Super Week

You can probably blame Steve Rannazzisi for the League Panel being cancelled. I hope they add some good stuff on Thursday in the main room.

So here's the other question with the wristbands -- is handing them out the slow, laborious, takes waaaaaaay too long than it really should practice like the Hall H line, or are they more efficient at NYCC?

I remember waiting ages to get my Daredevil wristband last year. If I recall correctly, they handed them out one panel at a time, in order. Daredevil was one of the later ones, so it seemed to take forever. They may change that this year. I was at BookCon (which is also run by ReedPop) and it didn't take very long to distribute the wristbands, so hopefully they're learning from previous attempts.

There are what, 3,000 people in the main stage?  That would be the equivalent of groups A and B for Hall H, which seemed to take them 3 hours to get through at SDCC, if you want a frame of reference.
Title: Re: NYCC General Discussions and Questions
Post by: jamiesugah on September 23, 2015, 10:36:10 AM
It definitely did not take 3 hours. I'm trying to remember when they actually started passing out wristbands, but I think it took maybe an hour or so to get them all distributed for all the panels?
Title: Re: NYCC General Discussions and Questions

I seem to recall that they went through most of the masses within an hour. There were some panels that have wristbands available a few hours into the morning.

I was apprehensive about the whole thing last year but afterwards I thought it was handled okay with a only few process improvements required.

OK, I know I asked this question before last year's NYCC, so smack me if you're tired of me asking it a second time!   :-X

"The Thrilling Adventure Hour" will have a panel at this year's Con on Saturday.  In addition, they will have in-booth signing, presumably on the Exhibit Floor.  I have had no luck finding the exact day and time this in-booth signing with them will take place.

Are in-booth signings something that is continuous, or is there an area of the NYCC site that gives the day and time that I have overlooked?  I know where their booth is, I found it on the map.
Title: Re: NYCC General Discussions and Questions

In-booth signings are generally not an all day thing and are usually run by the studio/publisher/what have you, so the times often aren't posted on the NYCC site. I imagine that if you follow their accounts on social media, they will announce when the signing is once they have a better idea of their schedule.

Question from a newbie:

I am interested in one of the WB signings, which apparently will take place in the autograph area. I gather that there are tickets or wristbands handed out for such signings. At SDCC I would head to the WB booth on Preview Night and ask them how the distribution process worked. But at NYCC, there does not appear to be a WB booth.

So how do I contact the WB people on Thursday morning to find out how the autograph handouts will work?

It said on the press release (http://warnerbrostv.tumblr.com/post/128674213735/wbtvdominatesnycc2015 (http://warnerbrostv.tumblr.com/post/128674213735/wbtvdominatesnycc2015)) its first come first serve and its in the Autographing Area (where celebs are doing signings...if they're there on a personal appearance). I was looking at the Autographing Area section on app. and it looks as though the casts will be at the same section/table throughout the day but they only have a short amount of time to sign (ex: Legends of Tomorrow is 11-11:30 and then Supergirl is 11:45-12:15 etc.).

I asked one of the WB TV PR people on Twitter what the deal was but she hasn't gotten back to me. Maybe I will try someone else. There is a DC Entertainment section out on the concourse or whatever (http://www.newyorkcomiccon.com/RNA/RNA_NewYorkComicCon_V2/2015/docs/NYCC15_JavitsOverview_RC.pdf?v=635787927322430272 (http://www.newyorkcomiccon.com/RNA/RNA_NewYorkComicCon_V2/2015/docs/NYCC15_JavitsOverview_RC.pdf?v=635787927322430272) ) and when they used to be on the show floor they had the WB TV signings there. They may have info on that or maybe not.

WB may not respond on the process via Twitter but could respond via direct email - you will see their email on the bottom of the press release.

I seriously think we will have to check with Reedpop personnel in the autograph area beforehand. I plan to check with them on my first day.

Hi everyone! This Saturday will be my first time at NYCC so I'm hoping everything goes smooth. The main thing I want to do Saturday is attend the Marvel Daredevil & Jessica Jones panel. I know it I'm going to have to start lining up early, but I'm not sure exactly how early will guarantee me a wristband, and since I'm driving from a few hours away, I don't want to go early and not get a wristband. Any suggestions/advice for a first timer going to one of the biggest panels? :p

At the talkback panel they mentioned security footage (specifically, reviewing it to determine what happened with the Sunday morning autographing debacle) so I am guessing that yes, there are security cameras everywhere and they are watching for any issues or problems, so that they can respond quickly.

ICV2 INTERVIEW: REEDPOP SVP LANCE FENSTERMAN

Quote
We caught up with ReedPOP Senior Vice President Lance Fensterman over the holidays for a wide-ranging discussion of the burgeoning geek culture convention business, starting with the Reed Exhibitions division’s most successful show, New York Comic Con.

How did New York Comic Con go [last October], and how was the attendance?
I believe we were at 167,000 total.  We grew a little bit by going to a full day on Thursday where before we’d been doing partials so that opened up some inventory for us.  I actually felt the show went as smooth as it’s gone in terms of logistics, which is what we look at a lot.

I think the content was strong. We want even stronger content but we saw a lot of growth in television content in particular. Not as much growth in film; maybe there’s a slight drop-off in film. In general we stayed true to the core of comic programming, and comic guests, that segment outnumbering everybody.  It’s always sweeter with time, but I felt it was very strong.

You’ve said in previous interviews that your current badge system gives you more information than before (see “Interview with ReedPOP’s Lance Fensterman”). Were you able to apply what you have learned about how the four-day badge people attended by, for example, selling more single-day passes on the slower days?
It’s a good question. This is the third year using RFID. We found that the level of busyness didn’t need adjustment. We didn’t see any gaps there, where ‘this time at this day’ is quiet.  We feel like the number of people in the building is plenty so we haven’t adjusted those quantities at all.  In fact, in theory, the same number of people each day were in the building. It hasn’t gone up. By adding that Thursday is where we got the growth largely.

We haven’t done a lot with that. We did however look very hard at cashless pay systems, which are very possible with RFID. We’ve felt like with the age of data, and data sensitivity that it might be too big of a leap to putting cash on those RFID chips.

You mean, pay with your badge?
Correct. It’s a possibility that we will continue to consider but it would be a big undertaking.

Then you’d get more interesting data?

Correct. You get to see spending habits and things like that, but it’s a big undertaking, with a lot of security work that would have to be done.

So what’s next, Wednesday night?
[Laughs.] I think what’s next is we need to expand out into the city before we think about extra days.  We took out the Hammerstein Ballroom for New York Comic Con programming.  We need to start finding other venues around the city that we can really bring content to and bring fans to as an official part of the show.  We’ve been starting to find new venue possibilities and how we would make sure the content is a strong draw for fans.

How does that relate to overall attendance? Do you capture information on people who buy tickets to the offsite events?
We don’t really. We have Super Week, which is that weeklong festival that surrounds the show and we don’t count those people. We haven’t kept track of the attendance on that, but otherwise if we take out two other theaters that are New York Comic Con venues, your New York Comic Con ticket gets you into those venues.

So it would take some people off the floor, theoretically?
It would and it would spread the crowds a little bit.  I don’t think we would do anything with our ticket sales numbers, meaning we wouldn’t sell more if we spread out, at least not in the first year.  After a year or two if we are in 10 venues, spread out all over Manhattan, then I think we would certainly be looking at our ticket sale numbers and what we think is appropriate.

Before New York Comic Con, there were concerns raised about artists in artist alleys using intellectual property that they may not have rights to and whether there would be a crackdown. Did anything happen at this show related to this issue?

Not to my knowledge. We always work closely with our partners, and anyone that has a concern about the legitimacy of content we investigate it and we have a pretty clearly defined policy which is we don’t have to give anyone a second chance or a warning.  If there is a concern about the legitimacy or rights to content, that we can substantiate, we deal with that pretty seriously.  And we self-police as well, but nothing was floated up from any of our customers saying ‘please be more aggressive’ or ‘we want to go check’ or anything like that.

There has been growth in the number and size of shows with some consolidations and some players beyond Reed rolling up some of these shows. What’s your feeling of where we are on the curve, on the maturity level, of the geek culture show business in North America?
On one hand I would say the market for these sorts of events is starting to saturate; however fans will go to a show every weekend if it’s a cool show. I think the saturation is more so on the side of content and by content, I mean exhibitors, brands, guests, studios.  They don’t need that many shows.  If you can create a compelling event without relying on brands and guests and that content, fans will come, but it’s got to be a cool show.  So I say it’s consolidating, but with a bit of a caveat there. I also think consolidation is not done; in fact it will probably accelerate in some places. You’re going to see probably a handful of entities that will hold the majority of the larger events, would be my prediction.

So it comes down to how many shows can Norman Reedus do?

Or how many shows does Marvel really want or really need to promote to the fan base? Or pick any brand-Activision, same question.  The other side, the dealer guys, whether they’re selling comics or toys or videogames, they’ll go to any show where there’s an audience that they can sell product to. Fans don’t want to pay a ticket price to come in to spend money. There needs to be content that is engaging, exciting and unique.  And there’s a limited quantity on that.

ReedPOP has been doing more shows around the world. Are there more opportunities for growth outside the U.S. than inside?
Yes.  In fact ReedPOP now has more events outside the U.S. than we do inside the U.S. They’re smaller events because they’re younger but it’s a little more open in the rest of the world. There again, you’re starting to see larger entities, one in particular that’s being very aggressive entering the space and acquiring the events in Europe in particular. That will consolidate a little more quickly I would think. There’s a proven model that these organizations can look at and say this is a good marketplace, and they’ll be more aggressive about entering.

Who’s rolling up in Europe?
It’s a European company called Artexis Easyfairs. They’ve been aggressively acquiring some businesses in Europe.

What was the best of your worldwide or newer shows in 2015?
Interestingly it was Vienna. Vienna, Paris, Shanghai were all launched last year. Both Paris and Vienna were really strong; they both sold out of tickets in advance, that we capped. Vienna, which we started from scratch, just had a really, really great vibe.  It was a really well built show. I’m really proud of it.  It was like ‘the little show that could’ and did.

So when a member of RP mentions in an interview that news for NYCC is coming out in the upcoming weeks and they’ve made changes and decisions, some of which may upset a smaller amount of fans for the greater good, does that interpret to VIPs for anyone else…

nope. sounds like comic book artists, and indie books will be on the "outs". unless they can pay the top dollar rates for floor space.  the potential for a party in the vip room (which is yet unrealized) is too great in my view. also, the vip tickets could see a increase in price.

edit: pax south did not sell out.

I have a logistics question. NYCC is expanding for the BookCon and maybe the Hammerstein and possibly other places as well. This is an effort to get people in different places and free up space on the show floor and is likely a strategy to allow them to sell more tickets.

Lets say for example there is a time where enough people decide they want to be on the show floor that it becomes a fire hazard. Will they limit people allowed into the Javit’s?

If the Fire Marshal determines that they are over capacity they would stop letting people in. I went to a convention where that happened once. Never went to that convention again and the company eventually went out of business. But i would hope that the new venues they are adding is not an attempt to sell more tickets and just an attempt to reduce the crowds on the floor at the Javitz center. I would hope Reed pop does not use the new venues as an excuse to sell more tickets then the capacity of the Javitz center. If reed pop gets that greedy and oversells tickets beyond the capacity of the Javitz center and that causes people to be not let in they will have a lot of angry attendees. No convention should ever oversell tickets beyond the capacity of the venue they are using. If i was ever not let into any convention due to it being over the capacity of the venue that would be the last time i would be attending that convention.  And i hope others would do the same, otherwise they would have no reason to not oversell and basically rob people of the money they paid for a ticket since not everyone who paid would be able to get in.

just noticed this in relation to celebration:
Fans will be limited to two wristbands (two Celebration Stage panels) per day, while supplies last.

huh? that seems like something not quite right to me, wonder if they would test this out at nycc

This is going to be my first NYCC, I managed to get tickets for all days.  I was wondering though, for the best chances to get a wristband to get into a panel (for me it would be Ash vs Evil Dead if they do it again this year)  how early would I have to be in line?  Would it be camping out?  I know I am way early on asking, I was just curious, trying to gather some info before I get bogged down on college classes once it starts in a few weeks.  XD

Only the main stage requires wristbands.  Last year, Ash v. Evil Dead was at the Hammerstein Ballroom a couple blocks away.  It had its own line.  So it depends where the panel is.  Main Stage, get there before the doors open to line up for a wristband.  Empire stage, they don't clear panels in between, so maybe get there a panel or two beforehand.  Hammerstein Ballroom, not sure how early to get there.

I went last year and since it was the surprise premiere they cleared it out before hand.  They also had a large break before if I remember correctly.   We lined up a  bit before the panel but definitely not hours before it and got in just fine.  The NYCC crowd didn't seem like they were into panels that much and as long as you weren't dying to be in the front you could get into almost anything right before.  Walking Dead and Game of Thrones may be different but I couldn't be there that day.

You should get to almost all panels at least a bit early. Gauge it based on how popular you anticipate it being. The main stage is it's own deal, you have to line up early, but for other panels just know that the empire stage is huge but it does sometimes fill up, and that most other rooms are pretty small and can fill fast if a panel is popular, for most things I usually start to line up at least half an hour before.

For the empire stage, something potentially popular, you want to get in there at least for the panel beforehand.  I know last year it was a full house for the Warner TV panel.  Main Stage they clear out between panels, everything else they generally don't.  That said, I don't know what the policy is at Hammerstein since that was in a completely separate building.

Anyone else having immense trouble with the show planner? The app works fine (once it's updated to add new panels) but every time I try to start one on the website I end up ragequitting. I log in, go to the panels page, click to add a panel to my calendar, and it asks me to log in. I do so, try again, and it asks me to log in again. I haven't ever found a way to actually save a panel.

I was looking for the same thing.  It looks like it is time to bite the bullet and pay to get Stan Lee to sign my Marvel Masterworks Captain America 1.  On the NYCC website it says that you have to pay for autos in cash which makes it seem like you have to do it at the show.

Con Intel: NYCC — New process for NYCC’s Main Stage

By: DRWHO42

ReedPOP announced new details for the process of gaining entry to the Main Stage at this year’s New York Comic Con.

Here are the key points:
— Room clearing is still in effect.
— Wristbands are gone. Your badge will serve as your “pass” for entry to the Main Stage.
— To enter to the Main Stage panel will use your badge to “tap in”.
— The morning queue process will remain and in order to gain your “pass” into the room your badge must be scanned while in the queue chute of your desired panel. There will be five (5) Main stage panels each day, as noted by ReedPOP, and there will be five queue chutes for attendees to lineup. Once the queue team is ready to process badges each attendee will have their badge scanned. Room capacity will be monitored and when the line reaches capacity, it will be capped.

http://friendsofcc.com/2016/09/17/con-intel-nycc-new-process-for-nyccs-main-stage/

the great thing abt this is folks who tap in to the chute in the morning KNOW they can get into the room.... there is no more guessing where the end of the line is.

Yeah. I really don't think there will be any camping out, at the Javits. However, for Saturday for TWD panel at MSG. That's a different story. The temperature is going to drop at night.

To be honest there is really no need for camp outs at NYCC. They processed wristbands in a delayed manner so overnighting was not much of a value-add. Get some sleep and arrive early is my recommendation.

Other studios, like Warner Bros. Television, frown at talent accepting payment for appearing at events. (Sources say WBTV pulled out of New York Comic-Con after organizers wanted to pay a handful of their stars.)

I believe NYCC is technically a bigger con compared to SDCC (in terms of number of attendees) however SDCC's close proximity to Los Angeles allows for more star power, bigger booths, etc. Getting a massive booth transported from Burbank to San Diego is a lot easier than getting the same booth from Burbank to NYC.

With that said, I like how NYCC isn't as hyped as San Diego is, it makes for a more casual and fun event imo!

It will/most likely to rain on Saturday. And some people are worried about Hurricane Matthew touching down during NYCC but I get the feeling it'll touch down (or maybe go out to sea) the day after the con. We'll see

I am not sure if it is me, but is NYCC about the same as SDCC?  From the impression I have been getting it is not as popular as SDCC like the panels/events/exclusives?  Maybe it is just that I have not been paying attention.  This is my first time going to NYCC and it just seems like there is not much hype compared to SDCC.

All my years of going to NYCC (sorta noticed this for last couple yrs)....one year there can be high profile panels and the next....not so much. I noticed there's more movie panels presence this year compared to last....the year before that had that etc.  The number of TV panels seem to be growing each year. Personally....I'm amazed at how much NYCC has grown from it's first year (it was sharing Javits Space with NY Times Travel or something lol) to now attracting people, major comic book publishers/people, major entertainment guests/projects, media outlets, etc.

This is the reason i really don't like NYCC having so many panels in other places outside the Javitz Center. If everything is in one place and the weather is bad  at last once you get in to the building you don't have to worry about going anyplace else. New York is not like San Diego where the weather is almost alway nice. You never know what the weather will be like in New York especially in October. The Garden and the Hammerstein are still a nice walk from the Javitz center and if the weather is bad it will be a miserable walk. Last year I went to the Walking Dead thing at the Garden in the evening and the walk from the Javitz center to the Garden was horrible because it was pouring rain out. I know you can take the Bus but you will have to stand outside waiting for the bus which doesn't really help much with avoiding bad weather. I also don't think the Subway goes direct to any place near the other venues so it would involve walking and/or transfers which depending on the time could take a lot of time.
I'm just not a fan of multiple venues.

and iirc the hammerstein will not allow you to bring in your umbrella so keep that in the back of your mind or food and drink (which I think is a bit of a sham as you are allowed food into NYCC and if this is an extension of NYCC then same rules should apply)

I have a feeling that the ban on umbrellas/food/drink is a building policy and not something that reed pop can do any thing about. Well, i suppose RP could not use the venue of course.

I was just gonna say that....those rules seem to more of a venue thing than RP. I get the feeling the agreement between RP and Hammerstein & Theater/MSG is "you can use our venue for NYCC as long as the attendees abide by these rules." I mean there are specific cosplay guidelines/rules for Theater/MSG.

Yet another reason to not like having things in multiple venues. Having different rules on what you can bring to the different venues is really annoying. What if i bring stuff that is allowed at the Javitz like an umbrella or food but then want to go see a panel at the Hammerstein or the Garden. What am i supposed to do with the stuff they wont let into those venues.

I personally don't mind if its rainy and cold (hate hot/humid weather) nor the offsites. I mean the convention keeps growing year after year so it seemed inevitable they go offsite. Yeah surely it's a "walk" (not with me because of NYCCFit :)) and you have to plan accordingly. I'm just glad...in all my years of going to NYCC...no severe weather has gotten so bad that it would discourage from me and others traveling into NYC for NYCC. It could've happened when they had the con in February several times (blizzards/snowstorms) but nope....just chilly winter weather :)

With Hammerstein last year...just left my food/drink and umbrella outside on the steps. Yeah you take a chance if something happens to your stuff....but fortunately my stuff was still there after the panel.

Well I'm just thinking that since they're not clearing between panels, if one is spending almost all day at Hammerstein (or MSG) and they don't sell anything to eat or drink, and you can't bring it in either ... that's rough.

If I remember correctly, they did sell food at Hammerstein last year, but it was bare minimum, like chips/pretzels/hot dogs and some drinks. I vaguely remember stuffing a soft pretzel in my face before the Mr. Robot panel.

I would guess they sell food and that's probably the reason they don't let you bring in your own food so they can make you buy their overpriced stuff.

I didn't make it to Hammerstein last year but are you not even allowed a backpack?
I figure you can put umbrella, food etc in your backpack and bring it in.

I plan to see the "Ash Evil Dead" panel at the Hammerstein Thursday morning at 11.  Can I just go direct to the Hammerstein without stopping off at the Javits first?  I know you can go to The Theatre @ Madison Square Garden without having to go to the Javits.

Yeah, go straight to Hammerstein. You only need to line up at Javits for stuff at Javits.

They are not making people in the main stage panels wait until 10 like they did before in order to get your badge tapped (at least not today). You also get a confirmation email once your badge is tapped for a main stage panel.

Are you allowed to tap for more than one badge for the main badge (like if my friend wasn't there could I register her badge for a main stage "ticket" as well)?  I'm guessing the answer is no, but just wanted to make sure.

Also, for Iron Fist how early would I need to get there to get a ticket?  Thanks!

Today/Friday is different, they are making us wait to get our main stage taps. Right now it's 9, I wonder if they'll wait like they normally do until 10 to start.

Also new today, everyone is getting  wanded after you tap into the Javits.

I'm really not sure about how this line to get into the theater at the garden is going to work. they won't let people in till 930 and they are only letting in 20 people at a time because everyone has to have their bags checked and empy their pockets and go through the metal detector. i have no idea how they expect  to do all that and get everyone on in by the time the panel starts at 1030. they didnt have this type of security at SDCC. i guess we will see how well this works but if they do want this much Security they really need to start letting people in earlier.

I know it's a venue rule, Just like the no outside food or beverage rule. But in my opinion the venue rules don't work well with the type of event that NY Comic Con is. MSG's rules work fine for an event like a concert that lasts 2 hours and has people coming in at staggered times. Comic con is different. Everyone is trying to get in at the same time first thing and many people are spending the whole day in the room. It's really annoying to have to buy the overpriced food and beverage if you are spending the whole day. And i really found it annoying that they took off the cap from all drinks and wouldn't give them to me. It's annoying to keep things from spilling without the cap. I guess we will see how it goes Saturday with what i expect to be a much larger crowd and line to get in but i think the main reason today went well is that the venue never really filled up. It actually had a more staggered entry like a concert then the typical comic con panels like those at SDCC. Maybe and hopefully i'll be proven wrong tomorrow.

I got around that by bringing my own bottle cap from home.  Seriously!

Not at the Hammerstein Ballroom - I've never attended any event there, NYCC-related or not.  But Giants Stadium used to have a policy of keeping the caps from bottled drinks as well.  I remember one Bruce Springsteen concert at Giants Stadium in 2003 (I think) where it was a good thing I brought my own cap, because I had bought a bottle of water from the concession stands.  I had put my bottle on the floor next to me - no cupholders back in those days - but with all the standing and jumping and such that you can expect at a Springsteen show, when I reached down to take a drink I found the bottle was on its side!  If I didn't use my own cap, the water would have spilled out and the money I paid for it - not cheap - gone to waste.

Another tip for the Theater at MSG. You can sneak in food, by doing this. Putting it on your person in an available large pocket. When you go through the metal detector, if you don't go off, then, you won't be wanded.

I sneaked in a sandwich, which was a blessing.
