Under the NYCC FAQ's it says something to the effect of only 1 item per person for signing. How well is that enforced? Cause ive seen guys roll up with like 50 comics and get all of them signed. I was planning on keeping it to 2 books per person but after reading that im going the 1 book route. And theres some tough choices to make!!
Title: Re: NYCC Guests and Artists
Post by: YouThinkMeMad on June 22, 2013, 05:20:59 PM
The signings that's talking about is more or less booth and network related signings. Most artists who are there will sign as many comics as you want if they have their own table. That's why you see people with a ton of comics.

Ok cool :) Thanks for the fast reply!!
Title: Re: NYCC Guests and Artists
Post by: YouThinkMeMad on June 22, 2013, 05:26:08 PM
Like, if "Arrow" had a signing it would be one item/auto per person. But if Skottie Young has his own table in Artist Alley (he was at C2E2, no plans for NYCC) he could sign as many as he wanted. I know some though ask for a small donation towards CBDLF if you have over a certain amount.

Yeah George Perez has done that before. Ask you to throw a couple bucks in the The Hero Initiative. Great cause and one i dont mind contributing to.

After reading about how early you gotta stand in lines im not even gonna tray and make any panels. Im gonna concentrate on trying to get signatures on about 30 trades i plan on bringing!
Title: Re: NYCC Guests and Artists
Post by: YouThinkMeMad on June 24, 2013, 05:39:23 AM
Not every panel has long lines. Does the IGN Theater? Yes, because that's the "Hall H" if you will of NYCC. There were even some instances where I was able to walk right in, like for Haven. Plus they have a fair amount of smaller panels too.

I was on the site The daily Dead and they have all the cons that castmembers for TWD are gonna be at and they had for NYCC "Guest list has not been announced but is likely to include main cast,Kirkman and Adlard" Its not official but if i had to guess i would say they will probably be in attendence since the new season debuts that Sunday night.
Now i just need to start planning how im gonna get everybodys signature on my Vol 1 compendium and HC. Stand in line with a parka and a bottle of no-doze probably LOL!

Robert Kirkman will be at NYCC, according to this press release. Very likely that the Walking Dead cast will be there as well:

Quote
Building on the success of the 2012 'Hyundai Undead' marketing campaign for the 2013 Elantra Coupe, the initiative gives The Walking Dead fans the opportunity to outfit their own zombie survival machine through an interactive app and accompanying website: walkingdeadchopshop.com. The program also allows fans to enter their designs into a contest over the coming months and the winning design, selected by Kirkman, will be built into a real car that Kirkman will unveil at New York Comic-Con in October 2013.

That is a big claim to live up to. I hope they live up to it but i always think companies need to be careful when making such huge claims. To redefine convention history they are going to have to bring out some huge A list talent that doesn't usually do any conventions or signings. Maybe someone like a Harrison Ford. Hope they do it but i think they are setting themselves up for fan disappointment and backlash. I really do hope I am wrong as i would love to see some really big names.

I think CA might have Chris Hemsworth for NYCC. They brought him to C2E2 a few years ago, before the first Thor movie came out.

Well, that would go together with what Brian was tweeting. I know they were working very hard to try and get a Thor panel.

That would be cool but they are going to have to come up with a lot more then that to live up to the claim of redefining convention history. Chris Hemsworth has done conventions before. He was at wizard world Philadelphia in i think 2012.

redefining would mean getting something like getting the opportunity to take a photo with the cast of Star Wars battling the cast of Star Trek in their costumes

if it's multiple people then it's gotta be a Cast of some type

Who's big?
Agreed the GotG would be big in the Geek set but not so sure abt it pulling in Entertainment weekly....

Cast of Avengers has been done (not to say imply i wouldn't geek out)

Cast of the Hobbit? Enders game? Thor? Hunger Games?

or <gasp> Ron Howard & the cast of the Dark Tower with a new backer?
^^^ yeah, wishful thinking on my part^^^

could still be a hunger games or Hobbit panel at NYCC, just not tomorrows announcement. I'm holding out for those two until the last panel is slotted, just cause it is not announced tomorrow does not mean it can't be announced.

As for tomorrow, maybe something Star Wars related could be unexpected. Other than that I wrent to IMDB to check out some upcoming (late 2013 and 2014 movies) so could suggest Amazing Spiderman 2 but they were at SDCC, Transformers 4, Fast and Furious 7,

Harrison Ford, could be one of the guests. He's in Paranoia this comes out this weekend. He's got Ender's Game in November. And he will be in Anchorman 2 and Expendables 3.

I was thinking Bale before. But I just learned he's going filming Exodus in Spain this fall.

We will update everyone tomorrow and are hoping to be able to announce soon. We have to wait for the full list featuring our first 4 guests as it ties into a Press Release that will reach millions. We promise, it will be well worth the wait!"

I find it odd that they would announce a date that they would announce the guests without getting everything in order first. They picked the date. Why not wait till they get all the approvals and then just announce the guests. If the guests are that good no need to build up hype for the announcement. I actually find the whole announcement that we will announce the guest on a certain date kind of odd. To me it is a setup for disappointment.  You give people time to think of all the guests they would want to see and when they do announce the guests it's almost impossible to live up to peoples now outrageous expectations. Why not just announce the guests when ready without the pre-hype about the announcement.
The other thing i always heard is that you never want to announce a date for something then miss that date. You just annoy and loose the confidence of your customers.
Hopefully the guests they announce live up to the hype. I guess we will see.

I agree, that CA should have should everything ready before hyping so much.. But it happening more often, in every industry. An announcement of an announcement coming on this day or whatever. So as long it lives up to the hype, I don't think a one-day delay will hurt them.

From that statement last night though, it seemed to me that an announcement today was uncertain. Hopefully, Brian can gives update this morning. At least we know it's for 4 guests.

Hey Gang! Sorry for the delayed big announcement. We are trying to work everything out. We will never announce anyone without a signed contract. We didn't pick the date for the announcement and we are trying to resolve everything as quickly as possible. I can guarantee you that it will be worth the wait. In the meantime we do have some other great announcements set for this week. Hopefully we can make the big announcement of the four guests that was planned for last week happen at some point this week. We are frustrated too but sometimes these things happen. Rest assured that there are tons of big announcements coming over the next few weeks including the one that was supposed to happen on the 15th. Stay tuned and I will keep you posted as much as I can.

There are always a few every year that don't seem to make complete sense.  In the end though the list ends up so packed that a lot of the non relevant or barely so actors just get buried in the list.  Not that I mean to knock him too hard.  I've enjoyed a lot of things he has been in.  Wouldn't pay for his autograph, but have enjoyed a lot of his work.  He could also make more sense once other announcements are made.  There also are some talent that come from left field and end up making someone's show.  Last year I was confused and shocked that Kirk Hammett from Metallica was a guest.  Once I verified all the details I was completely ecstatic.  Saturday of last NYCC is the coolest day for meeting celebrities ever for me.  In one day I got to meet, get an autograph from, and shake hands with one of my favorite living musicians and not one hour later I got to do the same with the cast of The Walking Dead.  Who knows maybe Andrew McCarthy will make someone else's show.

But wouldn't that defeat the purpose of having a signed contract.

Brian said they don't announce anything without a signed contract which means. That means, while NYCC might have thought everything was good to go, maybe the talent didn't, hence the delay. Just an idea.

Brian said they don't announce anything without a signed contract which means. That means, while NYCC might have thought everything was good to go, maybe the talent didn't, hence the delay. Just an idea.

But someone came up with and announced the date for the announcement without having signed contracts in hand. It seems like it was Celebrity Authentics who set the date for the announcement without having everything in order first but it seems like someone from NYCC went with the date they were given without confirming that Celebrity Authentics had everything in order first.

My problem isn't that they missed the date but it's that it give me a lack in confidence in that they will be able to provide what they say they will. This is more directed at Celebrity Authentics. If i do decide i want to get autographs with the guests they announce are they going to be able to keep to the schedule they set. Are they going to give a time for a signing so i skip doing something else i wanted to do but then the time gets moved at the last minute or they make us wait in line and then end up canceling because they didn't have everything in order.

As I mentioned before...sometimes these things happen and announcements get delayed at the 11th hour. I really can't get into any further details other than the info that I already gave above. Please know that everything will be announced well ahead of the show. This includes signing times, photo times, costs, panel appearances and times, etc etc. We had a little hiccup with the big announcement we wanted to make last week. We are working out the details now and hope to make the big announcement from last week asap. We want to share it with you as much as all of you want to know what it is. I think you will all be very happy. Until we can get that announcement out we have many more big announcements to share and there are more coming this week. I have said it before and I will say it again...this will be the biggest and best NYCC of all time. Trust me! When we have announcements 100% signed we will share them with you. Keep the faith as we have plenty of time before the show and we have so much incredible content coming this year. Stay tuned.

Celebrity Authentics facebook updates. Seems like they will announce their guests by Friday and there might be more than first four. Most guests will also appear for only one day:

"We are looking at this Friday as the deadline and we will announce those we can. We are now also working on three new guests as well."

"Most guests will be one day only appearances and each day will have different guests. Saturday tickets are still available from the NYCC Retailers such as Mid-Town Comics (see the full list of retailers on the NYCC site under Tickets)"

Theres names that are on the artist alley list that arent on the who's coming list. Does that mean they will be added to the who's coming page or that they are gonna be flying under the radar? Also when can we expect to see what booth will each artist be at? Like Adam Hughes will be seated at AA-123 for example

Their box office site is still up. So I'm assuming it's still on. But I wouldn't be surprised if go another week without an announcement. Their ticket sales don't begin until Sept. 5th. Overall, the delays and no updates, have me less enthused.

In the meantime, though I think we will be getting some other guest announcements this week from NYCC. Maybe as early as today.

Yeah my enthusiasm has went out the window lol! Some guest announcements this week would be cool. What would be even more cool is if they would list the floor plan soon. I got a lot of books i want to get signed and got to finish strategizing.

This was half of the big announcement that was planned for the 15th and didn't happen. We still have some more big secrets up our sleeves that we will share sometime in the next two weeks. Hope you all are happy with these two guests! There is SO much more to come.

Was Expendables 3 filming in Bulgaria last week holding up this announcement?

Nope! The other two big guests that we have not been able to announce yet were not involved with Expendables.

Stallone has "Escape Plan" on  Oct. 18 too. Perhaps will see screening for that too?

For me Stallone and Montez and nice guests but no way live up to the hype from Celebrity Authentics. Remember, they claimed they were going to redefine convention history. Montez was at SDCC and Stallone did an offsite event at SDCC so it's not like they never do any type of conventions.
They are nice additions and if they didn't build up the hype so much maybe I would be more excited.

Stallone is huge for NYCC and Brian said this was only half the original announcement. I think we have take SDCC out of the equation. As they are pretty much only the only con that gets A-list actors.

Thinking about it wasn't Montez at NYCC last year. And NYCC has gotten some big names before. They had the whole cast of the avengers except RDJ in 2011. And they routinely get big names from TV.

It's not that i think Stallone isn't a big name to get. It's just that for me his announcement just doesn't live up to the hype they created by saying they were going to redefine convention history. And that's why i think it was bad move to hype up the announcement so much. With less pre-hype i would probably be more excited.

Montez became popular after Kick Ass 2 and was there last year for Carrie. I like her. But I agree she doesn't live up to the hype at all.

I agree about the hype. Both guests are great additions but nothing I'd get super worked up over. Then again I won't really get excited unless something from Marvel is announced. lol

Obama would be about the farthest thing from my expectations.
But seriously it would have to be something like maybe Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hammil, and George Lucas doing photo ops together, maybe Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddelston, Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins doing photo ops together. Maybe Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg and Zoe Saldana together. I could keep going but this is more in line with what i would think of when they raised the bar so high by making super hyped up claims.

Again I'm not saying Stallone is not a good guest. I think he is a great guest, just not the mind blowing guest i was thinking of based on the hype.
I'l probably even look into doing a photo op if they offer one with him if the price isn't super crazy expensive.
Title: Re: NYCC Guests and Artists

I see what he is saying though, what is the greatest announcement for one convention goer may not be the most exciting news for another. Peoples expectations are wide and varied as to what makes a good show.

That said it is still early and plenty of time to announce. When Brian and I were talking at the Heros meet up the one take away I got is that there will be something for everyone. So really I'm reserving judgement until the final card is in place. Assuming they get such a wide variety that really does encompass a tremendous amount of areas then yes it could be a great show.

Just stay tuned....we have so many more announcements to make. Keep the faith. There is a ton of stuff coming. We just have to wait on bios, headshots, signed contracts, press releases, etc. That is why you see announcements spaced out and in waves. It is also why you see such a big flurry of huge names right before the show. Stay tuned as there is so much more coming that you will all love. Also, as far as the mind blowing part and all of the hype around the Celebrity Authentics announcement. Just remember that this was only half of what the original announcement was going to be. There are two other guests that we are still waiting on and they are really huge guests that will surprise people. The two today are incredible but please don't think that they are all that is coming.

Brian I really appreciate you braving the message board to keep providing information. I know that you guys really can't annouce things for a while, and I think back in 2011, Tom Hiddleston wasn't even annouced until 2 or 3 weeks before the con. I'm really hoping for some Thor stuff (please Chris Hemsworth), but I know a great deal of it is currently out of your hands.

I am so looking forward to other annoucements, though!

I don't really expect all that. It's just that when someone makes a claim that they are going to reinvent convention history that is a big claim to live up to. That's my only problem with the announcement. CA made a huge claim plus missed two dates they said they were going to announce the guests. So they hyped it up then made everyone wait even longer and in my opinion announced two good guests but nothing mind blowing or history making.
I don't want to sound like Mr negative but when a company makes a huge claim and makes huge hype for an announcement they should expect some negativity if they don't really live up to the claim.
Maybe when/if they announce the other names they are supposed to be getting my opinion will change.

I expect to have the second best show ever this year.  Considering my best show ever was last year and that was made by having an amazing show and on Saturday over the course of two hours I got to meet and get autographs from Kirk Hammett (Metallica fan since the original line up was still new) and the cast of the Walking Dead.  I am open minded that this could be the best ever, but even second best will be an absolutely amazing show.  I have never been disappointed by a NYCC show and until now they have gotten better every year for me.  The only reason I say until now is because last year was the best.  Feel free to shock me and make this the best ever Brian.  Oh yeah and Lance gave me a hug last year at the end of the day Saturday when I told him I had been going to shows for the last 26 years and he personally played a hand in my best day ever at a show.

@zucko - That is the problem because CA said we will announce X day but because contract negotiations or whatever they couldn't announce on day X. That does not mean that those two people will not eventually be announced, and they still may not live up to your expectations. Personally I think if you have your tickets just sit back enjoy the announcements as they are announced, I think there is still time for some big names.

To me big exhibitors are my draw and they have not announced any at all, but I assume when all is said and done some things will fit into place. But even if one or two exhibitors I really want to be there aren't I'll still find other things to make the show awesome. Gotta just remember you are going to have a good time and that is how you make it.

@Joe - Yup last year was the best by far. Lance was amazing and it was great that he actually took the time to speak to us. I sent him a nice thank you note after the show, he is very approachable.

I'm not worried at all. I am so sure this is going to be a great show this year i got the ultimate access VIP package even though it was kind of expensive and no guests/panels were announced when tickets went on sale. My complaints were really just for the discussion.
And from what i am hearing CA is going to be charging a crazy price for autographs and photo ops so no matter who they bring i am most likely not going to do it.  I'm hoping people are wrong but i'm hearing Stallone $395 autograph $450 photo op. I sure hope that's wrong but it's probably right. At SDCC photo ops with Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny together were $200. Which i thought was kind of expensive but not super crazy but $450 for a photo with just Stallone would be crazy to me. I guess we will see.

We are still 6 weeks away. What's you see announced already, is only a small fraction of who/what is going to be there. And the biggest entertainment guest/panel announcements usually come within 2 or 3 weeks of the show.

Hey gang! I'm really glad you had a good experience at NYCC last year. Lance is a great guy and big hugger. Glad you got to experience a Lance Hug. It's probably of the same value as a Stallone autograph! We have tons of stuff to announce and things are coming in at a very rapid pace. There is definitely more studio content than we have had in the past. You will see announcements from us every Tuesday and Thursday from now until NYCC. We try to always make announcements on those days and usually between 12-1pm EST. We will throw in additional announcements on other days as they get confirmed. I know you are all going to be very happy!

The only other thing I would as is that we are all fans too! I 100% guarantee you that everything that you would want to see we have tried to get. We know what every fan wants to see at our shows and we do always shoot for the moon when it comes to guests. We have a running joke that if we were able to get even 25% of what we try for it would be the greatest show of all time. Rest assured that we have tried for everything that you could think of and we have had some good success for this years show.

Man, obviously what people may be saying on FB is wrong, but given some people have called CA about prices for autographs/photos with Chloe and Sylvester...yeah, I won't be doing either of those. 100$-400$ for photo ops just is crazy to me, especially since most are in the 50-60$ range. I know that NYCC doesn't really have control over that, but talk about price gouging.

Didn't Stallone recently go off on Bruce Willis for being greedy for wanting too much money to be in the next Expendables movie. Whose the greedy one now. Either Stallone is charging such an outrageous appearance fee and that's why the price is so high or he is allowing himself to be associated with a company that is charging an outrageous price to his fans. Either way i think he comes off looking bad and like the greedy one.

For $400, I would expect to be allowed to make out with Stallone.

This. I better get a ton more than just a photo/signature.

Hey gang! Celebrity Authentics sets the prices for the autographs and photos. We don't control or determine that on our end. It is still TBD if they will be participating on panels at the show. We are trying our best to make that happen and we will let you know as soon as we do.

Yeah I figured it wasn't anything you guys can control. Hopefully they will be willing to a panel at least.

Actually Stallone autograph was supposed to be $39 and photo op was $45; Brian himself just added the extra digits at the end and is planning on not telling anyone :p

I feel the same way, charging that much for his signature is crazy. Granted of the success that he has but, it is suppose to be a fan experience where we can do many affordable things, not blow it all on one thing. I could of seen him costing like 100- 150 but thats it.

You might not be able to control what Celebrity Authentics charges but you could choose not to be associated with a company that is charging those insane prices. I know some convention organizers who will not book certain bigger name guest because they charge too much of an appearance fee and too much for autographs. It would force the convention to charge the fans too much for tickets and they also don't want to see the fans charged the insane prices that some of these stars demand for autographs/photo ops.
Just my opinion and i'm sure others will disagree which is fine.

It boils down to the same answer though, ultimately it is your money. If you feel it is too much then don't spend it.

Yes the prices are beyond what I would pay, but if they also get him to do a panel while he is there that would be part of your ticket and something the masses could enjoy. One side of the coin of having him there is the high price for the auto or photo, the other side might be a panel that many could equally enjoy. just my $0.02

Celebrity Authentics tickets go sale today at 11am EST. They are currently working on their ticket site. I asked them if more guests will be announced when tickets go sale. This was their response overnight:

"Hi Miguel, we are very close to announcing 2-4 more guests but they may be a day or two after the tickets go live as we await final confirmations. Thanks."

So I take from that, and Brian said before, we might see more guests announced to sometime today thru Saturday. Either unrelated or related to Celebrity Authentics.

CA also just confirmed on their FB, that Chloe Moretz will only be there on Sunday. Autograph is $75.

They ticket sales are up:

http://www.celebrityauthenticstickets.com/

It's pretty much the prices we've heard before

Stallone is $395 for an autograph and $445 for an photo op.
Moretz is $75 for an autograph and $95 for a photo op.

Both are only appearing on Sunday.  They are also doing mail orders.

Celebrity Authentics says Stallone tickets are already half sold out.

Btw this probably won't change your minds about charging high. But some of the money tickets is going to a charity. According to the website:

"A portion of the proceeds from each ticket is being donated to www.RideOn.org, a non-profit organization that teaches horseback riding to children and adults with disabilities to improve specific medical conditions."

He's also not shaking any hands:

"Please note: Due to his filming schedule, in an effort not to catch cold or flue there will be no handshaking.  Thank you for your understanding.'

So if you pay $450 for the photoop is there a distance between the two of you. Do you actually get to stand in the same frame with him or is the photo op you telling him how to pose.

No that is bulls**t. Someone of that body type who works out should have a high immune system. It's the same reason I work out more before going to a con to avoid con plague. A person would have to have a serious disease to get him sick.

At least the tickets are being sold by a 3rd party website so people don't have more fingers to point at reedpop.

Still waiting for Celebrity Authentics to announce more guests. The responses on their facebook page, suggest they are waiting for 4 more guests to either confirm their schedules or be released from filming commitments. However, if you closely enough one of tickets behind Stallone, you can see Liam McIntyre from tv show "Spartacus". Again he's not been announced/confirmed yet:

Random question:  Forgive me for asking, but aren’t Stallone/Weaver/Moretz gajillionaires anyway?  Do they actually need the money?  I can understand a nominal fee to keep the rif raf away, but these prices seem ridiculous high.

Adam Hughes does sketches for a $10 donation that he gives to an animal shelter or something and he is less rich than they are.  Stan Lee charged something like $200 for 10 fans to have an hour to sit and an talk with him, but they got a shared hour.

I’m just shocked at the prices these guys are charging.

The price for Moretz is actually pretty average as far as convention prices go. I've paid $60 before for Spike from Buffy. So really, she's kinda on par with everyone else.

Hoenstly, Stallone is the highest price I've seen for an autograph/photo.

I agree it's very high. But I don't think all the prices coming from them directly or they getting all the money.  It costs Celebrity Authentics to bring them, and they are probably trying to recover the costs and profit from it. Some of the money maybe going to charities that celebs sponsor as well.

I remember many people where upset, when it was announced that Bruce Campbell will charge $40 for autographs, a few years ago at NYCC. Now that seems cheap, compared to what prices some other charging now. It seems to be an increasing trend.

and he only does commissions via Ebay now for conventions because of issues with reselling, and those can go for $500 or more.

This I get because the person gets original art.

I did not know that.  Thanks.  In his panel, he was talking about having to do the occasional cover while penciling whole books to “pay the bills.”  I guess he can also do an appearance.  :)

I guess I muddied the waters by including comic book examples.  :)   I don’t have a dog in this fight as I am not a big autograph guy, I’m just surprised they charge so much.

From what I've seen, $40 to $60 is common now for autographs, usually more to get photos with them (professionally, not at their booth). But some of the prices I'm seeing for "bigger" celebs like Stallone and even Ms. Weaver are just too much for me.  :P It's cool, I suppose, that they're doing the show, though.

Now Norman Reedus & Michael Rooker from The Walking Dead, for example, still only charge $40 or so for autographs and/or professionally done pictures. (For now.) So not all celebs charge outrageous prices. (Thank goodness.)

Celebrity Authentics told someone on their facebook page, that Moretz, Stallone, and Weaver were their final three guests for NYCC. So I don't expect anymore names from them.

I consider the individual prices very reasonable

Tiogether is a bit pricey but I wouldn't call it out of this realm unreasoanble.
