2013 FoCCI Meet Ups Summary

Summarizing the FoCCI meet ups, it appears that there are 4 meet ups in the works:

When: Tues early/mid afternoon (once movie times are posted we'll set a meet up time)
Where: mission valley mall (1640 Camino Del Rio North)
Purpose: To see the Pacific Rim & maybe lunch.

When:  Wed 9am thru ?
Where:  Downtown Broken Yolk Cafe You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login
Purpose:  General meet up, "Rolling table"=first person shows up and gets a a table, as new people show up, and equal amount of people leave the table.

When:  Thursday 7:15 — 9 pm
Where:  Buster's Beach House.  You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login
Purpose:  General Meet Up and Food!  (And maybe light boozing! Be sure to get a cab.)

Since most of these meet ups are first times meeting other folks I would suggest the organizers:
- Pick a time and place close to the convention center as most people are staying downtown.
- Bring reading material or a buddy so the person does not bet bored.
- Say how long you will be there. “I will be there from X pm to Y pm and everyone is welcome to join.”
- Give a “what to look for sign” like “look for he extraordinarily handsome guy in the bright orange shirt.”

Especially if people have never met, it is very difficult to find a place that everyone will like so it better to just pick something and go with it.  The most important aspect of the meet ups is not the food or the ambiance, it’s meeting your fellow nerd-kin!

I'd be up for the swag swap on Sunday. This is a great idea. I always end up wanting some swag that I didn't know about or wasn't able to get after the con has ended.

I don't want to be responsible/head-up the PN meeting because there is no way I am going to be there as early as everyone wants to be there.  So it would be kind of unfair to set it up and not show up.  Hopefully someone else can fill in.

@ Chris - I think we should rebrand the Wednesday morning meetup b/c I do not want to limit it to Singles and Lone Rangers. I will be there at 8:30am but will hang for at least 90 minutes.

We have a place for the Sunday FoCCI meetup! Many thanks to Rando for being the point person on this while I was out of the country. He was able to check out places in person and set up our reservation.

We will be meeting at the Harbor House on Sunday, July 21 at 6 pm. Harbor House is in Seaport Village. To get there, go to the marina behind the convention center and walk along the waterfront. You can also access the walkway from the grass next to the Hilton Bayfront, or by walking through the Marriott Marquis or the Manchester Grand Hyatt.

We will be ordering off of the regular dinner menu, which you can see on their site. If we get enough people (30+) we will have our own private room, which would be great for a swag trade!

There is no cost to come, but you should plan to order something off the menu. The restaurant is kid-friendly and has a kids' menu. The menu is seafood oriented, but there are lots of other choices as well.

It'll be a rolling table so people will be coming in randomly. Check in the thread when you get here to see who's still left. Hopefully people will continue updating.
