If you're new to lyft or the lately controversial uber keep an eye out for incentives. Last year we got a new user credit that covered everything we needed.

Does anyone know about shuttles with the downtown hotels? Only one I know of is the Residence Inn Downtown (the Little Italy one) but while they will take you to the airport I don't know if they would pick you up. (It's not an airport shuttle, just an anywhere-reasonably-close shuttle, pretty cool.)

Uber was great and during the con I got credit that paid for most of my rides. If you need a code let me know.

Hampton Inn Downtown (right next to that Res Inn) has one, and it does pick you up. I used it last year coming and going, and it also picked me up from Balboa Park

I may have to try Lyft. I've always taxi'd, which ends up being around $15-20 to convention center, depending on traffic One time it was way more because of gridlock (Sunday afternoon) and we ended up on the highway to get to the airport.

I don't think any of the big 5 hotels next to the con have shuttles. The smaller ones further out used to have shuttles (like Radisson and Sheraton). Not sure if they still do.

frankly, I will never use a taxi again if lyft is available. my roommate in Orlando is on Uber- our rides to & from the convention center were about the same.

I think the first year my mom came she flew into San Diego and I told her to go to the closest airport hotel (not sure which one) and take the comic con shuttle to the convention center.

Wow, that website is straight out of the 90's.

Some interesting text:

"Green Ride drivers will ALWAYS"
Always... what?

"San Diego Airport by 2030"
So, the drivers will get there by the year 2030?

"Why Some You Bear the Cost.com Transportation Companies are not for everybody "
I... I don't even know how to parse that.

For the past few years I've used SuperShuttle to get from the airport to my downtown hotel or the convention center. I went with a shared van and it cost $8. They usually run promos for SDCC, so you can keep an eye out for that. Last year was my first year staying outside of downtown, so I used Lyft to get from La Jolla to downtown every morning. It cost about $25 per trip. I'm sure Uber is about the same pricing-wise, I just used Lyft because there were more Lyft drivers available in the wee hours of the morning (had to get in that Hall H line!).

My cat and I will be staying at the San Diego Marriott Marquis & Marina.
Wonder if they have free shuttle?

I don't take much room and I can always put my cat in a Tupperware to keep her fresh.

Best to call the hotel directly to ask. There are no guarantees due to the heavy volume of people coming to town.

In my experience, the big hotels don't have shuttles. I recall asking for shuttles for Omni, Bayfront, Manchester Grand Hyatt, and Westin Gaslamp when I had those hotels in years past. What used to be Holiday Inn, now Wyndham Bayside, did have shuttles though.

Uber should not cost anywhere near that unless it's the limo/deluxe service

I used super shuttle every year, including when I stayed at the MMM 2 years ago. It's cheap & on time. You can also track your shuttle on their app.

Yeah, in recent years I've been using Uber. Every time I feel like the driver was new and had no idea what was going on. I'm probably going to use Lyft this year.

Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I just stroll over to the taxi line and I'm in a regular taxi within minutes.   The great thing about San Diego is how short the ride is from the airport to downtown.  I can't recall ever having a long ride.

It all depends on your convenience vs. cost goals.

I'm with you, DKD! The taxis are right there and it's not expensive to go from the airport to downtown.

We usually opt for a taxi, too. Our flight always gets in close to midnight, so it's a reliable option and not crazy pricey.

I stayed at the Residence Inn Downtown last year and they would have picked us up from the airport, but they close their hotel shuttle down at around 10pm if I remember correctly.  They did reimburse us for the cab ride.  I thought that was VERY nice of them!

Take the bus.  There's a line that runs from the airport through downtown.  Normally, it's about a 10 minute ride from the airport to Santa Fe station.

There's an airport stop for the Trolley.  It is at the airport kinda.  It's on the other side of the tarmac from where the terminal buildings are but there's a shuttle.  It's the midtown stop.  You should be able to walk it too.  Often I thought about hoping off there and walking to the terminals before it became the official airport stop.

According to https://www.taxifarefinder.com ...

Estimated fare is $17.12 (including 15% tip) in medium traffic for SAN to the MMM.

Thanks! That isn't too bad. Uber was about $10 there and $6 back. (They have a surcharge for rides originating at the airport, but not drop-offs.)

That seems about right.  I recently had to take a taxi from Old Town to the Gaslamp and it was about $18.  Old Town is further away.  Beware of surge pricing on Uber which can really jump the prices.  It might be pretty surgy during Comic Con.
