And bring on ACEpocalypse!
The parking lottery - is that to park inside the convention center? Is it any cheaper than the $40/day I pay to park at my hotel?

It is cheaper, but you can't leave it there overnight so you would have to figure that out every day. Hotel might be easier.
Here is the info from 2014... http://www.aceparking.com/comic-con/ (http://www.aceparking.com/comic-con/)
-
Last year the convention center was like $15/ day iirc. But the sale was brutal, i remember trying for like 12 hrs to get in the website to buy
-
There is option of parking at the Convention Center (which fills up fastest) but there are also surrounding lots. As stated you cannot park overnight and there are certain hours you cannot park so if you are line camping, you have to plan accordingly. You would still need your hotel parking unless you want to fight for street parking and move it x amount of times.
-
Kind of makes me wish my younger brother and his girlfriend are also Comic-Con attendees, so I can get two additional computers and log on with all three badge IDs!
Well it was me, my husband and my daughter, all in the same room...
-

They also had a $3.25 (or something like that) per day "transaction fee" which always bugged me when all days were bought with a single click. Seems more honest to me to just raise prices and not hide the cost in fees.
Not ranting at you, ranting at Ace. :)

I bought 5 days at the convention center garage last year and it cost $100, so it was $20 per day including all of the fees.
-
Thanks. Sounds like hotel is the way to go.

We are on the same page! after a huge price hike, the fees were salt in the wound. Will cringe when the 2015 price list gets released

Yeah, I never used to get parking and then a friend got me addicted to it and I have been a junkie ever since. I don't think about the cost and just pay Ace their blood money. I should send my friend a bill. >:D

The Convention Center lot opens at 5am, and the other lots open at 6am at the earliest. That is a bummer, especially if you buy passes in the same lot all week. That kind of makes getting in line for big panels VERY problematic.

If I recall correctly, the parking fee was $4.95 per parking pass last time. *sighs* I distinctly remember having to pay $19.95 for $15.00 parking passes.
Q: Will the passes sold on-line include a fee?
A: Yes, a fee of $4.95 per pass, per day will be added at checkout.

For CC 2014, I bought parking through ace, but I needed to park elsewhere from 2am-6am since I was camping out in Hall H. A few members on here told me I'd be able to find street parking, which is free from 2am-6am. As I drove through gaslamp during the afternoon to get an idea of where to find street parking, there were many signs saying "permit parking only for residents", "no event parking", etc. So I guess the City of San Diego started catching on about con-goers getting free parking. Instead I just resorted to driving back to my hotel and using the shuttle to get back to the con. And because of this I refunded my ace parking. Bleh!
This was just my experience. Was anyone at all able to find free street parking from 2am-6am for CC 2014?
-
Yes! You can park right across the street from the convention center on the backside of Petco Park between the park and the train tracks. Then I just walked across the bridge back to my space in line. At least you could this year. I know at least one year they used it for the shuttles. But I've parked there for the last two years from 2-6 when camping Saturday night. It was just me and 2 other cars. Also this was Saturday night, I don't know what it was like Thursday or Friday night.
-
So with this past weekend's festivities over and CCI now officially sold out, I emailed Ace Parking to ask them what their story is for Ace Parking for 2015, the response I got back was the following:
Ace Parking Management, Inc. 9:34am Feb 23
Working on plans for San Diego Comic-con 2015 parking permits. Should have an update by mid-March. Thank you for your patience.
Last year this one was even more trouble than getting badges for the Con itself, hope they've got things worked out for 2015.
-
Anyone know how hard Ace normally is? I got lucky last year because I was on a slow night at work and able to keep trying and trying and there when it finally started working at 10 or 11pm PST.......and 14 charges to my card ahahaha
-
Anyone know how hard Ace normally is?
If they make a big announcement like last year, it's a pain. If they do a soft release, it's pretty easy if you get in before the internet tells everyone.
-
Yea last year was rough! Especially because they took down the system and wouldn't reschedule for another day. So you couldn't plan in advance when to buy.
Sure i can clear my calendar for an hour or two if I know in advance, but i certainly can't keep revisiting a website all day. Brutal.
-
Everything CCI related is getting harder, last year the ACE website went down and if I remember correctly they kept updating it would be later in the day. I think late that night it went live after they put up an update stating that they were done for the day. Convention parking sold out quick because it's underneath the conv center and super convenient.
Anyway I emailed Ace and asked what happened I went to bed and you held your sale. They sent me an email apologizing and offered me a second chance at conv or Hilton parking and it was guaranteed.
-
Yes, Ace held a 'private sale' last year for people who complained that the site went up after Ace said it wouldn't.
-
Nothing like a little shot of stress a few weeks before Hotels :P
In my case, it will be Ace Parking, which caused me and other Ace customers a lot of stress last year. Last year we has a smorgasbord of spinning circles of death and being charged multiple times without getting any passes. It took us over a week to get the passes we wanted and a reversal of the bogus charges.

Andrew how much were you charged? I read some ppl were almost up to 1k
-
I hope they try harder to work out the kinks this year so that we would not have the fiasco we had last year.
-

$1,000??? Sounds like you're either talking about the bogus multiple charges or unauthorized parking lots run by scoundrels trying to make a fast buck.
In my case, for five days at the convention center, I was charged $15 a day, plus a service charge of $4.95 a day, for a grand total of $99.75.
I did rack up $454 in bogus charges, all of which have been refunded.
-
Yeah that's what I was referring to. A lot of ppl were in heart attack mode because of all the charges. I was glad I went to bed otherwise I would've jump in on the late night sale and would've been charged a lot also.
-
If you used a credit card it was no big deal really. They refunded it within a few days. However, if you used a debit card it could have potentially ruined your life. Seriously. It took that money out of people's bank accounts! It charged my card over $1,000 b/c it went through so many times while I was trying but didn't know the charge was going through. For anyone who got that ripped from their checking accounts, I hope Ace did something special or extra for them. Overall, they really did do right by the people who complained and basically made sure they all got parking at CC or Hilton.

oh you got caught up in it too. There was a FBERS pg created after this call Allies through Ace. To read some of the things that were happening to people, like you said ruined their lives. Hopefully this years parking sale will go smooth.

Oh yeah. I don't think I remember anyone here having their life ruined, but I imagined it happening to folks. If they had taken $1000 from my checking it account it certainly would have ruined mine! I don't have that kind of extra money just sitting in there unless it's actual pay day.....and even then, if they took it I'd have no money to pay my bills. And imagine overdraft fees if you didn't have that much. Nightmare. I never use debit for anything other than the grocery store or something like that for this reason and probably shouldn't even do that. If it was ever compromised that's real money they are taking!

Split the posts about Ace Parking from the "CCI 2015 GENERAL Registration Discussion Thread" and merged them into the "CCI 2015 Ace Parking" thread (just to keep it organized. ^__~
Figured that the best place to talk about parking would be in the already existing parking discussion thread! Ha ha.

No worries! ^__^d

I was one of the people with extra charges last year. I got charged 22 times, at $100 each, which was $2,200 in charges! Fortunately, this was on a credit card, and Ace reversed the extra 21 charges before my bill was due.
Nope, they didn't do anything special for me, other than reverse the charges. I did get the parking though, and that's what mattered.

are any of the places that are part of the ace parking sale open for 24 hr parking?
-
no.....unfortunately

no.....unfortunately
:( ok thanks
-

No. I believe the point is that they don't want people buying parking from Ace in lieu of parking through their hotel. They don't want people staying downtown to be purchasing the parking. Which makes sense - the people at downtown hotels should already be covered, so the limited parking spaces should go to people who are commuting in to the con.

My group and I will be commuting from Carlsbad and we plan on staying overnight in line at the convention center for most of the nights so it would be easier having somewhere we can park the car overnight

I agree, that would make it easier for people who want to go overnight lineups, but I don't think that is Ace's priority.
Besides, if they did offer overnight parking, you would have more people competing for the reserved spaces. For example, I will be staying at the Hilton Bayfront. I will have to park in their garage for for $32 per night. I would much rather pay $20 per day through Ace for the same garage. If I were allowed to buy Ace parking and stay overnight, I'd be competing for parking, as would a bunch of other people who didn't want to pay exorbitant hotel rates. This is of far more concern to Ace and CCI than people who want to camp out overnight for lineups.

UPDATE: 3/11/15.
Comic-Con 2015 Parking Permit Registration
Comic-Con Fans: This time around, we’re doing it differently. We want to provide the best experience possible and take the pain and pressure out of the process. So for this years sale, we’re going to a lottery based system.
How does it work?
Registration is easy. Send an email into [email protected] and you’re done.
Ace will collect entries until April 12th and then hold a random drawing to select the winners.
If your entry is selected, you will be guaranteed a spot at one of our Ace locations.
The lots will be filled in order as shown below:
Convention Center
Hilton Garage
Petco Lots (excluding Campus lot which will be closed for construction during Comic-Con)
Padres Parkade
Diamond View Tower
Horton Plaza
Gaslamp City Square
Entries will be selected at random up to the capacity of each location. If your entry is selected, you will receive an email back from us by April 15th. Included in that email will be details on how to purchase your permit at the location you were drawn for. If you choose not to purchase your permit, it will be forfeited.
You must register first at the email above in order to be included in the drawing. Entries by phone, writing or through other email addresses will not be considered and only one entry per account will be considered.
The locations in the list above are the most sought after locations and therefore they are the ones that will participate in the lottery. Following the sellout of the lots above, the system will be opened to the public for purchase of any remaining inventory.
Ace values our customers. This year we hope to provide a better experience and take the pressure out of the process. We believe this new lottery system is the best way to make that happen.
Sincerely,
Ace Parking

It seems like everything regarding SDCC is lottery based now ::)
-
What?
Ugh... this is a nightmare!
Ah well, time to go send emails...
-
Ugh...
Ugh times two.
-
This just doesn't sound good :-\
-
I don't like/trust that all you do is send an email. They couldn't set up a form? What if an email gets lost? Or deleted?
-
It does seem really strange, I've been trying to call them but it just rings and rings, not a good sign.
-
Their phone probably exploded from all the calls....
-
This too will be a lottery, process sounds simple enough either you get it or you don't. I like the first come first serve of past years but after their shutdown on day of sale last year I guess this was to be expected.
-
This is their solution for last year's debacle?! So glad, I am flying down.
-
Well I recieved one of those automated replys from them. Hope that means I good to go and just hope I get one of those coveted emails with convention center parking.
-
Q: Will the system allow me to purchase multiple permits per day?
A: No. Each account is restricted to one permit per day for Comic-Con. If you need to purchase more than one permit, you will need to setup multiple accounts.
This is confusing. Hope they mean only one permit per day PER lottery win. Not that I'm worried because I need multiple permits, I just need one. More about scalpers or ppl being greedy. Wish they would force one to register first so the lottery entries are unique. Ah well, will have to get my email out this afternoon
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
-
I got the confirmation email as well. At least I know I'm in the lottery now.
-
If the lottery is per email address - and you have more than one email address/account - does that mean that we can submit an entry for each email address? In other words - does it go by email address or by name? So, those that only have one email address can enter only once - but if you have two or three than that means you can be entered more than once?
-
Maybe you need an Ace account for the email address?
-
The web page says multiple things. At the top it says send an email and your done.
Below the list of parking lots it says "only one entry per account will be considered" making me think u need an acct.
The first faq says "the drawing will be restricted to one entry per email address" making me think u don't need an acct
Anyone's guess is as good as mine!
-
Aces post just states to email them to registar for the lotto the account will come in later i think. Last year you needed your account to buy the actual parking passes
-
My guess is that they didn't really think this through. They're going to start getting lots of questions and submissions (some of which may not 'qualify'). Hopefully they will release more specifics shortly, once they realize their error.
-
Here's the response I got after sending a message to [email protected]:
"We have received your registration for Comic Con 2015
Thank You...
Note: This is an automated response to your message "Comic Con 2015
parking" sent on 3/11/2015 1:01:44 PM.
This is the only notification you will receive while this person is away."
Any of you receive anything different?
-
I'm guessing that scalpers will hit this sale hard since all you need is a email address.
-
DO NOT BUY PARKING FROM A SCALPER!!!!!!!
The parking passes can be printed out multiple times. But the barcodes can only been used one. A scalper can print out one set of parking passes 500 times and sell them all. The first person to get to the lot gets in. The other 499 people are screwed and will be denied entrance. Not worth the risk.

Excellent point. We will be reiterating that as this parking debacle unfolds.

I submitted the following questions to the support email address: [email protected]
Questions:
If the lottery is per email address - and you have more than one email address - does that mean that we can submit an entry for each email address? In other words - does it go by email address or by name? So, those that only have one email address can enter only once - but if you have two or three than that means you can be entered more than once?
Also, in order to purchase the parking passes - do we need to register for a separate ACE Parking Account for each email address - even though our Real Name and Address would be the same for each of the accounts?
I have submitted two email addresses for the lottery so far - I have an ACE Account already set-up from last year that still works for one email address, but not for the other - does this mean I have to sign up for another account for the second email address - if I sign up for another account with a different email address but the same real name will and address will either be valid for purchasing tickets - depending on which one is chosen?
Or - is if the lottery is going to be limited to One Name regardless of the number of email addresses? - If so, do I need to withdraw the entry I submitted that I haven't set up an account for yet?
Thanks for any info.
-
Those are good questions. Please let us know what they say in response!
-
How early does the trolly run?
-
I believe it starts around 4am.
-
I believe it starts around 4am.
Then that will be my Plan B. I used the trolly with no problem at my first Con in 2011. I just parked my car at a distant station and got on. With that and staying at my younger brother's rental for free, this could be my cheapest Con!

Q: If my entry is selected for a lot, can I purchase a permit for multiple days, or just a single day.?
A: When you enter the system to purchase your permit, you will have the option to purchase permits for all four days during the show.
Q: Can I register multiple times for the lottery?
A: Yes and no, the system will accept your entries, but the drawing will be restricted to one entry per email address.
Q: What is the link for the site selling the permits?
A: https://space.aceparking.com/events We are releasing the link to the site that will be selling the permits ahead of time so you will be able to get familiar with the site and setup an account in the system, if you so choose. The permits will be sold by our reservation website at space.aceparking.com. The link to the page that will be selling the permits in the system is: https://space.aceparking.com/events/. Credit cards are not stored on the site and the site is fully PCI compliant.
Q: What are the operating hours for the lots?
Open TBD: Tailgate Park, Triangle, MTS, 707 Broadway, Gaslamp City Square. Open TBD: Convention Center, Hilton Bayfront garage, Padres Parkade, Diamond View Towers, Horton Plaza.
Q: What is the decal number field in the user account setup?
A: The decal number field is for Associates of Ace Parking Only and you can leave it blank.
Q: Do the lots offer over-sized vehicle parking?
A: No, vehicles over 18 feet will be turned away and not allowed to park even with a valid permit. Sorry.
Q: Does my permit include in-and-out privileges for the day?
A: No, in-and-out privileges are not allowed. If you leave the lot your space will become available for another drive-up customer to park in. Sorry.
Q: Does the on-line system require me to setup an account to purchase my permits?
A: Yes. You will need to setup an account during the checkout process. Your account will enable system features such as the ability to print your permit in the future, and tie all purchased permits to a single barcode that you can carry on your smart device for use at scanner equipped lots. Your account will be available for future purchases for parking at next years Comic-Con and other events with the same barcode assigned to you which will be replenished with future permit purchases as they are made.
Q: Will the system allow me to purchase multiple permits per day?
A: No. Each account is restricted to one permit per day for Comic-Con. If you need to purchase more than one permit, you will need to setup multiple accounts.
Q: Is there a way to purchase Comic-Con permits other than online?
A: The only way you can purchase advance parking permits for Comic-Con from Ace Parking is through the online system. However, the majority of the lots included in the online sale and others that are not included will be available for drive up parking the day of the event. Drive up availability will be first come, first served for the remaining spaces not reserved online. The lots are expected to fill up fast. If you are planning to find parking the day of the event, you should get there early.
Q: Can cars be parked overnight? Or just during the hours of the event?
A: Overnight parking is not permitted. The lots close at 2am and reopen at 6am (Convention Center opens at 5am). They close so they can be prepared for the next day. Most lots are pre-sold to full capacity each day, so any cars on the lot after 2am, will be towed at the owners expense.
Q: What if I drive a different car the day of the event?
A: This year there is no need to enter details about your vehicle when you purchase your permit. The program doesn’t even prompt for them. We only request that you place a copy of your printed permit on your dashboard so it can be scanned by our lot enforcement personnel.
Q: Can I make a copy of my permit and give it to my friend?
A: No. The permits are lot specific and can only be redeemed once. If a copy is found, the vehicle will be ticketed. If you’ve copied your permit and given it to a friend, the second permit scanned will be in violation and that may end up being your car. The permits are bar coded and lot enforcement personnel will be making the rounds scanning/redeeming them.
Q: Handicap Parking?
A: ADA spaces are first come first served. The Convention Center and Hilton Bay Front are the best choices for ADA parking.
Q: Will the passes sold on-line include a fee?
A: Yes, a fee of $4.95 per pass, per day will be added at checkout."
-
Since the lottery removes control over which Lot we get - it would be great if all the lots were the same price as the Convention Center and Hilton Bayfront - probably no such luck on that one.
-

And it would help if all lots open at 5am, not just the Convention Center and the Hilton.
-
How many parking spots at convention center and Hilton? How many people going to put in multiple email accts? It seems to me to get these prime spots well the odds can't be good right 5 or 10 percent chance. 10 is probably too high :(
-
Maybe you need an Ace account for the email address?
My guess is that you don't need an ace account to enter the lottery, but you'll need to sign up for one (if you don't already have one) if you're picked to purchase a parking permit.
I'm OK with the lottery system, what I don't like is that you don't get to choose which garage you want.
-
Rethinking the odds it's probably low single digits imo
-
And this is why it's imperative more than ever to get a downtown hotel: park your car at the hotel parking lot and simply walk to the convention.

Since the lottery will draw according to the list order and "Entries will be selected at random up to the capacity of each location. If your entry is selected, you will receive an email back from us by April 15th." multiple entries could create better chances of getting the close parking lots.

That's the first thing I thought about when I read this:
"Registration is easy. Send an email into [email protected] and you’re done."
What's to stop someone from creating hundreds of different email addresses and entering them all? I don't like the sound of this but it's the only system they could come up with on short notice, I guess. :P
-

1) Nothing will stop them. :(
2) Short notice? Their SDCC-sales-fiasco from 2014 was nearly a year ago.
-
I'm not so concerned with one con-goer creating many email addresses to increase their chances as i am scalpers doing so. E.g. scalper creating 1000 email addresses and 100 of them won bayfront/convention center. Taking 99 spots away from fans

Irregardless of who is creating the extra accounts (probably everybody, although you're right, scalpers will have more by a large percentage), they've basically guaranteed a lottery pool 10-10,000 times the actual number of people needing permits. I don't see how that's good for them.
-
I'm going to enter even though I don't think I need it? But if I don't get a downtown hotel, I'll need it. And I bet a lot of people are doing that sort of thing. Hedging their bets.
-
I am encouraging everyone to enter even if you don't need the parking spot.
Since Ace has the capability to issue a 'buy' via either an email address or a code, there would not be a requirement to actually buy the parking spot, rather the email or code could simply be passed off to a fellow forum member.
This is an opportunity for folks to pay into the karma pool and in turn have someone 'owe' you. you never know the person you give the code to may get into the hasbro booth.....
<yes, i am shameless>
I need parking. I don't have a trolley stop close to my condo.

I'm with ya; a trolly ride would probably add a good 20-30 minutes to my commute one way. I'd have to drive to a park & ride and hop the trolley. Most of the time I'd have a full car, and with five people it's cheaper to go in on parking than trolley.

Here is the answer I got: You only need to register once and if you register more than once it will not better your odds for the lottery.
Also, I was told not to create an account on the second email address I already submitted until (if) I am selected.
Both are kind of weak answers - I am not sure if they realize the impact of those that might be submitting lots of email addresses - especially if they are from potential scalpers.
I was thinking that next time (probably too late this year) is that they should work with Comic-con and use the Epic Registration system - or, for those that were able to buy Comic-con tickets (would also include Pros of course) - there is a box that asks if you want to also be put into the ACE Parking lottery - that way only those that are attending comic-con get first crack at the parking spots - if they check the box
.

That makes no sense.

They mean multiple entries with the same email address, which highlights how poorly this was thought through.
They're running this like a raffle, not a lottery

Great way of putting it! Spot on!
They are really not thinking through the the communication. or they are being vague on purpose knowing you really can improve your odds with multiple entries (just not multiple with same em address)

Maybe that means multiple w/the same e-mail?
FWIW it seems very little of this strategy of ACE Parking makes sense...

My question was specifically referring to multiple entries using different email addresses - but the person's real name and address are the same.
I don't think they are thinking this through - It would have been better just to first come, first serve, and just get more servers or something.

Thanks Sam - However, there is still one lingering thing that I think needs more clarification - so I sent the following further question to them:
hank you so much for the info - However, the one question that is still not answered is whether a person is able to establish an ACE Parking Account for each email address submitted.
For example, I currently have an ACE parking account setup for one of my email addresses - so the question is whether I am allowed to set up separate ACE parking account for any other email addresses I submit - even though the name, street address, and zip code on each of the accounts is the same.
To clarify further - if John Jonzz has three different email addresses and enters each of those email addresses into the lottery, can John then setup a separate ACE Parking account for each of those email addresses ahead of time even though each those different email addresses is associated with the name John Jonnz who lives at Anystreet, Anytown, USA, 11111. Then if one of his three email addresses is chosen, he can use the ACE Parking Account he set-up for that specific email address to buy the parking tickets.
Or - When you setup an ACE Account does the system say that account has already been setup for John Jonzz at
Anystreet, Anytown, USA, 11111 - thus preventing him from setting up a separate account for each email address.
Sorry to be so pesty on this - I just want to make sure I have all of the details correct.
Sorry Friends of CCI - the correct spelling is J'onn J'onzz (my bad!)
-
Quick show of hands, how many people know who John Johnnz is? No google.
-
Martian Manhunter
And I didn't Google. He was my fave in the new JLA til DC cancelled it after Forever Evil and sent him and Star Girl to Justice League Canada and I didn't bite on that dirty trick.

I may be overlooking a reason why this is important, but I don't think you'll need to worry about this for the lottery. You don't have to create an Ace Parking account unless you're selected in the lottery because you don't need it until it's time to purchase, so you won't need to do so for each email address you use to enter.
-

I didn't until the apostrophes were added. :)

I'm interested to hear the answer. If they say you cannot setup a separate account with same street address, that kind of goes against this FAQ answer: "If one of the email accounts you entered from is selected to purchase a permit, you have the option to create an account for that email address, or update your existing account with that email address to qualify for the purchase option."
That answer leads me to believe they only uniquely track email addys, not names/addresses (people in other words). Not that this would be the first time they contradicted themselves.
-
From the Faqs:
"Q: Will the system allow me to purchase multiple permits per day?
A: No. Each account is restricted to one permit per day for Comic-Con. If you need to purchase more than one permit, you will need to setup multiple accounts."
IMO You'd need more than one account to buy for lot A and Lot B, if you won. Once a person buys for the day, that account won't be able to select another lot. With two accounts, you could also buy Lot A for and Lot A for a second family/friend car, if selected!
As for another account with the same account info...will test that.
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.
-
Wait I'm confused by all this... it seems like from their faqs they are almost encouraging people to register from a bunch of email addresses to increase their odds. I don't mind lottery systems but this one just doesn't make sense. Even if everyone in my group that is going registers using ALL their email addresses it's still possible that we won't get nearby parking if everyone else has like 50 email addresses created just for this. And I'm not convinced yet if using multiple email addresses is even a good idea (will they be updating their faqs again to say that its against the rules?). Ughh.
I live in North County (Carlsbad area) and this will be my 8th year going. We tried taking the trains once a while back but for our group driving and parking nearby is the only real option as I'm sure it is for many locals. It will be a nightmare if we can't get parking. :(
-
..... parking nearby is the only real option as I'm sure it is for many locals. It will be a nightmare if we can't get parking. :(
the only hope that's saving me from going completely wacko is the fact that there have been parking spaces left over in some of the farther away places. yes, it's not under con, yes it's $25 & all that carp but i'm thinking there will be spots somewhere in down town SD
-
And I'm not convinced yet if using multiple email addresses is even a good idea (will they be updating their faqs again to say that its against the rules?). Ughh.
I feel your frustration, parking makes a huge difference for me too since I'm not staying downtown. I think they are not addressing it specifically because they cannot make it against the rules. "Accounts in the permit system are separate from the registration emails." So I assume they have no way to track if a single person is entering multiple times with multiple email addresses.
-
Valerie on comicconguide recommends Parkopedia to find a spot. not as close as the Ace lots, but if you're desperate, it can work.
-
I am encouraging everyone to enter even if you don't need the parking spot.

<yes, i am shameless>
I need parking. I don't have a trolley stop close to my condo.
How is it possible to pass the code to another person if it has to match the E-mail address belonging to the one selected? Can this be done without attaching a name meaning someone can use my E-mail address and I can just forward it to the person making the reservation? If it can be done, I'll be happy to participate and vice versa.
-
Here is how i envision it: you have to use that email on the acct. So I would purchase the parking, you would pay me back via paypal. Then i would email you .pdfs of the voucher. Similar to stub hub style.
Thoughts?

I E-mailed Jon at Ace last night and he got back to me this morning.
My E-mail:
Hi Jon,
Basically could a single person register multiple E-mail addresses for himself/herself to increase his/her chances of being picked to purchase parking passes?
Thanks,
Andrew Gallagher
His reply:
Hi Andrew,
If you are referring to registering for the Comic-Con lottery, yes, there is no way we can prevent that. Scalpers can beat any system regardless, so we decided to sell parking permits and not try to police the system.
If a person registers multiple accounts and has multiple entries drawn and then only buys one during the purchase window opportunity, the unpurchased permits will go back into pool for another round. So in those cases there is little harm done.
The scalpers are a bigger issue, but we looked at various ways to beat them and every one has holes in it.

OR....
the person who received the winning email creates an ace account with a simple password with no CC attached to the acct. Then gives that log in info to a friend on the forum. That friend then buys the passes with their cc making sure to not click the field "save cc". They buyer also prints the doc's/saves the pdf's.
you then log back into that account & change the password.

Or person with the winning email, just gives you the winning email address to create the account with. You log in, create your own account with all your info other than the email, buy the parking, print the parking, then change the email to your own and it's just your account from now on. That way if they do happen to check ID with the permit, it will match.

Those are all valid approaches too. What i like about cracksback's is that the person who is getting the parking permit can change the em addy to their own after the sale. That way they basically own the acct and the parking vouchers going forward (cutting out the person who actually won the lottery).
Not that I would worry about checking IDs because Ace "doesn't police" this process. But overall this sounds like the cleaner approach.
-
I prefer the lot purchaser be the one and only buyer. The winning email address have a one-time use. Will only be "loaned" out for the "one transaction" to the designated purchaser. The account of the lot purchaser should be the only one involved in the sale, since any refunds of days revert to that purchaser's credit card.
For those who haven't been in the sale last year,
On 5/20 the lots primary sold were Convention and Hilton:

The level of delusion over at Ace this week is sky-high...
I generally try to give people the benefit of the doubt, and am generally pretty laid back when it comes to all-things Comic-Con. But to be blunt, I don't ACE is delusional so much as they are inept. They could even make this process very simple by making folks who want parking register on their site with an account with each name/address/contact info only good for one email. This is not a difficult thing to set up a lottery, but ACE is seemingly completely inept with even the simple basics. This will ONLY cause more stress & frustration from their clients/consumers (i.e. us) and maybe a LOT more work for them, especially if some who has a dozen reigistered accounts gets chosen multiple times or something.
I typically trust in the folks who are professionals and know more about their industry/business than I do. I'm just a HS music teacher who doesn't have to worry about dealing with selling a small supply of stuff to 100k+ people. But this really seems like common sense stuff ACE is screwing up and I can't see this ending in anything other than frustration and problems for all

exactly, i really dont want to tell folks how to deal with their winning email. there are too many varibles.
bottom line, assess the situation and if it doest make sence to you dont do it.
for example, i can not take the risk of giving a @friendsofcci.com email away or letting someone have access to my email for the confomation emails. i will forward emails but i will not give anyone the password to that email account.
it is entiirely different if it's a throw away email address.
-
this assumes, the original email isn't already in use with a cc attached to the account.
Well, yeah, I was assuming if you won and it's only with one account and you have set up an actual account with that email already and purchased parking and stored a CC, you need parking for yourself and are buying it for yourself. Guess it's possible. People will have to figure it out on an individual basis. The safest way seemed to be the way I suggested if the email has not yet been used to open an account.
And no one needs to know the email password to the email account. You don't have to get in the email used to do anything. You just enter one to make the account. The permits can be printed straight from your ACE account. Access to the email used is not necessary.
-
Alyssa is right: it depends entirely on which account of yours wins. I think if we lay out a few alternatives, people can choose what is best for them.

iirc, and im sure sam will help with this, to set up an ace acct a person needs to reply to an email generated by ace. thats why im saying, the lotto winner could set up the ace acct send the buyer the ace acct email and password and the buyer takes it from there. the lotto winner may need to forward emails to the buyer tho.
again this is a non issue if the email is a new acct

My second account generated did not have a verification email. (Maybe Ace could do that to fight spam bots?!) I was able to log in and out immediately.
Account 2 does not have a credit card attached either, since the winning email will have a guarantee to buy at that lot and a span of time, no concern in not finishing the transaction in 30 minutes, IMO.

Agree, if the email is linked to an existing account, that person would have to vacate that email address (modify their account and uncheck/delete any saved credit card info) BEFORE the loan. Having the same email address in more than one Ace account may conflict the buying process.
We still don't know if the accounts will need to be activated by the winning emails sent (April 12-15) either. The only thing Ace mentioned was you had "to be logged into your account first" before you buy.
-
The FAQ says you do not need an account to enter the lottery, and that you can create an account after you 'win' to buy the parking pass.
-
The FAQ says you do not need an account to enter the lottery, and that you can create an account after you 'win' to buy the parking pass.
Yes. To enter the lotto, you enter with an email. Once you receive the winning email (After April-12-15), you will have the option to use that winning email address or disregard.
Today-April 12 Registration is easy. Send an email into [email protected] and you’re done.
After April 12-April 15
If your entry is selected, you will receive an email back from us by April 15th. Included in that email will be details on how to purchase your permit at the location you were drawn for. If you choose not to purchase your permit, it will be forfeited.
Q: If I send in multiple entries from multiple email accounts that I own and win one of them, can I purchase my permit with any of the emails I registered with or only the one that won?
A: Only the one that won. Your winning email address must be registered in the account you are going to use to purchase the permits. The purchase process will require you to log into your account first and will validate your email address. If your email address matches one on the selected list, you will be given the option to purchase a permit at the lot your name was drawn for. If there is no match, the option to purchase a permit will not be available to you.
Q: Can I register for the drawing with an email address that I haven’t registered an account with in the permit system?
A: Yes. Accounts in the permit system are separate from the registration emails. If one of the email accounts you entered from is selected to purchase a permit, you have the option to create an account for that email address, or update your existing account with that email address to qualify for the purchase option.

It didn't make sense to me how Ace was going to handle ADA parking using their lottery, so I emailed them
and this was their response--
"Hi,
This year we have structured the Comic-con passes through a lottery system, the lottery incorporates ADA parking and regular parking spots. We do not know as of now how many ADA parking spots have been requested, if you have not registered for the lottery I would suggest on doing that now. When you submit your email add your name and need ADA parking space. Here is a link to our FAQ and any updates will be posted here. ----> http://www.aceparking.com/comic-con/
here is the email to register ---> [email protected] "
Emphasis mine.
-
Wait what? Someone is physically opening and reading all of these emails?
And do all of the other ppl needing ada know this info? Or they only tell ppl reactively?
I can make no sense of ace, but thanks for sharing the email response. I'm sure it will help some forum members
-
Are other people including their name in the emails that they are sending to ACE or is that only for people requesting ADA parking? I've just been sending them from a bunch of my email addresses without putting any info. I thought it was just an automated response. ???

Their FAQ page certainly doesn't say you need to enter your name. that's why I am surprised at this response. I assumed they were just automatically entering email addresses into a database and using that for the lottery.

So if someone gets only the MTS Lot they have to be prepared to pay $45/day for parking (including the service fee). Yikes. A few years back I remember parking there for one day that for some reason we didn't have a parking permit for and we payed $30 to the parking attendant. Paying $45 in advance just seems kind of crazy. Feels like the pricing is getting out of control. I'm really hoping I get Bayfront or Convention Center not just because of the proximity but also the cost.

Are other people including their name in the emails that they are sending to ACE or is that only for people requesting ADA parking? I've just been sending them from a bunch of my email addresses without putting any info. I thought it was just an automated response. ???
Only for people requesting ADA parking.
-
Their FAQ page certainly doesn't say you need to enter your name. that's why I am surprised at this response. I assumed they were just automatically entering email addresses into a database and using that for the lottery.
I'm not sure exactly what they're doing. I guess if someone's email is chosen and they requested ADA parking, then Ace will place them into a different group. And their spot would go to someone else who just needs a regular parking space. :-\
And yeah, this extra requirement isn't mentioned in the FAQ. I already sent out my emails to Ace (without name, etc.), so I'm kinda pissed at them right now.
-
wow! i thought they were price gouging last year. $40/day is simply outrageous. Parking is going to exceed badge prices next year.
Yeah at these prices it's definitely far more reasonable to ride the trolley: it's not the most convenient, but I'm OK with slight inconvenience if it means not paying crazy prices like this
-

And the thing is, they will still have no problems gouging SDCC attendees and selling out quick: i.e. they will not get the message that their entire handling of 2015 SDCC is awful, from the "lottery" to the handling of the lottery to the pricing. There are plenty of park & ride options and I will definitely be utilizing them this year
-
i'm not sure & i haven't done the cross reference but i think the $40 buck lots might not have sold out last year. Or if they did, it was much closer to the event.
I gotta say, one of the nice things abt our economic system is the 'vote with your wallet' idea.
-
I don't need parking, however, if it will help you guys I'm willing to put my email in the lotto.

It took a while for some of the lots to sell out last year. I want to say weeks?
-

If not longer. I remember leading up to SDCC last year (maybe a week out?) people were trying to sell them at marked-up prices when the lots still had pre-paid parking spaces available for those days
-
Good. I wasn't sure if I was hallucinating (again). Yeah, I think there were some available up to very close to the show.
-
Yes, the only reason to be 'right on the dot' for this lottery is if you want convention center or Hilton Bayfront. The other lots are available for a few days, or even a few weeks, afterward.
-
Guys, I renewed my Padres season tickets in anticipations for all the new free agent signings and all star game here in San Diego in 2016, but this year the parking passes went thru the roof this year!!! $10 parking with $2 online charge, now becomes $20 with $4 online charge!!!

Yikes; I saw ticket prices have increased drastically in just the last few years. My season tickets from two seasons ago, on the first baseline section above field level on the first deck have nearly doubled in price. I didn't get them last year so I don't recall what they were last year. But compared to the 2013 season the prices have jumped A TON

Don't you still have to wait for the "lottery of Doom" to pick you and send you an email? Or do you think after some initial days that Ace will just open up all remaining lots in their website and allow all to purchase whatever is still available?
-
from the website:
"You must register first at the email above in order to be included in the drawing. Entries by phone, writing or through other email addresses will not be considered and only one entry per account will be considered.
The locations in the list above are the most sought after locations and therefore they are the ones that will participate in the lottery. Following the sellout of the lots above, the system will be opened to the public for purchase of any remaining inventory."

The site doesn't say when the actual lottery sale will actually be or when the "public" purchase will happen. The only dates mentioned were the April 12 registration end date and "If your entry is selected, you will receive an email back from us by April 15th." Really, Ace should call this a preregistration sale instead of a lottery! The preregistered "winners" get to pick (their selected lot) first, then the remaining spots open up after.

Sam is right. Yes, you have to wait for your lottery email if you want one of the popular lots (Convention Center and Hilton Bayfront). But after the lottery, Ace has said that they will open up the remaining spots for purchase from their website. Most of the other lots should be available at that time (based on past history).

I was curious as to parking at the Marquis and Marina. I just got my hotel confirmation and this is where I'll be staying for comic con. Upon looking at the parking options, the mariott website said
Parking managed by Ace Parking. In/out privileges are included in self and valet parking rates.
Does this mean I still have to go through the lottery for ace parking in order to park at my own hotel?

Hotel guest parking isn't the same as the outside parking lots managed by Ace. You should be fine in general, since you'll be an actual hotel guest. Even if the hotel's parking lot is managed by Ace, they won't be using the hotel parking for the parking lottery. (The lottery only applies to certain parking lots, like the convention center and part of the Hilton Bayfront parking structure.)

omg thanks for the quick reply. itll be my first time going to comic-con and have been lucky enough to get tickets and get to stay at the marquis and marina only to be blocked by that parking situation.
thanks for the clarification!

I was one of the lucky who got the Hilton Bayfront and will be driving from Houston, Tx. Will I have to participate in the ACE parking lottery or will I be able to just use the self park or valet parking at the Bayfront. I just want to get some info from people who have stayed there.

There are spaces reserved specifically only for Hilton Bayfront hotel guests, so yes, you will be able to use either self-parking or the valet parking at the hotel.
-
Yes, guests can park at the Hilton Bayfront. I think it was $25/night last year and this includes in and out privileges. Parking spots through Ace do not.

Ace spots also do not allow overnight parking.
-
thanks for the info, that really helps me out. You guys are awesome.
-
I'm willing to set up a new email and toss it into the lottery in the hopes of getting parking for someone who needs it.
-
That would be great zep!
-
I just threw a couple emails into the Ace lottery to hopefully help out someone on this forum.
In addition, I'll be staying at Hilton Bayfront but won't be parking my car there (managed to convince someone to drive us down from LA). I'm not opposed to someone using my guest space at the Hilton Bayfront, provided they pay for it obviously. I'm not sure how that would work but if someone can figure out a way, I'd be happy to work with them.
-
That's a good question, how to accept payment for a hotel spot so both people feel comfortable. Hopeful the Wiki brain pool can come up with a good suggestion.
-

Parking at the hotel is charged to a guest's credit card at the end of the stay as an incidental (along with room service charges etc). I don't think it can be prepaid.
So, if I were going to do this for someone I would ask for payment ahead of time. That way the risk would be on the "parker" side. As a parker, you should only do this if you trust the person who will be selling you their spot. Good luck!
ETA: There is also the question of if this is allowed by the hotel. Probably not, but I doubt you have to show ID or anything to drop off your car. They would probably just ask for name and/or Room #, which is information that could easily be passed between the two parties.
-
Not sure if someone asked this or if it is located somewhere else but here goes.
I also am throwing my email in the ace sorting hat to get parking for anyone who needs it (I won't need it). Will there be a spreadsheet created as we move closer to April 12-April 15 so we can see who needs parking and who has parking to give away?
-

Every hotel I've stayed at, it's just been a matter of giving the last name/room # to the valet. I often did this when relatives were in town and I wanted to park overnight at their hotel, despite my name not being on the reservation.
Logistically, I think either payment before or a 50/50 type deal would work best to keep both parties comfortable. And of course being willing to give up personal information to validate both offers. It's definifely something both parties would need to be okay with. Thankfully, I feel like this forum does provide an element of security based on the type of people it attracts - I would never make this offer on Twitter or reddit!

We're discussing the need for a doc now
-
No big decisions have been made yet, but yes, I think there will likely be a (simpler) doc with the names of people who need parking.
-
So I threw my name in the hat to try and get parking for folks here (as I'm at Hilton Bayfront and won't need parking myself). When the powers that be set up the above doc, hopefully it'll work out for someone.
-
Okay so I registered to qualify for the parking lottery. Let's hope I get something so that I can pass it along.
I'll be staying at the Wyndham and keeping the car there. It's only about a mile away so it's walkable for the most part and there's a shuttle so the rental won't be used too much during the week.
-
I have the MMM so I won't need parking, but I registered for the lottery to help forum members - if I get in I'll have parking to pass on to someone who needs it!
-
Has anyone gotten any emails yet?
-
Emails about what?
-
About parking. They go out between now and the 12th, yeah?
-
Are we supposed to get emails by the 12th or was the 12th the deadline to send ACE an email letting them know you wanted to part of the lottery?

Anyone have any idea was to how many focci members need parking? I, as well as others, have put ourselves in although we won't need parking and I'm curious if there is a good number in need or just a few.

I've entered all my friends as well. I definitely need parking as we will be driving for all 5 days. Parking is what matters most for my group.
-
Parking is my main concern as well! I stay WAY out of town to save money on the hotel so parking is my stress factor hahah. Most people worry about the hotel lottery, I'm worried about the parking lottery haha

Ditto! Ditto! Ditto!
-
I'm local (driving from North County) so my semi-large group definitely needs at least a couple parking spots-- and with kids and seniors we were really hoping for Hilton or Convention Center so would appreciate any help we can get.
But I also want to mention we used as many email addresses as we could (and I created over a dozen with my website domain), so if we're somehow super lucky I will definitely offer up any extra spaces to whoever needs it.
-
I need parking too. I guarantee anyone who wants to help and ends up lucky will have a taker.
-
I don't think there will be any problem finding someone to take a parking spot if you are lucky enough to get one!
-
The prices have been posted. Some areas will be charging $40 a day. The cheapest is $15 at the Convention Center and Hilton Bayfront. The others will be between 20-30.
Source: Ace Parking website, and posted by Dan on the Fb page for the forum.
-
Don't forget the service fee that Ace charges, and the fee is per day. Last year IIRC it was $4.95 a day.
-

Indeed! It'll most likely be the same service fee as last year, but their FAQ states the following, implying that different locations may or may not have the same amount for the service fee. Hmmmm... suspicious.
"Q: Will the passes sold on-line include a fee?
A: Yes, convenience fees will be added per pass, per day and will be set by location."
(Source, last question before the pricing chart: http://www.aceparking.com/comic-con)
My advice, if you're interested in getting a parking permit, is to give a some leeway in your budget for these fees. If you get a parking pass for each day of the convention, starting on the Wednesday, the fees add up.

Yeah, that or unless someone really does not need to park around the center or is shut out of the cheaper spots, they should use other alternatives, such as the trolley. Heck, even those two seated bikes that had music in last year's SDCC would work. lol Even walking, if the hotel is not far, makes more sense than paying $40 a day, plus the added fees.
-

Absolutely. It might be a good idea to avoid driving to the convention center altogether, if it's feasible for your planned schedule (and if you don't think you'll need to store a lot of things in your car). There are plenty of alternatives, including purchasing parking permits and carpooling to split some of the costs, using public transportation, or even trying out those rideshare programs.

I submitted an email address on 4/11/15 for the parking lottery - but didn't get an auto-confirmation email - I had submitted another email address previously and got an auto-confirmation email for that one - anyone else experience this? Just wanted to make sure they got the second one as well.

When did you submit the second email? I submitted mine on a Friday, but it took a few days to get the confirmation email!

Sometimes the confirmation emails come almost immediately, but there have been times where the confirmation emails can take days, particularly over weekends. My guess is that it should come tomorrow (Monday).

As stated in my previous post, I submitted the second email on 4/11/15.

Yes I saw the date. I was asking for the time, thinking that maybe if it fell outside of their normal business hours on Friday that it could account for any delay.

Last day is today, keeping my fingers crossed everyone gets what they need.

Yes, you are right - It was outside of their business hours - so that could be the reason for the delay - will keep a watch out - hopefully one of the addresses will get chosen for the lottery :)

The auto response ended up in the spam box of one of the email providers i use. So just a reminder for everyone to check spam boxes on april 15th if u dont hear from ace

I'm nervous! I hope I get decent parking! I simply can't afford to spend $1,000 on a hotel!

You'll be fine. That's what the CCI 2015 Ace Parking Permit Request Thread (http://friendsofcci.com/forum/index.php?topic=4583.0) is for, just in case forum members need to help each other out with parking. ^__~

Same here, I stay relatively far away because I can secure parking but I'm not on the shuttle route so without parking I don't have any real means of making it back and forth to the convention center.
Edit: Also where are people seeing these confirmations? I just sent my entry in a couple days ago and have not seen any response.

You're supposed to receive a confirmation e-mail from Ace's e-mail address (the one that you sent your "entry" for the lottery to).

I have not yet - but I did send in my first registration late on Friday and i tlooks like from previous posts in this thread that confirmations aren't entirely automated as they seem to blank on weekends. So hopefully it went through. Trouble is with Ace Parking I just don't know what to make of their systems (I was one of the many phantom charged last year when their system went down).

I'm not even sure Ace knows what to make of their system. Ha ha! ^__^;;
They did mention that they'll stop taking entries for the lottery on April 12th, so I'm sure you're okay, even if you sent an e-mail in on Friday.

Yeah, thanks - I sent a couple more today (still the 12th and their website is unclear if the 12th is the deadline or no more as of th 13th) as I have a few work e-mail related accounts I didn't use. Here's hoping for the best for everyone.

You can always drive to s trolley station with park and ride. Qualcomm Stadium and Old Town both have lots. Others can be found on the San Diego MTS website. Qualcomm probably won't have parking on Thursday due to One Direction concert.

If anyone hears back from Ace regarding receiving a parking spot in the lottery (or even if you hear back from Ace saying that you could not be allocated a parking space) please post here! We don't know exactly when the lottery results will be released, only that Ace said that everyone would hear from them by April 15th.

Update 4/13 http://www.aceparking.com/comic-con/
"Registration Email: REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED
UPDATE: 4/13/15: The 2015 Comic-Con Parking Permit Registration period has ended. We will be responding back to all entries by 5pm PDT on 4/15/15. If you have been selected you will receive details on the sale, if not you will receive an email letting you know you were not selected.
Ace Parking wants to thank everyone that entered and we look forward to running a smooth stress free sale this year. We will be drawing several groups of entries and opening up the system to one group at a time until all permits are sold out. Each group will have five days to purchase their permit. At the end of that period any unpurchased permits will be put back into the pool for the next group. If you are selected, you are guaranteed a permit at one of our locations. We unfortunately cannot guarantee you a space at the Convention Center or Hilton unless you are selected in the first three groups. We will be letting you know your group assignment in our response to you.

Agreed, that is crazy! If they're going to pick a number out of the air, why not 24 or 48 hours? If someone is serious about getting a spot they are going to take care of it right away, and if not they should be out of luck.
-
I'm guessing the email with the lot assignment will have your dates for purchase already set. If ACE splits up the first two lots into 3 groups, wonder how many groups will split the other 5 lots?
-
Is this a "waiting room / registration session" system on the cheap - - stretched out over five days per group allowed in?
By the time CCI actually posts anything in their Getting Here Parking tab (http://comic-con.org/cci/parking), the spots will be gone.

That's a good point. CCI has never been stellar at the website updates, but you really have to be on social media (and not the official CCI accounts, either) to even have a hope of getting the accommodations/parking/line-up times you need. I know they don't have a responsibility to hold anyone's hand, but not updating their website really makes it a steep learning curve for newbies.

Yeah, this really does seem like the worst possible way to organize a lottery-type sale. I never thought that highly of ACE Parking before this year, and my opinions continually seem to drop lower than the basement for how they are handling this
On the plus side, at least, ACE is doing this fairly early so at least if they're going to take a significant amount of time due to their stupid operation logistics, we'll all have plenty of time to make necessary arrangements.
-

It seems to me thats it all that they can chunk in. Maybe looking at TP collapse under the stress they are playing extra safe.

#SDCC2015 parking permit registration has ended. Follow up will begin by 5pm PDT on 4/15. Check out FAQ for more info:http://t.co/trmkgDLWL7
Wait in the website update it says they will respond to all entries "by 5pm PDT on 4/15/15" but in the tweet it says they will begin at 5pm (unless I'm misreading it)... which is it? I'm just wondering if I need to be checking all my email addresses from now until the 15th or if I don't need to worry about it until the 15th.

Yeah, Archenemy, this other tweet doesn't help the email response time either.

I hope the assigned sale for the first group isn't during Celebration Anaheim this week!

Yeah, I hope that we get notified before SWCA starts so I can enjoy it without having to check my email every 5 minutes.
-
i'm actually not super upset about this announcement. They are unclear about the details as per usual Ace. But i like that they will respond to everyone and set clear dates (I hope?) of when to log in and buy, so i don't have to stress about checking my email or missing it. And i know that i will know what i got by 4/15, and then I will know when i can go buy without worrying about glitches (i hope?).
Right now i am just worried about results. Will everyone get a fair shake or did scalpers send thousands/millions of emails. guess we will see :)

Doesn't matter even if your buying slot is during that time. After all, you will have 5 days to buy. *rolls eyes*

Someone asked ace parking the same question I had and it looks like they attempted to clarify it here:
https://twitter.com/AceParking/status/587744851526991872
"@AceParking For SDCC parking, the website says you'll let us know BY 5pm on 4/15 but your tweet says it WILL START at 5pm. Please clarify"
"Ace Parking
@Reereebwell it will start BY 5pm PST"
Maybe it's just me but I swear every time they post an update or clarification it just confuses things more... But with the 5 days to purchase permits if we get selected I guess I'll just wait until the 15th to obsessively check emails.

Nice find. So i retract my earlier post, guess i do have to obsessively check emails starting wed.
Wonder if they will bother updating their website since it has wrong info according to this tweet
-
I wonder if CCI will bother to update their website saying that parking has already sold out. >:D
-
Lol TJ, or they could update it with instructions for parking at SDCC 2016 ;)

Great Twitter update find, Archenemy. A good reason to copy and post anything we see on the Ace website. (The tweet this morning came after the webpage changes, but let's hope we get an email by the end of Wednesday.).
-
Ugh. Figures the chances of finding out if we get parking before the cancellations penalties on my inconveniently located hotel room kick in are pretty minimal...
-
If you received the hotel room by TP you can cancel your hotel room online without penalty until the 16th. Tomorrow we should be finding out the parking results, what group we're in, and what date we'll be able to purchase. At least that's how I'm reading the ACE parking lotto details.
-
At least that's how I'm reading the ACE parking lotto details.
That's how the website reads, but ace has been sending tweets that say they will start notifying by wed at 5pm. Not sure which is correct.
-
Two people posted on Ace's Facebook page say they were unaware that Ace was doing a lottery and were waiting for courtesy E-mails to reach their E-mail box to let them know when the sale would take place assuming it was going to be like last year. They're only finding this out now.

I'm not surprised. Ace was very 'quiet' about getting out the info. CCI didn't send out any emails either, and as noted earlier, their site still is blank under parking. (Although I like Louie_Rob's idea of updating for SDCC 2016 parking... >:D )
I am wondering if Ace didn't 'publicize' this on purpose. They knew what kind of demand was involved, and by not publicizing it, they get fewer entries into their lottery. Maybe this was their 'test run' year. I'm hoping they make some serious tweaks to it next year!
-

I think Ace looked at what CCI does and copied that. I think that's how they came up with the ridiculous lottery.

Yeah, I honestly can't begin to imagine how ACE can make this process even more stupider than it has become.

Yeah, if I'm being optimistic maybe this is like CCI's first year of internet sales where it was a messy ordeal that continually improved. This doesn't effect me that much, since I live in San Diego and the trolley is a fairly viable option: parking is more of a convenience than a necessity (though I really need it for Sunday, since that day my wife and baby are also attending, and I assume we won't want to hold him on a crowded trolley). It just seems weird to me, after CCI has seemingly gotten their badge-buying process straightened out, that ACE would unroll a process that is clunky, seemingly unorganized and confusing, and just plain goofy.
Oh well: no one ever accused ACE of having it all together
-

Also, this seems suspect for a business practice. While CCI might have different regulations because of Non-Profit, I wonder if there are specific rules governing business from doing something like this: essentially cutting out customers on purpose. While it's easy for us to feel like we reap the benefits of this policy, or do logically get why ACE would've done this, the practice is at best shady or deceitful.
Plus, I suspect you would be giving ACE FAR more credit than they deserve by implying this practice was all part of some organized plan that they are following to the T :P I don't think ACE is that with-it, and the way that they have responded to emails and tweets asking for clarification ("we'll start the process by the end of the day April 15" or "emails will be sent out by the end of the day April 15") leads me to believe they struggle to adhere to the plan they have now, let alone launch a more complicated one
-
Yeah, I honestly can't begin to imagine how ACE can make this process even more stupider than it has become.
Hmm...only one person can buy at a time, with 5 days to do so? They'd finish just in time for 2020 Comic Con. ::)
-
Have I totally missed out on parking? I didn't know about this whole thing. An email would have been nice.
-

The deadline to email your entry has passed, but you may be able to get one through someone on this board. I'm sure any extras will be offered up here somehow so follow this thread closely.

I know, I just saw that. It's a bit annoying, I've been going for 5 years and parking has always been the one easy thing I never worried about.
-
There will be a thread posted soon for folks looking for parking.
The very preliminary numbers we are seeing is about 2 winners for every 25 entries. Those winners are for the prime location of under con, Hilton and tailgate.
Keep in mind these are very rough numbers and are not to be relied upon but it does give folks an idea of how many actual spots under con will be available. In others words just like in the hotel sale, not everyone will get under on parking
-

How are you getting these numbers? Are folks receiving their winning emails?
-
No go here for an email for myself or anyone else in my group!
-
It would be great if after each group ACE would hold off for five days before going to the next group in order to find out if there are any non-respondents (although unlikely) - so that it can open up a few more spots - It would be a bummer to be selected for a further out, more expensive lot, and then ACE announced more spots closer in and less expensive due to some non-responses.

Not to my knowledge

Iirc, if you buy further out and later on get a better spot, you'll be able to return the further out spot
-
No email yet :(
-
I'm not even worried about which lot it is. I just need somewhere to park. I'm not planning on it but hopefully there will be some leftover space.

That should happen automatically. Ace will allow the first group in to buy, and anything they don't buy is available to the second group. If someone in the first group did not buy, there will be an extra pass available for Group 2.
-
"We are going to start sending out the drawing results early! Emails will start going out this afternoon but since we have 15,000 entries it might take us a day to get every email out. Please do not worry, everyone who registered will be getting an email. Once you receive your email you will have five days to go on and reserve parking. Thank you."
Ace just posted this so looks like the first rounds are going out
-
I just got an email confirming I'm in group 1. It also says my "sales date is currently set to start 4/27/15"

I just got an email from one of my group: "sales date is currently set to start 5/4/15"
Will be curious to see what's left after Group 1...

I agree: especially knowing that there are people who submitted several emails, it's possible they'd be selected a few times with different emails & thus won't need "slots" (i.e. if someone gets in Group 1, they won't need their Group 3 submission from another email account).
-
Group 3 here. purchase date 05/11-05/15
-
Do we know exactly how this will work? Will everything be available in Group 1, everything left over Group 2, etc? Or will there be an allotment of everything for each group?
There's a four day window to purchase permits: luckily I have a job that will likely allow me to jump on this as soon as my window opens up.
Now I'm intrigued to see how this works out
-
"We are currently waiting for Comic-Con to confirm the number of vendor parking spaces they require at the Convention Center. Therefore, we can only guarantee the availability of the Convention Center OR Hilton garage for the participants in Group 1" there's also a Confidential Communication disclaimer at the bottom of the email. Could they not want this info out on social media?
-

Weird: their website states: "We unfortunately cannot guarantee you a space at the Convention Center or Hilton unless you are selected in the first three groups."
Though really, ACE contradicting itself is not really weird at this point - it's par for the course
-
According to Ace Parking's Twitter, the emails have started to go out!!
-
Of the 20+ emails we sent in among my group so far we've only gotten a group 2 and group 3. :(
I honestly think that with 15,000 entries a lot of those must be scalpers. If they are in group 1 they won't be giving those spots up.
-
My group sent in 20+ and didn't get grouped yet so you're lucky there!
-

Lol! Yes I guess anything right now isn't bad... but we actually need at least 2 spots for 3 different families going. It's possible that some emails will just arrive late.
-
Haven't gotten anything yet. Also checked my spam box.
-
I got group 5 sale starting 5/25 :/
-
I got group 6....... if anyone needs it let me know. I won't be using it.
-
There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to this. Hopefully everyone will be able to get the parking they need. If not, we will be setting up a list of people who need parking who did not get a lottery result.
-
Haven't gotten anything yet.. :|
-
Wow group 1, maybe my luck is finally turning around. My sale date is 4/27.
I will hold onto any other winning emails i get for those who need it
-
Group 3 so far, starting at 5/11/15 @ 10am. I have no idea by now what to expect from it..

Ace website's update

Interesting... so there's a chance group 2 could get something in hilton or convention. According to the convention center website their parking holds 1950 spots. But who knows how many of those go to vendors or staff, etc.
-
2 of my email addresses I got group 3.
-
Group 4. Sale date 5/18 to 5/24. I just need Sunday. O0
-
So only 3000 people were selected in the lottery? That number seems low for all the lots that are listed
-
in terms of giving other forum members spots we don't need, would it work best just pass on the email address and the group # and let them register for the spot themselves?
-

The issue there would be that any follow-up confirmation emails or other communication from ACE would also go that email address so unless you remember to forward all messages back to the buyer - some info could get lost.
-
I got group 2, if anyone needs it let me know. I don't need parking

Better than group 4 which is what I got.

^__~ Good luck, everyone.

Group 1 here, am I able to park under the con this year! ^-^ haven't done that since the 90's!
-

If you used a 'throwaway' email address, then yes, I would say that this is the best solution.
-
I got group 6. :(
-
Dad needed parking so I entered 3 of me e-mail addresses for him. Got only 1 for group 6. He entered his e-mail also and I have yet to ask him if he received the group e-mail, so any excess I will of course be giving out to the group.
-
Here is a dumb question - Why are the close-in lots less expensive than the farther out lots? If ACE wanted to be really fair - all of the lots involved in the lottery should be the same price - ACE, are you listening?
-
Here is a dumb question - Why are the close-in lots less expensive than the farther out lots?
Not a dumb question, rather, it is a dumb situation. The prices at the Convention Center and Hilton are regulated, which forces them to be lower than market rates.
-
The service charges at the convention center & Hilton are crazy though - $10/day??!
-
It was $5 last year?

So what are the total (parking + service charges) fee for parking at the convention?

Actually it is a $10 service charge :-\ ... just saw the note at the bottom of the FAQs page:
Convenience fees for the Convention Center and Hilton garage are $10.00 per permit per day. All other lots are $4.95 per permit per day.
http://www.aceparking.com/comic-con/
Still cheaper overall than the other lots if you're lucky enough to get a spot there.

OMFG! That makes me want to destroy things!!!!! They are clearly price gouging only because they can since the parking there is cheaper!!!

That's a new update too, within the last couple weeks too....original FAQ was all $4.95. I just beat on the counter top at work, ripped a napkin in half and threw it across the room. >:(
-
my cousin just got his email
Congratulations!
This email confirms that you have been drawn in Group 2 of the Ace Parking Comic-Con permit lottery.
This means you are guaranteed a permit for all days of the show or any portion thereof, and will have a five day window to purchase your permits.
Your sale date is currently set to start 5/4/15 at 10am PDT and end at midnight on 5/8/15.
i didnt get any but since he's staying with me at the MMM im gonna ask if its okay to give this away or however it works.
-

I concur. I'm pretty sure that's a fairly recent update with those $10.00 "convenience" fees for the convention center parking structure. Price gouging for sure. That's how they're trying to make a profit, despite the regulated fees for the convention center and the Hilton Bayfront Garage.
-
With all the random lotteries cropping up to replace the first-come-first-serve way of doing business, it's beginning to seem like a perfect Comic-Con experience is impossible to achieve. It's too bad they can't just have an earlier all-inclusive lottery that grants the winners all the basics of a stress free SDCC (4day badge w/PN, walking distance hotel, reserved parking at reasonable prices, etc.). I know, I know. I dream.
-
Conflicting thoughts: Though I got in with Group 1, I'm sickened with the idea that I'll be spending $125 for parking. That's more than what I usually spend on books at the con! But with two little kids with me and wife, I'm sure this will be most convenient parking method for us, as long as we get the Convention Center.
Ugh. Hurts to think of better things to spend on at the Con.
-

$ which Ace >:( >:( could surely apply to a server that's intuitive and load-tested enough to manage this mess in a much faster and more organized fashion. I dream too, Oreodoh :D

Hahahahahahaha, I know, right? A faster, better server! The profoundness of an idea that's lost on Ace. Ha ha.
-
I got into Group 6. :(

$125 is cheaper than the cost of a walking distance hotel.
I agree with Zero, they are raising the fees because they can. The 2 garages in highest demand are the ones they can count on to generate more profit.
-
Would anyone happen to know how parking works (and how much it costs) at MMM? Because I have a room there and perhaps it would be better than getting parking with ACE, seeing as I got placed in group 6.
-

If you have a room at MMM, you will need to use it for parking (or use the airport parking method if you won't be using your car during the con). Ace parking is not permitted overnight and you can be towed. If you need overnight parking, it has to be through your hotel.
(For those wondering, the airport parking method is to park at a long-term airport lot, then shuttle or taxi to your hotel for the week. Much cheaper than hotel parking prices. This only works if you don't need your car for the entire con.)
-
If you buy convention parking for today the service charge is $2.45
-
I am still waiting for the email notice to arrive - I hope I am able to get something.
-
Buying group 1 for me.
-
If you buy convention parking for today the service charge is $2.45
Yep: another example of ACE completely sucking. You would think with the extra "convenience" fees they're making they can pay staffers to work & open the lots at an earlier hour: 6am at the Hilton doesn't cut it.
Despicable: maybe my town doesn't deserve to host Comic-Con anymore with this sort of nonsense, Convention Center issues,etc... >:( >:(
-

I can't believe how expensive it is. I've parked at campus lot every year, which is next to campus lot. They were always the same price. Now, to park at campus lot for the 5 days it would be what, $250? That's crazy.

Thank you for participating in Ace Parking's 2015 Comic-Con lottery.
Due to the high volume of entries received and the limited number of spaces available, we regret to inform you that this email address was not among the group selected to purchase a parking permit for the event.
Sincerely,
-The Ace Parking Team

seeing posts from Facebook and Twitter I believe that you're right. Wife got rejection emails a few minutes ago. I got group 5 in email yesterday
-
Yep, our group got some rejection emails too. Looks like they sent out all of the acceptances yesterday and the rejections today.

Per sdccblog, Ace page updated:
"UPDATE 4/15/15: All registrants will be responded to by 5pm PDT today. We are currently planning to open the system to the public on June 8th to sell any remaining inventory that is left in the system. Please keep an eye on this page for future updates."
Also,
Q: Handicap Parking?
A: ADA spaces are first come first served. The Convention Center and Hilton Bay Front are the best choices for ADA parking.
Q: Will the passes sold on-line include a fee?
A: Yes, a convenience fee will be added per permit per day at checkout."
--they removed mention of the fee amount previously seen as $10 and $4.95/day.

I signed up from a bunch and all of them got rejected.

You can place yourself on the parking request list here.

I got a rejection email too.

I haven't had experience using the request thread before--if I have group 3 but really can only use Convention Center or Hilton, is it better for me to wait and see if there's either available for my purchase window? Or just post a request now, with the assumption that everything will be gone by that time? Thanks for any input!
Also, for the life of me, I don't know what one of the verification answers is. Whenever I get the one asking for the other convention I just have to refresh until another question comes up. (lame = me)

None of us have used the request thread before, because it's new this year. If you have suggestions for improvement, please let us know.
At this point, all people can offer is buying spots in one of the groups. If you are only willing to accept the convention center and the Hilton Bayfront, then you would want the first 2 groups. Group 3 *might* have those lots, but might not. It's up to you if you want to accept an offer or not.
OTOH, if you get an offer and don't accept it, then what will you do? What's your alternative? These are all things to consider when you decide to accept an offer or not.
Keep in mind that the people offering spots are doing so out of the goodness of their hearts - there is no remuneration or bonus for anyone who does so. We're all just trying to help each other out. The truth is that there were only 500 people in each group, so the few Group 1s and 2s that were allocated to people on this forum are (for the most part) being used by those people, and there are fewer to give to others. However if people got multiple allocations, then their later groups could be offered on the parking request list.
-
On the Ace Parking FAQ in regards to parking at the Hilton or the Convention Center, it says they can only guarantee those locations in group 1-3 so if you're in group 3 then I would 'think' you'd be ok!
Having said that, Ace is MESS!

As you said, Ace is a mess. You are correct that previously they said Groups 1-3 would be in the 'prime' spots. However yesterday on the Group 1 confirmations Ace changed their statement to say that only Group 1 was guaranteed such spots, since CCI had yet to tell them how many spots would be reserved for vendors/exhibitors.

Thanks--yes, I know it would be a long shot either way, and it's great that anybody even considers going to all this trouble for complete strangers!
My thing is that I currently have a kind of crappy hotel through SDCC that will apparently take about 40 minutes on the shuttle one way, which assures that I'll never go back during the day to drop stuff off, get food, etc. If I got Convention Center parking, I'd try to get a cheaper/free alternative further out for some of the days and then use my car as a storage base. If I got parking much further out, I'd probably again never take time out to go there, so it wouldn't be much different from just leaving the car at the hotel and shuttling.

Thank you! I wasn't putting in a space.

I emailed ACE about the convenience fee for the Convention Center and HBF. They just emailed back that the convenience fee will be $7 for both of those lots. Still more than the other lots. :-\ Never thought it would be possible to make it to the front of a lottery and still be pretty unhappy--ACE is special indeed.

Well, at least they decreased it some! I complained on their FB page, it was shady how they changed it like that just to gouge.

I wonder why they reduced it? Maybe they were getting some kind of pushback?

"Q: Why am I being charged a convenience fee?
A: Yes, we do our best to make pre-purchasing parking as easy as possible so that fans can reserve parking ahead of time online. The convenience fee covers resources spent on making this option available and include, web hosting, ticketing hardware, customer support, training, credit and debit card processing services, merchant fees, computer hardware and software, telephone lines, labor and more."
-
I'll never understand convenience fees. If you want $25 for a parking spot, just charge that. There's nothing convenient about a $15 spot turning into $25. And those are the cheap lots. Tailgate is $40 per day. With fees, that's $225 for the week. That's a comic con ticket. It's madness.

My understanding is that the Convention Center and Hilton regulate prices on those lots. The $15 goes to either CC or Hilton. The service fee is what goes to Ace. I'm not sure they're allowed to show the price as anything but what the convention center and the Hilton want to charge. Otherwise people who drive up to park without a reservation would be paying a 'lower price' than people who reserve ahead of time (not during the con, when it's all sold out, but the rest of the year) and it would be 'confusing'.
But yes, I would also prefer they just put it all together into one price, instead of this sneaky 'tacking on' like they do.
-
I got my so sorry, no parking for you email. Now what? I can't imagine 4 days of comic con without parking!
If you have a vehicle you can drive to a nearby park & ride and take either the trolley or a city bus. The trolley is reliable & affordable; while not as convenient as having your car within a five or ten minute walk, the trolley is a great alternative IMO. I think all of the hotels through Comic-Con's service are on either a trolley or bus line, or VERY close driving distance to a stop or park & ride.
-
Well, at least they decreased it some! I complained on their FB page, it was shady how they changed it like that just to gouge.
While it would be nice if they did lower the price a bit, it seems even shadier since this makes it obvious they jacked up prices solely to gouge SDCCI attendees. Shameful...

That's all fine & good, but doesn't explain why the "convenience fee" for SDCCI is 2-5 times MORE than the convenience fees during other times of the year (for example, convenience fee for Convention Center right now is $2.45 vs the $7 or $10 quoted by ACE for SDCCI week). I get "convenience" = infrastructure, but the price gouging of Comic-Con attendees is not cool: especially the cheaper & more desirable lots having higher fees than the other lots.

So much this. I think the difference in the fee structure between operated vs owned lots is really the damning evidence that they are out for a money grab. They are using the exact same infrastructure to provide tickets (besides their email shenanigans) as last year, but somehow this year the operated lots (HBF and CC) have a higher convenience fee than the owned lots? I've put in an email to the CCI staff about the obvious gouging. I can't imagine the owners of the lots would be happy knowing that they are attempting to regulate the cost for attendees just to find out ACE is tacking on extra cost to park at just those particular lots. I know CCI is completely unrelated from the parking sale, but they've been concerned with obvious price gouging in the past. Hopefully they can bring more pressure to bear on ACE before the start of the actual sale.

This is great news, and looks to be a significant change from previous years when Convention Center was the only lot open at 5!
-
When you stay in a hotel which offers parking (for example, the Hilton Bayfront), how many cars per room can you park? I would expect a "Twin" room ought to be allowed to park two cars but it would not surprise me if they only permit one car per room.

500 and 800 spaces would give 'good' parking to Group 1 and most of Group 2. Not as much as 'first 3 groups' like they claimed originally.

In the past you have been allowed to park more than one car (I've only ever brought 2) but the discounted* parking rate only applied to the first car.
*It was discounted from the regular self-park rate by a whopping $3

I thought each group was 500 people each.
So Groups 1 and 2 would be covered, and there would be a decent amount left for Group 3.

yep. I figured a good chunk was probably blocked off for other use like staff, exhibitors, etc.

I have to load and unload for my booth so the convention center is a must, otherwise I wouldn't mind parking farther away. With a 10x10 booth I was able to get 2 spaces max, we only needed the second for 2 of the days. The exhibitor parking registration was pushed back a couple of hours, other than that it was uneventful. It opened Tuesday and closes this coming Tuesday. I do not have the ability to get more parking, it's done by registered email addy and I used both. Convention Center parking came to $22 a day with the"convenience fee."

Interesting... the exhibitor period ends Tuesday, but Group 1 begins on Monday. I wonder if that's why Ace said only Group 1 was guaranteed Convention Center or Hilton Bayfront?

it actually makes sense to me. If they add up the fixed amt of exhibitor&staff parking possibilities, then add in a comfortable amt of attendees so that if everyone bought the max amt the capacity of undercon parking would be reached Both of those groups, staff/exhibitor & group 1 attendee would end at the same time.
this way, if any staff/exhibitor/group1 attendee would be get undercon parking. Any parking not bought would go to group 2. This is why i am recommending anyone who's in group 2 to to log on at the appointed time on the off chance that they can get a better parking spot.
-
I assume that exhibitors probably bought what they needed the first day it was opened. In the past, it's obviously been the loading days that sold out first from what I can tell. In rereading the initial email, it says the portal is exhibitor only through tomorrow. My husband told me Tuesday when I asked, so blame him for the error! :P But I forgive him because he was online at the moment the portal opened to get the parking we needed, otherwise......yikes! :o
-
That makes even more sense.
Glad you're locked in for parking!
-
I agree, it makes more sense to have the exhibitor timeframe end before attendee timeframe begins.
Glad you're all set, Theresa!

But the convention center has something like 1900+ spots for parking. I assumed the 500 guaranteed spots were just for regular attendees and they allocated a separate amount for exhibitors (so overlapping purchase times wouldn't really matter). At least I'm really hoping that's the case because the best I got was group 2.

Ah, yes. Tomorrow. Wrong date. ^__^; Silly time zones.
The point is that only people in Group 1 can purchase permits in the meantime. The other groups (2 to 6) will have to wait their turns, and the quantity of the parking permits available for each lot or structure isn't guaranteed for the different group numbers. Whatever you see available at the time is whatever you can get.

Yeah ever since ACE when to pre-selling parking, Wednesday Convention Center parking sold out ASAP (likely to exhibitors), if Wed. was even available to general public.

I do recall one year (maybe 2010?) where the convention center was not available at all on Wednesday, even when the parking sale for attendees opened up. The Exhibitors had literally taken all of it. I'm not sure why that one year was so bad, since every year since there has been some attendee parking on Wednesday at the convention center.

So I guess the ACE system is working. My sister is in group 1 and it's showing up correctly for her. I'm in Group 2 but I was curious so I logged on and nothing shows up for me. I'm glad to know it's working correctly.

I was able to purchase all 5 days parking at the convention center. No problems logging on or completing transaction. I would suggest printing a copy of your purchase receipt which has your name and address showing. The parking voucher shows barcode and purchased parking dates only. O0

it's worth noting, use the link chris h. linked to as that will take you directly to the sdcc buying page, of course once you're logged on.

Ah good idea. Since we have no idea how much inventory will be left I plan on logging in right at 10am and I'll use that link.
BTW I have a group 3 to offer up (and a group 5 and 6) but since everyone in the request thread has been requesting CC or Hilton I'm not sure if I should bother.

I was wondering the same thing since all the requests are for CC/HBF. I just PM'd the first person I saw that said they would take CC/HBF OR anything else. I am sure there are some group 4, 5, 6s out there that folks are willing to donate. I would recommend that if you haven't rec'd a Group 1 yet, might be time to modify your request to take any group that is left. Somewhat close parking is better than no parking.
-
I had the same thing: people did not want my spots because they were hoping for something 'better'. So I figured I'd wait and offer them out again once the earlier groups' buying times are completed. ;)

In and out in 5 min. Wed-Sat, I'll take the trolley for Sunday!! 1st time ever to park in convention center lot!! >:D

yes, what you need is an winning email. those passed along on this forum should be without a requirement for payment. I suspect there are a few group 3's & 4's out there. by all guesstimates, it's likely they won't supply a under con or hilton spot but might get you into the tailgate or horton.
frankly, those groups won't be on sale for a few weeks, so you've got time. I did see you on the list, keep it updated ;) something will happen.

There might even be some Group 2's that won't need parking
Otherwise, I got the impression that ACE will put all other available parking up for sale after this all ends. While it is easy to freak out at this point for not having gotten in on the Lottery, last year as late as June or July there was still quite a bit of prepaid parking available to purchase on ACE's website: not convention center or Hilton Bayfront, but still downtown lots available

Did anyone else get a strange e-mail today stating:
The Comic-Con parking permit sale registration period has ended. We are no longer accepting registration entries.
Thank You...

Trying to make sense of it since I already recieved a notice that I was not selected two weeks ago.

i also got that email. i contacted Jon G. at Ace. He said "We're not 100% sure what happened, but it appears there was a batch of emails that never made it out of our email server and this morning when we rebooted the server for maintenance, they were sent out. "
the emails i got were from non winning accts.

Sounds like a minor glitch. Nothing to see here.

I love it! Meanwhile when I tweeted them weeks ago I had not received my email, they insisted all the emails had gone out, and I should check my spam folder. I didn't bother arguing with them, but you'd think they wouldn't be so confident that all went smoothly given their track record.
-
Received an email from ACE today as a reminder when parking goes on sale for me, that was nice of them.
-
Group 2 went smoothly and quickly. I was able to purchase a 5-day parking permit for the Convention Center.
-
yes group 2 went nice and smooth.
Thanks Transmute Jun for the group 2 spot.
-
to be honest it was somewhat anti dramatic... :o
curious to see when under con sells out....
-
Yup the purchase went smoothly. And as an fyi there was parking at hilton bayfront and the convention center available.
-
Was able to get convention center parking (thurs-sun) this morning....Thanks to semigeekgirl for the group 2 spot!!! Really appreciate the kindness from this forum!
-
I too as able to get Convention Center parking. HUGE thanks to The Gossamer for that: my wife will very much appreciate the ease of parking (especially with our baby)!!

I'd rather it be less dramatic than more dramatic! ;)

No KIDDING! The rest of ACE's process was dramatic enough and I appreciated buying w/piece of mind!
-
Today was very smooth, best sale and good spots were available as 10am when I logged in for people in other groups, good luck.

UPDATE (as of now):
Convention Center is only full for Sunday, available Wednesday-Saturday
Hilton Bayfront is available all days

That's not bad, given that most of Group 2 has probably already gone in and purchased.
-
Glad you were able to get a parking spot.
Thank you! The hotel room seems to be working out, too. Thank goodness for decent
customer service reps.
-
Got my parking thanks to NCDS. Convention Center parking is the best.
-
Great to see folks in group 2 still getting HBF and CC parking. Hope there are good spots left for the remaining groups as well since so many CC were avail for group 2
-
Yes, convention center is best. Too bad I need the Hilton instead in order to park overnight...
-

Just so you know, the Ace parking is *not* overnight. To park overnight you must obtain parking through the Hilton at checkin and it will cost $32 per night (self-park_. However it does come with in/out privileges, and they won't tow your car if you're there between 2 am and 5 am.
-
I've had no problems parking there overnight the past few years and knew people who would
enter the lot at 2 or 3am before getting in line!
Last year, I had a room at the Hilton but thought it would be closer to $40 a night so I still
used Ace the whole time and had no issues. (Of course I found out from my roommate who
needed parking at the last minute and went through the hotel that it ended up being $25
so she basically paid the same amount as me but with in/out privileges.)
But YMMV...
-
Convention Center is only full for Sunday, available Wednesday-Saturday
that actually makes sense. I can imagine some of the vendors only use the underground parking on load in&out days
-
Looks like I missed the boat for parking registration ...
I know ACE parking will be opening up any remaining parking spaces in June, but are there any other viable options for parking besides parking far away, walking far, or taking the shuttle/taxi/carpooling?
I have an elderly disabled mother-in-law I will be taking to her first con and my wife (their 1st Comic-con/my 2nd) ... I'm looking to get parking for both Friday and Saturday, but it would be great if Thursday and Sunday were available too. Hoping for convention parking so my mom doesn't have to walk far ... will probably need a wheelchair/use her walker in the very least.
Please advise!
This is my first time on this forum. Thank you in advance for any good tips you can throw my way! :)
-Andrew
-
Rent her a wheelchair or a rascal. You 99.9% will not be getting Convention Center parking in June. There's also the trolley which you can park at a park and ride station and ride that in and it drops across from the Con. However, if your mother doesn't have the stamina to walk a few blocks from somewhere like the Horton Plaza parking lot (which I think will have openings along with some of the other further our lots), I'd just suggest the wheelchair or rascal anyways for the Con. Hell, it shreds me and I have no mobility issues.
-
I second what cracksback said. Last year i had HBF parking and still walked over 100k steps per day. Even with CC parking, it's a ton of waking.
There is a parking permit request thread. You can add your name to see if anyone has any extra winning emails they can give you. Not sure if any CC parking is left.
-
Thank you cracksback and Louie_rob_m for your responses!
Yes, I'll definitely need to get a wheelchair for her ... hopefully, they will have some available to rent at the convention center?
Where is this "parking permit request thread"? I looked around to no avail ....

I have never heard of wheelchair rentals, but i have never actually checked into it

Yes, Disabled Services has wheelchairs and electric scooters for rent. It's like a $20 deposit for a wheelchair and I think they hold on to your ID also. Rentals are for 3 hours only, but you can keep them longer. I would suggest going to Disabled Services early, because they usually rent out all their wheelchairs and scooters within the first few hours of the Con.
You might want to contact Disabled Services directly since each year things change with their policies. In other words, my info might be wrong. :)
I was going to add that you might want to find a spot near the Con (like the Marriott Marquis) where you could drop off your wife and mom, and then go park. Then you could meet up with them at a designated area (Disabled Services, why not).
-
Dear Louie_rob_m and frgx,
All great advice ... thank you!
Thank you so much for the link ... VERY informative!
So, how do I know I am getting the actual "real parking permits" emailed to me after I send payment through PayPal? Is it just basically using the honor system? Is there a way to check?
Thanks again!
-

It will depend on the person who is giving you the buying spot. They may set up an account where you can g in and buy yourself? If they want to buy it on your behalf, you will have to arrange with them how to make payment.
-
Thank you Transmute Jun and everyone who gave information and contacted me! Looks like my family and I are set! =)

Glad to hear that, Andrew!

About how many emails did most people submit to Ace? Between my husband and I we did 10, and not one spot. Sorry if this was asked earlier in the thread, I was just wondering. Honestly, I kind of miss the cut-throat website crashing of last years parking sales.

No luck with 4 emails. They were all similar, so maybe they were tossed out as duplicates.
I miss the soft openings that they used to do. With that method, the people who were really paying attention got first dibs.
-
I miss the soft openings too. I miss them for parking and badges. Unfortunately, this is the new reality.

Between my wife, son, and I we put out maybe half a dozen and got one Group 2
-
I sent out 3 or 4 and got one Group 3.
-
I did about 20 best group was group 4.
-
did about 8-10 emails with about 4 being the same username with different isp's and got 2 x group 3's with the same username.
-
We submitted from 6 different addresses and none were picked

For anyone in Group 2, does it look like there will be any Convention Center parking available for Group 3?
-
i think i heard today that under con was still available wed-sat. it's sold out on Sun

I sent out six E-mails, only my default E-mail got me Group 6, the other five were rejects.

Looks like Wed-Sat. is still available as of Friday morning (PST). I would think at this point Group 3 should be good, at least those that jump on buying parking right when it goes on sale (impossible to know how much is left). If nothing else, I would guess Group 3 looks good for at least Hilton next door, which is almost as good as Convention Center parking in my experience.
In past years, Wednesday Convention Center always sold out first, likely because of vendors loading in for Preview Night. It's kind of odd that Sunday sold out first this year; guess vendors load in Monday or Tuesday but want to/have to get out of Convention Center ASAP Sunday.
-
I agree with Perc, it sounds like Group 3 (if they buy right when their window opens) should be good for convention center or Hilton Bayfront.
This is certainly much better than we were hoping for when they first distributed the groups!
-

Definitely; I thought even ACE was saying they were only confident saying Group 1 would definitely get Convention Center & Hilton.
I'm all set with parking/trolley/whatever, but it really is fascinating to see now how long it takes for Convention Center & Hilton to sell out. At this point, Hilton might be available for Group 4 & 5 (assuming the bast majority of Groups 1&2 have bought convention center + the significantly larger Hilton garage).
I'm curious also to know how many people/emails were in a group. Also, I wonder how many people got multiple Group emails and haven't used 'em (like people who got Group 1 & 2, used 1, and 2 just languished unused: or even two Group 1s or something). I know we're maybe more savvy with helping others out when we've gotten lucky w/extras but I have to imagine there are a myriad of people not hooked into forums or FB pages who just don't think to help others out or don't feel super comfortable sharing email info or whatnot.
Also interesting, I think those who are in Group 1 or 2 can buy parking for multiple sites per day. For example, if I bought Saturday Convention Center, I think I can also buy Saturday Hilton: has anyone tried that? If that's the case then folks who don't mind Hilton over Convention Center (and didn't get an early group, or any group) could benefit maybe from folks who already got Convention Center parking
-
I believe there were 500 in each group and you could only buy for one place per day. So if I bought at CC for Saturday that is the only spot I can buy for Saturday. You have to log in to your account, so Ace KNOWS what you already have bought.

Yeah you're right, I just tried that: I tried to click a button but it wouldn't let me.
-
I think Ace was just being cautious, because they didn't know how many spots exhibitors would take. Clearly many of the convention center spots were available, as well as a lot of the Hilton Bayfronts.
-

I honestly dunno if I would've guessed there were 1000+ convention center parking spots. I just looked it up and there are just under 2000 Convention Center spots (1,950 to be exact, according to SD Convention Center website) so perhaps Group 3 and maybe some Group 4 will be good to go, depending on how many vendors bought parking.
I can't find any numbers on how many spots Hilton Bayfront holds, but I would guess easily more than Convention Center, meaning it's maybe possible that after the last Group's week when parking goes on sale to the general public, some Hilton Bayfront might still be available.

Interesting: between this and Convention Center website there is a discrepancy of around 350 spots: http://visitsandiego.com/location
Regardless, thanks for the info:interesting that Hilton only has a few hundred more spots than Convention Center

It could be that this is the number of spots Ace is *allowed* to sell. The convention center may want to hold onto some spots for their own use. Obviously the Hiltons Bayfront does as well, as they need parking for their own guests.
-
Just keeping my fingers crossed for Convention Center parking come Monday morning :)
-
I got the parking that I needed-- Thursday at the Convention Center and Sunday at the Hilton.
From what I can see, at least Wed. through Sat. is still available at the Hilton, and Fri. only at the Convention Center.
Thanks to Alyssa for helping me get parking!

All parking for Convention Full, but keep checking do open up, try late at night. Hilton all open for all days.

Group 3 started today--just got Convention Center parking for Wed-Sat. Phew!

Thanks so much to Alyssa for your help!!

I literally watched CC Wed & Friday sell out in front of me, crazy! Thankfully got Hilton Bayfront.
-
I'm glad you guys were able to get your spots! It looks like there wasn't much left at the convention center.

I picked up Hilton for all days just in case, but would I be able to purchase CC if it becomes available? Parking randomly opens at night?
Thank you, Alyssa!

In past years spots would open us as people refunded their spots for whatever reason: this is a new system ACE is using this year, so who knows what they'll do this year.
You can refund pre-paid parking as late as late June 27
-
I take it that you can buy parking in different locations for different days? In other words, if you can't get all four days in one location, you are allowed to purchase the remaining day(s) for another location at the same time? Just wanted make sure I was able to get parking for all the days, even if it is all in the same location.
-

Yes. The opening screen has all lots in a 'grid' type setting with each day as separate block; there is even a map of the downtown area that shows explicitly where each lot is located in relation to Convention Center (click the lot 'arrow' on the map and it highlights the line where the lot is on the grid). If a lot/day is available it will have the price; if it's not available it will be 'blacked-out' with a LF (lot full). You can pick/choose whichever options you want.
If I can figure out how to post a screen cap I will (if there's not one already posted). If you look at their FAQ and scroll to the bottom, the lot grid is similar to what they have with their pricing: http://www.aceparking.com/comic-con/

Luckily had a friend who had Group 3 and was able to log in right at 10am, got me the first 3 days at CC and Sunday at HBF... sounds like the CC sold out quickly after. Glad that he was able to get in right at 10am.

I think were ready for the Con to begin.

I'm with you: doesn't feel great?! I'm at a point now where I'm all set with everything, now I just need to finish the school year (just under 5 weeks to go teaching - woohoo!!!), and a few other responsibilities and I'm all set!!
Then we'll have one glorious week of Comic-Con before we can start stressing all over again... :-\
:P :P

Thanks to Alyssa and the team here, I also was able to get parking for all days at the Hilton Bayfront today. Like some of the other folks on here, I saw the parking at the Convention Center disappear quickly around 10 or so this morning. I decided to take the Hilton for consistency, which will be really helpful on that Friday when they do the Adult Swim panel all day at the hotel (assuming that happens again this year).
Getting the parking squared away sure was a load off my mind. Thanks again for everyone's help on here, and I look forward to meeting a few of you (at least) at the Con this year! ;D

Ideally it would work out this way for all things, but yes, I agree that working together as a group, we can help far more people.

Thanks to the most wonderful member Angology I just got 4 days at the Hilton. I can't tell you what a relief this is. I've lurked on this site for a couple of years but only just joined.I was very skeptical of all this group buying but now I'm a believer.

Got the parking i was hoping for! Just purchased thur.-sun at Hilton! Convention center was all sold out, but all days for Hilton was still available.
Thank you so much Alyssa for helping me get parking.

I just got Thursday and Sunday passes at Hilton Bayfront. I could have gotten Friday and Saturday, but my friend suggested taking the trolley on those days to avoid traffic jams as I live in San Diego.
Do you think that was a good idea? ...I suppose I still have a view more days to buy other passes if I change my mind.
I thought Thursday and Sunday could be my shopping days. I don't know how well this will work with any panels, though.
Thanks Alyssa for your help in getting these two days!
-
Lunate,
I have found that all of the days are about the same around the convention center and over the last couple of years, I've been able to park in the Hilton in the mornings without much trouble. I come up Harbor Dr. from the Logan area and it hasn't been a major problem for me any morning.

while i don't know where Logan is, coming to the con from the south is wicked simple- hardly any traffic. I'd buy all 4 days without a second thought

A few thoughts from someone who has done both over the years:
* if you plan on buying a bunch of stuff or bringing a bunch of stuff with you, parking is the way to go. I travel with at least one kid, and sometimes multiple kids & multiple adults. Having a trunk full of food, drinks, etc. is always very helpful. If you buy stuff being able to cross a small service road to get to a garage (where the Hilton Bayfront is, across from Hall H line) is a huge plus.
* if you plan on driving in between 5am and 6/6:30ish, traffic might not be so bad: at least it hasn't been too bad the past 15 or so years. Remember that Thursday is a business day downtown, so not only will you be coming in with Comic-Con people, but also with the regular downtown employees (i.e. if you come in 7 amish or later you're going to be fighting lots of traffic).
* if you're even slightly claustrophobic, the trolley is a bad idea. Unless you want to practice for the Exhibit Hall, in which case if you can deal with trolley wall-to-wall people you will be 100% OK with anything Comic-Con throws your way!
* if you want to save money, I suspect a weekly trolley pass will be the cost of one day of parking. If you drive in with more than two people the cost-savings might swing towards the Hilton garage. I was going to take the trolley this year after getting annoyed with ACE, but I realized I'd be driving downtown with four people most days, and five people a few days. It would be cheaper to get the Hilton parking pass per-day than for all of those people to pay the trolley every day. The Day Tripper pass is $5 a person, and while there will likely be a week-long pass for Comic-Con the cost between the two is almost a wash so getting parking works for me personally on all levels.
Note that I live in San Diego, and while I don't go downtown on a regular basis I know my way around. I get if someone not familiar with the roads would not want to fight traffic (especially with construction going on downtown right by the Convention Center this year) and might feel better with the trolley

I can't predict what this year will be like, however last year and the year before I never had any problem with traffic jams Thursday through Sunday. Then again, I usually show up at the crack of dawn (5am).

There is construction in what used to be called the "campus lot" which is why it is no longer available for parking. It was one of the lots across from Petco.
-

Just a touch south: in between Petco Park & the Tailgate Parking lot for sure Park Blvd. might be closed by Petco, but I don't remember explicitly). I went to a Padres game a few weeks ago and there was quite a bit of construction around the south side of Petco. There's also at least one parking structure that was torn down and is being redeveloped into a building (Parcel C lot according to Padres' website, which had 500 spaces). According to the Padres' website:
The ballpark district is thriving like never before. Neighborhood development, including the Sempra Energy tower just beyond center field and the soon-to-be-developed mixed use building at what used to be the Parcel C parking lot (Park Blvd. and Imperial Ave.) will have a significant impact on the way fans have grown accustomed to visiting Petco Park over the past 11 seasons.
IIRC that lot was in between Park Blvd. and 12th Avenue: in between Petco Park & the Tail Gate parking
-
It's the lot referred to as Campus Lot by Ace during previous SDCC parking sales. It is also called Campus Lot on this map.

That has some lots obviously not available (like the 'campus' or 'Petco C' lot, as well as the Petco 'D' lots that are typically used by exhibitors now-a-days), and some that are hotel lots probably just available for guests. But a decent idea of all available options
There are also lots north of the convention center on harbor that are a slight walk but still likely affordable options (like near Midway, for example)
-
There is construction in what used to be called the "campus lot" which is why it is no longer available for parking. It was one of the lots across from Petco.
oh thank god
i was worried it'd be on harbor drive south-- one of my hidden jem's

How is Group 5 fairing this week (May 26th) so far - Anyone have reports yet?
I was just wondering how Group 5 is doing in the parking ticket purchasing - are there still spots open at the Bayfront Hilton?
I am in Group 6 - if the Bayfront Hilton gets sold out before I can buy my tickets - would the next best/closest lot available be the Tailgate lot?
-
Still Hilton is all days open, should be fine.

I bought for a friend at work. When you update your account with the eligible email, saw that the billing address doesn't have to be the same email adddress. I'm thinking that's the email for the voucher confirmation.
Update: Seems that Ace pulled the 6/1 post from the website!
-
We were in Group Six. I just bought all five days of parking at the Hilton Bay Front. As of five minutes ago, parking was also available at Tailgate Park, MTS, Padres Parkade and Horton Plaza.

Awesome! I'm pretty surprised that there is still Hilton Bayfront parking left for all five days. I don't know if that's because there were more spaces for sale than we thought for each/less people buying parking than the 500-per group allotment (there are just under 4000 between Convention Center & Hilton Bayfront, so I guess mathematically if each Group is 500 then there would still be some spots from Hilton open AFTER Group 6 this week), or maybe more people are content taking the trolly or public transportation.
Regardless, I'm excited for the Group 6 folks who were able to get good parking at a reasonable price, and I would guess mathematically people who 'lost' the lotto, didn't get help from folks here, etc. and have to wait until next week could still be in decent shape for Hilton Bayfront provided they log in ASAP when the public sale starts (and ACE doesn't implode from traffic issues)
-
I too am wondering what will happen next Monday - if it will be a non-event, or if there will be a deluge of people trying to grab parking and breaking the system!
-
I also wonder if Ace will have some reserved Convention spaces open up for the public sale or if this was all that was left. This year they are charging a fee if you need to get refunded. If by some crazy chance there are some Convention spots open and we already have Hilton and want to switch, then do you suppose they would charge a fee or could you just edit the lots?
-
I suspect it's a moot point. I don't think there will be any convention center spots next week. They dont' have any reason to 'hold back' any spots.
It *is* possible that the exhibitor allotment was smaller than they anticipated, but I think they would have known that by now. Exhibitor parking sales finished the day before Group 1 began.

Wow. All of that is, of course absolutely true... but does it strike anyone else as sort of cowardly and cold to post that statement this far after the fact? Especially considering just having the "parking" page as part of their site seems to imply that they will be posting helpful information on it.
-
I agree. Their site said for months that parking information was 'coming soon' and now this? That's really a slap in the face. There's no way CCI didn't know about the fact that parking already went on sale.

IDK; at this point only Convention Center is sold out, so there is a TON of parking open to the general public.
What if CCI & ACE got into it a bit 'offline' and CCI didn't necessarily want to promote ACE heavily on their website? Maybe CCI is not a fan of ACE hiking up their prices and doesn't want to give them free advertisement/business? Maybe ACE asked them NOT to promote it because ACE was worried their half-arsed system couldn't handle the immense pressure of 100k+ people trying to get parking.
What I'm saying is there are a TON of reasons why CCI was a bit more low-key about ACE parking. We are in the last day or two of the "Group" sales and the ONLY stuff that was available for sale to the public that is sold out is Convention Center. Everything else is open right now, and will likely remain open when ACE puts everything up next Monday. They're giving the internet-reading public a half-week's notice that general parking will go on sale to ALL next week, so anyone who needs parking that wasn't part of the Group sales can have their choice of almost ALL available ACE parking pre-sales.
-
It's not that I don't think they had a reason for doing it this way, but I still think there were definitely more attendee-friendly ways to go. Even, just, posting this exact same statement 3 months ago. Or removing the "parking" page from their site entirely.
-

Agreed. They knew this was going on, so they shouldn't have kept the 'information coming soon.' on their webpage. If they didn't want to post or promote Ace, they should have just removed the page entirely.

I guess; it's cool of them to post ACE info now to give folks a head's up regarding next week. I've seen plenty of people on FB and Twitter who are seemingly clueless in regards to parking, so CCI giving them a link isn't a bad thing.
All I was saying is there are a plethora of reasons why CCI has promoted ACE parking in this way, and automatically taking the "that's crappy of CCI" route isn't logical w/out all of the information.
-
I try to maintain faith in CCI and stick up for them. I understand they have complex considerations to take into account. But their intentions, no matter how good, don't change the outcome of their actions. And considering how many "clueless" people ARE out there waiting for information, this still seems crappy to me. If you're a newbie, and not all over social media, you might reasonably assume that the "parking" page on CCI's site was the place to go for up-to-date information. And if you have mobility issues or giant cosplays, today you might be very disappointed to see that CCI has finally updated the page - far too late for you to get Convention Center parking, which you were really hoping for. Sure, CCI was doing their best and didn't intend to screw you over - but I'd bet you're still feeling sort of screwed.
Besides, if some CCI staffers do read these forums, hopefully they'll take this as constructive criticism: there are better ways to do this.
-
I wonder if ACE even informed CCI about their pre-sale 'lottery' type system? Things seemed like at least a slight cluster, with ACE contradicting themselves a few times in responses, stating "service fees" are one prices and then backing down and charging slightly less, etc. It wouldn't surprise if ACE kind of went a bit half-cocked with their 'lottery' process: a sort of "figure things out as we go along" type of operation. It's possible CCI wasn't aware of what was happening until after the sign-up had ended and then at that point, it's much better to just wait until closer to the general sales. CCI could've left the place-holder of "parking" knowing they'd put info up at the general sales, but if things happened w/out CCI's input or with ACE not notifying CCI sufficiently, it's much better, IMO, to not create more of a panic if it's not necessary. At this point there is still a TON of parking, trolley, shuttle service, etc. available to everyone beginning June 8 (more parking than I would've guessed) & I think this is not really that big of a deal. I don't ever recall CCI announcing parking going on sale before hand, though I could be mistaken.
I guess I'm with CCI in the sense that it's not their responsibility AT ALL to give constant updates on matter not their domain: just like they didn't update regarding Matty Collector pre-sales. Advertising for ACE, when CCI has a GREAT service w/the shuttle & a good relationship with the city in regards to public transportation, is a side benefit for their attendees, not really a required service: they don't have to hold everyone's hands about EVERY aspect of the convention, certainly not when it comes to advertising another for-profit company to help another company's business.
-
Agree completely that the lion's share of the blame belongs to Ace Parking.
Also agree that CCI is under no obligation to provide this information.
But, IMO, having the "parking" page creates an expectation of it having the most relevant, official information. If CCI can't or doesn't want to provide that, then they should delete the page, or make it a static page that says, "We do not administer parking. There are many convenient lots around San Diego. Parking at the convention center itself is handled by Ace Parking."
Half-measures just confuse everybody.
-
I have no problem with them waiting until the general sale. That lottery was a half-baked fiasco I wouldn't have wanted the appearance of being involved with......and once they post it, they are involved and start getting hammered with emails and complaints even if they say a million times that they have nothing to do with it, because it is on their page.
I wouldn't have posted about it until general sale either. Plenty of parking left, even at Bayfront by all accounts. That lottery really just messed things up.

I totally agree with you! CCI keeping the "parking" page open as a placeholder seems logical, since at the very least I assumed they would post about the ACE general sale (which is clearly when the majority of parking-buyers would likely purchase pre-paid parking anyway since only 3k max went into the Group sales). Crappy, IMO, would be if CCI said nothing until after Bayfront sells out in the general sales. If we're being fair (or even blunt), CCI has a TON of their own business they need to get together/inform the public about: shuttle schedules, new venues & locations being used, area/local maps around Convention Center that has food & entertainment options, and oh yeah, scheduling for ALL of the SDCCI events (panels, film festival, art show, anime, gaming stuff, artist alley, etc). I don't fault CCI for waiting until after the lottery bluster cuss ($.02 to Fantastic Mr. Fox) ends, but BEFORE general sales begin, to put a link & parking update on their site: they can't keep a running tab on all 3rd party interests (like the Funko Friday ticket sales: I bet a TON of people would've liked to have heard a head's up from CCI about that start of that).
I guess we all can agree to disagree. The dust seems to have settle on ACE's Group sales and we'll see how much of a huge demand there is for parking in the next few weeks (i.e. what else will sell out once the sales go to the general public).
For those who haven't gotten parking yet, everything but convention center parking & a few business lots are still available all days. Trolly rules for the most part, and there will likely be plenty of shuttle service throughout the week
-
JMHO, but there's a huge difference between parking and Funko Fridays. Funko Fridays are an offsite event that has nothing to do with SDCC. Parking is a legitimate concern for many people who have actual badges to SDCC and plan to use the parking to attend the convention itself. You cannot compare the two situations.
I agree the lottery was a mess (I think pretty much everyone does) and I would be willing to bet that the only reason Hilton Bayfront parking still seems to be around is because of the mess the lottery created. Remember, even Ace estimated that the Bayfront would be gone by the end of Group 3. So CCI didn't know what would be left (if anything) after the lottery groups went through. I still maintain that they should have updated with 'Ace is working on parking, here's a link to their site.' or taken down the parking page. It's easy to leave it 'up' but not visible to the general public. Parking is, for many, a necessary and important part of attending the convention. For locals, it is equivalent to 'hotel', because this is how they get to the con.
And yes, IIRC, in prior years, CCI posted more information about the parking situation... before parking passes actually went on sale.
-
A failwhale on CCI's part -> which I griped about much earlier in this thread -> to not mention something so closely related to their brand and the overall experience of their attendees who would've appreciated a heads-up of some kind from "the mothership" itself. There's *no way* CCI didn't know about the Ace lottery much earlier than today and it's not technically *that hard* to post a link and a few words; purely conjecture on my part, but this seems to have been a choice on their part to distance themselves and wait so long to say anything on their own website.
"What did you know, when did you know it and why sit on it for as long as you did?"
Would love to hear Mr. Glanzer's take on this.
Sample music on this item from their own FB page:

"Um. With the show about a month away, why does the parking page say "More information about Comic-Con 2015 is coming soon!" Usually you've provided a link to a parking vendor and the date parking is available. But it turns out that date has past and the vendor has already had their registration -- with no notice from SDCC on the website or here on Facebook. So those of us counting on SDCC to let us know are now stuck without parking. Help!!!!!"
(Luckily someone else replied about Hilton still being available)
-
They should just remove it. They are damned if they do and damned if they don't. No one is ever happy. They don't control it and any info on it is purely a courtesy, but even that isn't good enough for people. Everyone expects their hand to be held through it all and blame CCI for things that they don't control.
-
Does anyone know how parking at Hilton Bayfront actually works? How do they differentiate between cars that belong to guests of the hotel vs. cars that belong to non-guests? If you are a guest, do they take down your car information?
We actually are guests at the Hilton Bayfront this year for the first time. We need to bring 2 cars though, and I just called Hilton Bayfront. The guy told me the guest rates of $32/night for self parking and $42/night for valet, with in and out privileges, and said that only 1 car was allowed per room. However, he also mentioned that a "3rd party" (presumably Ace Parking) was running the parking and that I might want to buy a parking pass from them. Then I said that it was stated that Hilton Bayfront was not overnight parking. He then transferred me over to the management for "the 3rd party" to get more information, but I figured that wouldn't help, and they'd just tell me what the stated hours were anyway, so I hung up before anyone answered there.
So I guess my question is, how has parking worked at the Hilton in the past, whether you were a guest or non-guest? I believe I read on here that some people have parked there during the times when parking was supposedly closed there. Has anyone who was a guest parked more than one car there overnight?
-
When you check in and say that you need a parking space, you have to give them information about your car (such as make and model, and license plate). My guess is that they check the plates on all cars parked in the lot overnight (say, at 3 am).

Last year, I wanted to get in line before 5am, so when I arrived at 3am I found/parked in nearby street parking, then got in line... then a little before 5am had someone hold my place in line and went and moved my car from street parking into the Ace Parking, then got back in line... quite a hassle and not ideal but it worked... Are there even any lots that allow parking before 5am?

Thats what I was thinking. Ill park somewhere at around 4AM and my wife can just hold our spot in line. Cause the line wont move till later right? So she should still be in the same spot.

Yes, Horton Plaza is a 24/7 parking garage. Even though it says on Ace Parking that the hours are 5am-2am, that's not true. We've parked there overnight since 2012. I wrote a whole post about this on our website, if you're interested: http://www.gbreviews.com/sdcc-tips-parking/

Damn your making me second guess. Should have gotten that lot instead. I probably need to get there before 5AM for Hasbro line. Where could I park to for like 2hrs or less? Then move my car to bayfront lot at 5AM
-
Parking meters are not enforced until 8 am, generally, in the downtown area. You may be able to find something not too far over the footbridge that connects with the bayfront parking structure. That early in the morning could have spaces available.

Please do not cross-post similar comments in two different threads. (We're trying to keep things organized with topics in their own place, especially since the forums are getting more active as it gets closer to Comic-Con, and we would appreciate the help from veteran forum members like yourself to be good examples for newcomers. ^__~)
I did make a reply to your post in the public transportation thread, so check it out over here: http://friendsofcci.com/forum/index.php?topic=170.msg121248#msg121248

Once you pay for Ace parking does it matter what time you arrive or is the space guaranteed? What about going in and out? (Not that I plan to do that much, but I'm on a dual purpose visit to San Diego and it can't be helped) Thanks!

1) no in/out for ACE parking
2) pretty sure once you have parking you can come whoever. Obviously more difficult to find a space, but I think in theory (assuming no a-holes double park) if you have prepaid parking you're good for a spot

Ok bit the bullet and bought parking for 3 days - gulp, pricey!! But I'm staying in La Jolla so if we are hoping to get to convention center before 6 am, driving is probably my best bet. Thanks for all the help!!

Q: Handicap Parking?
A: ADA spaces are first come first served. The Convention Center and Hilton Bay Front are the best choices for ADA parking.
I hope this isn't a stupid question, but I need to find out for my father if the handicap spaces are "first come first served" for people who have already purchased parking at the Convention Center and Hilton? Or will there be handicap parking spaces available each day during the convention at "first come first serve" (for people who were unable to purchase a parking pass online)?
-
I'm gonna say you need purchased parking. Is there some law that paid lots have to let handicapped park without paying? I don't know, there could be.
-

you need to buy a parking pass to go inside to use the spaces.

Thanks for the responses and clarity. So now I am guessing that since both Convention Center and Hilton are full, that means parking is full for regular spaces and handicap spaces at those lots. My hope was that handicap spaces were treated differently from the regular sale and that my father would be able to buy a handicap parking pass the day he planned to attend but from my assumptions now I am thinking that is not possible... Thanks again for answering my question!

I would at least make the attempt to get parking. Make sure you show them your ADA parking placard.
This is just my opinion, but the Convention Center can't deny you ADA parking if there are spots available. And there have been many unused ADA parking spots every year that I have parked there.
There was a forum member a couple of years ago who said she had no problems arriving without pre-paid parking and was able to get an ADA spot when she showed them her DMV placard.

Question, for those with parking permits underneath the convention center -- do in/out privileges come along with holding that daily permit?
Just curious about that, in preparation for planning next year...
Thanks!

No, unfortunately, there are no in-and-out privileges for the convention center underground garage. Once you leave, that's it.

Adding on to what zero said. Once they scan your ticket they cross out your barcode for the day with sharpie so it can't be used again. I wouldn't want to go in/out anyways its a pain to leave even at late at night sometimes from my experience this year. Coming in the morning is fine however.
