Drive to Hazard Center and take the trolley in (I used to do this when I stayed with my friend who lived in SD)

I normally take the trolley but I can't spare the time now.  It's about 25 mins to drive but 2 hours for the trolley when all is said and done.  There's been no word about a trolley deal so there will probably not be more frequent trolleys like a normal comic-con.  To everyone that's only in San Diego for comic-con, the trolleys don't normally run that often.

I was hoping for a parking deal.  Since it's a holiday weekend, the pay parking lots should be reasonably empty.  I may just uber/lyft it in for convenience.

Um, can’t you park at the convention center or HBF? Make a parking reservation with Ace?

I looked online for Convention Parking availability - but could only find advance availability for Sept/Oct - didn't see anything for November yet?

Does anyone else on the forum have any info on this - has anyone purchased their parking at the Convention Center or Hilton Bayfront yet.

I could.  But it's not cheap.  I checked yesterday and at HBF right now, it's $15/day.  I don't know if they raise prices if there's a convention in town.  There also weren't that many spaces.  Out of 2000 spaces, only 347 were available on a covid era shoulder season morning.  I think factoring in cost and gas for my decidedly not fuel efficient car, it's not that much more to take in an Uber or Lyft.  That's much more convenient.  I won't have to deal with getting into the garage and hunting for a spot.  I can just tell the driver that I'm going to hop off at the next red light when I see the crowds.

I saw the same for HBF.  I think we'll have to wait a while to see if there are spots and at what price.

If it's like WonderCon, there likely won't be much 'advanced' parking sold months out like SDCCI.  That being said, there will likely be a TON of parking available downtown between Convention Center, Hilton Bayfront, and Padres parking sights.

Also, it's highly unlikely the trolley will be running 24/7, or the extended hours it runs during July's SDCCI.

FWIW, I went to a symphony concert at the (amazing!!!) new Shell on the evening of a Saturday night sold-out Padres game.  Traffic sucked on Harbor between the Hilton Bayfront light & the Convention Center garage entrance, but parking wasn't an issue: I bought Convention Center parking a few days before the concert and had no issues finding a spot.

I haven't seen anything about parking yet either but Twitchcon had similar numbers to what they are trying to target for SE it was FCFS and pretty easy to get a spot underneath the convention center in the morning. I don't think it will be a problem finding a spot somewhere downtown especially since they are still selling badges.

Parking

ACE PARKING

Ace Parking will be running the same lottery process for Comic-Con Special Edition that they did for Comic-Con 2019. The lottery registration will open October 19, 2021.

Entries for the lottery will be accepted until Thursday, October 28. Ace will hold the lottery drawing on Friday, October 29 and divide the selected entries into groups.

On Monday, November 1, the system will open and be restricted to the people in group one only. Each week thereafter the system will open to the next group until all groups have had a chance to purchase their parking permits. At the end of the group sales, the system will open to the general public.

Each group will have a full week to purchase their parking permits. In 2019, there were still plenty of permits available in the system when it opened to the general public. Everyone that participated in the lottery was able to get a permit for parking. We cannot guarantee a spot at any particular location and some locations are a lot more popular than others, however, all locations are within easy walking distance of the San Diego Convention Center.

If you have any questions, please send them to [email protected] or click here to read the Ace Parking FAQ.

Comic-Con does not receive any revenue from the sale of these parking stalls, nor has any input on how the parking stalls are allocated or what rates are charged. This service is provided entirely by the parking companies themselves.

ACE Parking will be running the same lottery process we did in years past and the lottery registration period is now open. If you are not familiar with the lottery process, more information is provided below.

Entries for the lottery will be accepted until October 28th. We will hold the lottery drawing on October 29th and divide the selected entries into groups.

On November 1st the system will be opened and restricted to the people in group 1 only. Each week thereafter the system will be opened to the next group until all groups have had a chance to purchase their permits. At the end of the group sales, the system will be opened to the general public.

In an effort to stop the sign-up spamming that we have experienced in the past, this year again, we are requiring that you enter a valid credit card as part of the sign-up process. YOUR CARD WILL NOT BE CHARGED, however, we will run a pre-authorization against it to ensure it is valid.

You can sign-up two times per valid credit card using the same or different email addresses.

Comic-Con Special Edition 2021 FAQ

Your assigned group number does not guarantee specific locations. The probability of getting parking at your ideal location is dependent on a variety of factors, including:

The amount of inventory given to us to sell to the public by the venue. This may change year to year.

The number of vendors who purchase parking. This may change year to year.

The number of people who participate in the lottery and allocated to each group. This changes from year to year.

The time at which you log in to the system compared to others and secure parking.

Q: What locations will be included in the sale this year?

A: The locations participating in this year’s sale will be listed below after they are finalized.

Q: What is the link to the site selling the permits?

A: https://space.aceparking.com/events We are releasing the link to the site that will be selling the permits ahead of time so you will be able to get familiar with the site and set up an account in the system if you so choose. The permits will be sold by our reservation website at space.aceparking.com. The link to the page that will be selling the permits in the system is https://space.aceparking.com/events/. Credit cards are not stored on the site and the site is fully PCI compliant.

Q: What are the operating hours for the lots?

A: Most lots will open for drive-up business at the times below, however, there may be cases when the lots open for permit holders only and do not open for drive-up sales until later in the morning. Each lot is different and works to maintain a balance between the reserved spaces and extra inventory.

Convention Center, Hilton Bayfront garage, Padres Parkade, Diamond View Towers: 5 am – 2 am

Tailgate Park, Triangle, MTS: 5 am – 2 am

Q: What is the decal number field in the user account setup?

A: The decal number field is for Associates of ACE Parking Only and it should be left blank.

Q: Do the lots offer oversized vehicle parking?

A: No, vehicles over 18 feet will be turned away and not allowed to park even with a valid permit. Sorry.

Q: Does my permit include in-and-out privileges for the day?

A: No, in-and-out privileges are not allowed. If you leave the lot your space will become available for another drive-up customer to park in. Sorry.

Q: Does the online system require me to set up an account to purchase my permits?

A: Yes. You will need to set up an account during the checkout process. Your account will enable system features such as the ability to print your permit in the future, and tie all purchased permits to a single barcode that you can carry on your smart device for use at scanner-equipped lots. Your account will be available for future purchases for parking at next year’s Comic-Con and other events with the same barcode assigned to you which will be replenished with future permit purchases as they are made.

Q: Will the system allow me to purchase multiple permits per day?

A: No. Each account is restricted to one permit per day for Comic-Con. If you need to purchase more than one permit, you will need to set up multiple accounts
.
Q: Is there a way to purchase Comic-Con permits other than online?

A: The only way you can purchase advance parking permits for Comic-Con from ACE Parking is through the online system. However, the majority of the lots included in the online sale and others that are not included will be available for drive-up parking on the day of the event. Drive-up availability will be first come, first served for the remaining spaces not reserved online. The lots are expected to fill up fast. If you are planning to find parking on the day of the event, you should get there early.

Q: Can cars be parked overnight? Or just during the hours of the event?

A: Overnight parking is not permitted. The lots close at 2 am and reopen at 6 am (Convention Center opens at 5 am). They close so they can be prepared for the next day. Most lots are pre-sold to full capacity each day, so any cars on the lot after 2 am, will be towed at the owner’s expense.

Q: What if I drive a different car on the day of the event?

A: This year there is no need to enter details about your vehicle when you purchase your permit. The program doesn’t even prompt for them. We only request that you place a copy of your printed permit on your dashboard so it can be scanned by our lot enforcement personnel.

Q: Can I make a copy of my permit and give it to my friend?

A: No. The permits are lot-specific and can only be redeemed once. If a copy is found, the vehicle will be ticketed. If you’ve copied your permit and given it to a friend, the second permit scanned will be in violation and that may end up being your car. The permits are barcoded and lot enforcement personnel will be making the rounds scanning/redeeming them.

Q: Handicap Parking?

A: ADA spaces are first come first served. The Convention Center and Hilton Bay Front are the best choices for ADA parking.

Q: Will the passes sold online include a fee?

A: Yes, a convenience fee will be added per permit per day at checkout.

Q: Why am I being charged a convenience fee?

A: Yes, we do our best to make pre-purchasing parking as easy as possible so that fans can reserve parking ahead of time online. The convenience fee covers resources spent on making this option available and includes web hosting, ticketing hardware, customer support, training, credit and debit card processing services, merchant fees, computer hardware and software, telephone lines, labor, and more.

Q: If I send in multiple entries from multiple email accounts that I own and win one of them, can I purchase my permit with any of the emails I registered with or only the one that won?

A: Only the one that won. Your winning email address must be registered in the account you are going to use to purchase the permits. The purchase process will require you to log into your account first and will validate your email address. If your email address matches one on the selected list, you will be given the option to purchase a permit at the lot your name was drawn for. If there is no match, the option to purchase a permit will not be available to you.

Q: Can I register for the drawing with an email address that I haven’t registered an account within the permit system?

A: Yes. Accounts in the permit system are separate from the registration emails. If one of the email accounts you entered from is selected to purchase a permit, you have the option to create an account for that email address or update your existing account with that email address to qualify for the purchase option.

Q: If my entry is selected for a lot, can I purchase a permit for multiple days or just a single day?

A: When you enter the system to purchase your permit, you will have the option to purchase permits for all five days during the show (preview night and four show days.)

Q: Can I register multiple times for the lottery?

A: Yes and no, the system will accept two entries per valid credit card.

It's not much of a deterrent for anyone that's even slightly inclined.  With VCCs someone can sign up as many times as they want if it only limits based on CC #.  Unless they take account the billing address too.

Any word on price?  I looked under events and Turkeycon isn't listed there yet.  During regular comic-con is it standard pricing?

That price with no in and out privileges is high.  I think I'll just take Uber/Lyft in instead.  How are Uber/Lyft during comic-con?  Are they hard to get and is the surge pricing high?

IIRC that's how much it is for Comic-Con (used to be $20  :-[ ); for Padres games I want to say it's at least $25, maybe $30 (but I'm pretty sure $25).
For me it's hard to get pre-paid parking, since I'm not 100% sure I'll go every day & won't know until I see a programming schedule.  I suspect downtown parking will be no where near as nutty as it is for regular Comic-Con, so I may just roll the dice and take my chances.  For the trolley, as a family of four, the I'd be looking at an extra $5 per day and WAY more convenient, so the price doesn't bother me too much.  If I was going by myself, or with just one person, I'd likely stick to the trolley system instead (or at least, maybe try to park downtown Fri or Sat, and trolley on Sun and the other day?)

Get ready to have enough data on your phone to live stream your heart out at Turkeycon.  Red Pocket has a deal where you get the first month of their 50GB of high speed data plan for $1 by using coupon "RPSWITCHBACK15".  The regular pricing will apply after the first month.  In addition they have a bonus data event right now that will double that to 100GB of data for that month.  Not bad for $1.  Remember to cancel the plan before it renews for the following month so you don't get charged the recurring monthly rate.  You have until 11/15 to activate the plan.  Just in time for Turkeycon.

We're suppose to find out today about our spots in the parking lotto.

depending on demand, this thread will be turned into a 'all things parking' for the next week or so ;)

I am hoping it won't be necessary tho- I hope we all get the spots we want!

I wonder if each group is smaller than for a regular con so there might be more groups or there are fewer parking spots available? - I find it hard to believe that they would run out of lottery spaces with a half-size comic con.

HBF is part of the ACE Parking system and is a part of the Comic-con parking lottery. If you didn't win a spot in the parking lottery, it is unlikely you will be able to park there as it will most likely be full.

If you are guest at the Hilton Bay Front, you should have no problem getting parking in the hotel's lot.  However, valet is not available at this Hilton.

I think its mostly residential parking for the condos so there is not a lot of spots and priced as such.

I also received acknowledgments of my lottery entries,  I saved copies of those emails - but never got anything on Friday (or since) whether I made it into a group. In past years when I had entries, I always received an email for any that I won and a rejection email on the entries that didn't win.

yeah, it's pretty clear someing happened on their end. there's no reason rejections wouldn't be sent. But also, they only sent groups 1-3, no 4-6 notices. I'm hoping we'll hear something on Monday

That is very interesting - unless they doubled or tripled the size of the groups - Group 4 sometimes gets on the tail end of HBF, but the next lots would be by Petco park so that would not be that far and there shouldn't be anything going on at PETCO park or downtown during Thanksgiving weekend I wouldn't think. I just can't see as much parking needed for Special Edition vs regular Comic-con unless not all the lots are going to be open that weekend due to staffing issues. They are also charging a lot more money!

I haven't received any notification other than the immediate confirmation that I had registered.  To be honest, I'm not 100% sure I'll be going all three days anyway, so I wouldn't necessarily know exactly what I'd want to buy immediately.  I guess trolley will be the option for my family  :-X

Ace Parking update:

https://aceparking.com/comic-con/

Quote

UPDATE: 1101/21

All group emails have been sent out. If you haven’t received an email from ACE about the group sale, then your account was not selected for one of the groups.

Due to the high volume of entries received and the limited number of spaces available, we regret that your email address was not among the group selected to purchase a parking permit for the event.

We are currently planning to open the system to the public on November 22nd to sell any remaining inventory that is available.

It's amazing they had that many entries with a much smaller con - unless they didn't open as many spaces as usual.

I have to think that's the case

https://twitter.com/AceParking/status/1455260510983573507

they're opening up the parking on the 22nd for unsold spaces

Plus if there was only 3 groups, folks will need to sign up early when it goes live since there are likely a **lot** of people in the group.  <---- just a guess on my part!!

I don't typically do the Black Friday shopping crazy, so I'm not sure what may already be "taken" by businesses or whatnot that weekend.  There isn't anything schedule w/the Symphony at the shell that weekend, or at Petco Park.  Maybe it's just a really popular travel day and the hotels are already expecting high capacity (and parking) for the first Thanksgiving since 2019 many people will feel confident/vaccinated to travel.'

Seems weird, to say the least

Wow, I am super out of the loop.  I was thinking it was weird they were taking so long to send out the results of the parking lottery, but I guess now I know why I didn't hear anything, lol.

I usually stay further out like the Hampton Downtown and then try to get convention center parking, but this time it seems like it's easier to get a closer hotel room and walk--but the hotel parking seems pretty pricey down there.  Is there any place people recommend for overnight parking if you stay close in?

If the last big comic-con is any indication - Group 2 should be able to get HBF unless they increased the number of people in each group this time. Usually, the Convention Center fills up with Group 1.

Traditionally, the beginning of Group 2 is still able to get the convention center, and all of Group 2 gets HBF. But that's going on 'normal' data.

Getting Here

Parking and transportation can be a challenge if you are not prepared. We have compiled some information on local public transport and shuttle options to help you navigate your way to the San Diego Convention Center efficiently and smoothly.

MTS Trolley Service

San Diego is home to a great trolley service and best of all, it stops right at the Convention Center, in two different spots: Across from Hall A (Convention Center Station at Harbor Drive and First Ave.), and near Hall D (Gaslamp Station at Harbor Drive and Fifth Ave.).

Visit the MTS website where you can also use their online Trip Planner tool to plan your trip to Comic-Con at the San Diego Convention Center and purchase commemorative passes

Getting to Comic-Con Special Edition is just a quick Trolley ride from Mission Valley, Old Town, the Stadium, and park-and-ride facilities all over the map.

Coaster Commuter Train

The COASTER commuter train runs north-south through San Diego County, serving eight stations between Oceanside and downtown San Diego. More than 20 trains run on weekdays, with additional service on the weekends. It takes about an hour to travel the entire COASTER route. The COASTER stops at the Santa Fe Train Depot in downtown San Diego on Broadway, a short walk to the Convention Center, or you can hop a Trolley (see above).

Click here to visit the COASTER website for ticket and travel information.

Amtrak Pacific Surfliner

The Amtrak Pacific Surfliner offers train service between San Diego, Orange County, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo. Book your ticket ahead of time and consider upgrading to Business Class for a guaranteed seat. The train stops in downtown San Diego at the Santa Fe Depot on Broadway and Pacific Highway, a short walk or a few trolley stops to the Convention Center. Discounted trolley passes can be purchased onboard the Pacific Surfliner in the onboard market-style Café.

Click here for Amtrak Pacific Surfliner reservations.

Shuttle Service (ADA Only)

For attendees with mobility disabilities, the ADA Shuttle will operate between all official Comic-Con hotels and the Convention Center by reservation, on a first-come, first-served basis, and subject to the capacity of the vehicles. Badged members must have reserved their hotel room through the OnPeak reservation system on the Comic-Con Special Edition webpage in order to use this service.

Shuttles are designed to accommodate a wheelchair.  Passengers are allowed one companion.

Attendees requiring assistance must make reservations in advance by calling Seat Planners at (619) 572-9121 between 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM (except Thanksgiving Day) to arrange for an ADA Shuttle pick-up. When leaving a voicemail, please provide your name, phone number, hotel, a one-hour window for pick-up at the hotel, and a one-hour window for departure from the convention center. Voicemail reservations are not valid unless confirmed by the Comic-Con shuttle dispatcher.

The ADA Shuttle will operate during the following times:

Friday: 7:00 AM – 9:00 PM
Saturday: 7:00 AM – 9:00 PM
Sunday: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM

NOTE: The ending time is the last departure time from the San Diego Convention Center.
The last shuttle departing the hotels going to the Convention Center will be approximately 30 minutes prior to the end time listed.

The ADA Shuttle will drop off and pick up outside Hall H. You’ll find Deaf and Disabled Services just inside Lobby H.

Museum Shuttle

Complimentary shuttle transportation (ADA accessible) between the Convention Center and the Comic-Con Museum is available. For those who have not purchased museum tickets in advance, please visit the museum website at museum.comic-con.org/main to obtain your ticket. The shuttle does not need to be scheduled, and runs every 30 minutes, picking up/dropping off outside Hall H. The Museum Shuttle makes no other stops.

The Museum shuttle will operate during the following times:

Friday: 10:30 AM – 5:00 PM
Saturday: 9:30 AM – 5:00 PM
Sunday: 9:30 AM – 5:00 PM

Oh that's smart--I didn't even know you could buy their parking if you weren't staying there. I don't really need parking since I have a reservation at the Bayside, but I was vaguely thinking if I did get the parking I could conceivably change it to someplace cheaper further out.

Good heavens.  7.95?  Just for the "convenience" fee?

A day pass on the trolley is 5 dollars.

Trolley it is, then.

It seems like it's only a $2 more than normal net.  The normal price for one of those $10 lots is $15 with a $0.95 convenience fee.  They lowered the price but raised the convenience fee to compensate.  So in the end, the net price is about the same.  Why didn't they just leave the normal pricing?

I had no problems finding parking today.  I wasn't even planning to get out of the car.  My intention was to scout for parking for tomorrow.  But there was a lot of it.  I spent less time finding parking to go to the convention center than I did at Balboa Park to get to the museum.  It was a bit further away, but I saw a lot that was pretty much empty.  I ended up parking on the street at a meter.  25 cents for every 12 minutes.

The convention center parking garage never filled up today.
