As we have for the past few years, we will once again be hosting badge-buying groups for SDCC 2018. If you were in a returning registration OR open registration buying group last year for SDCC 2017, the following groups will be formed again for 2018 badges:Transmute Jun GroupOmraged9/TardisMom GroupBatgirl/TeriQueen GroupNCDS GroupLouie_Rob_M GroupMlgagne GroupSoCalNerdGal GroupJristen GroupWolfgirl1272 GroupBenEatsRice GroupTSnyder GroupYou should receive a contact from these groups. If you do not, please contact the group leader. (SoCanNerdGal Group members, she should be contacting you later today.)If you were a member of the Freight Group or BT Handles Group in 2017, those groups have decided to split off from FoCC and run on their own. Please contact your group leader for details. The SDCC buying groups on FoCC have been very successful. When we first started, there were only about 100 people interested in participating, but this has grown by leaps and bounds. Now, just a few short years later, we have about 1,000 people involved in FoCC SDCC buying groups. Unfortunately, Google sheets have a limit, as do our dedicated forum members who work with and help organize our technology. At this time, it looks like we are just about at that limit. Without assistance, we will not be able to expand SDCC buying groups further.Right now, we can take a few more members into the current buying groups. We are not able to accommodate new buying groups, and the current buying group leaders are taking on as much as they can. In order to create new SDCC buying groups in the future, we're going to need help. If we get this help soon, we might be able to open up new buying groups for open registration next year. But there are no guarantees. So with that said, we are asking for help. If anyone is good with Google/Excel sheets and is willing to step up and assist, that would be awesome! This an opportunity to learn with our team. Seriously, the ladies who run the tech side of the buying groups are great people and know their stuff, they just need help. We are also looking for someone who is interested in helping with developing an app to address the current buying group limitations. We would appreciate any volunteers who have skills or a strong interest in learning or helping with coding, design or project management. We are pulling a team together and need other skill sets to round out the project. If this site has been helpful to you and you have wanted to give back, now is the time. Anyone who is able to assist, please contact Alyssa and she can discuss our needs with you. With all of this, if you are interested in joining a buying group, please fill out the following Google form. You are not allowed to view links. Register or LoginFilling out the form does NOT guarantee you a spot in a buying group, but we will be allocating the spots we have to those who have filled it out. We have limited spots for people to join the existing buying groups, and the form may be shut down with no/minimal warning if we are approaching full capacity.Joining a buying group requires commitment to the group. All members of all buying groups must be willing and able to do the following things:Be eligible for the 2018 returning registration badge sale.Share personal information with the group leader. This includes (but may not be limited to) your last name, phone number and email address.Purchase badges for strangers (other people in the group, whom you may not know). Note that you are not allowed to buy badges for anyone who is not in your buying group. As such, make sure your friends/family are all in the same buying group.Stay online/in the waiting room during the sale even if a badge has already been purchased for you, to help out others in the group by buying for them.Join in a group chat (to be determined by the group leader) to stay in touch with your group on registration day.If someone else buys a badge for you, payment should be made immediately (usually Paypal) to the buyer. Ideally this should be done within 24 hours of the badge sale.If you buy badges for someone else, you should mail a screenshot or copy of the confirmation email to them immediately, so that they can confirm that they have a badge. At this time, it is appropriate to offer your payment information (usually Paypal) so that they can refund you.In addition to these rules, individual group leaders may have other restrictions as to how their group is run. These rules are in place to ensure a smooth buying experience that is fair to everyone. Any group member who breaks these rules can and will be prevented from participating in further buying groups on this site.Good luck to everyone during the upcoming returning registration!
How do we go about volunteering to assist?
I didn't hear from Melanie (Mlgagne Group) so on Thursday I sent her an email, but I still haven't heard back. Is she not heading the group anymore? Is there someone else I should be contacting?
Ahh good to know. No worries about getting back to me late. I just thought maybe there was something I missed with our group (and I obsessively worry about every little thing when it comes to Comic Con).
There are still places available in the buying groups. I believe everyone who has already signed up has been contacted by a buying group leader to join.
