ECCC is making its return August 21-23, 2020 at the WSCC! We're so excited to pack our show into three unforgettable days this summer.

We know a lot of fans were hoping to transfer over badges to the new dates, so starting today through March 27, you'll have the option to transfer your badges to ECCC August 2020 or receive a full ticket refund. You can read all the details here:

Interesting only 3 days.  I actually prefer that.  Big cons I want 4 days but cons like these 3 is enough!

So ECCC is that weekend and the following weekend is Keystone and Celebration — going to be a busy time for Reedpop.

1 week before Celebration. Yeah, won’t even bother thinking on going now.

Regardless, I hope both cons do happen.

Agreed

I am looking forward to these new dates, and summers in Seattle are awesome, I just hope everything is stable by then. I also prefer a 3 day ECCC in its current state. 4 days made it drag on a little too much, in my opinion.

The only thing on the convention calendar during that time was "Washington State Dental Association Academy" on 8/22 with no listed attendance. From looking at their website, it looks like a continuing education class for dentists and there are many of those per year. So probably wasn't hard to move that or hold it somewhere else.

For the first time, I'm also kind of glad that ReedPop took over. I don't think a small, independent organization would have been able to hack out the cancellation and rescheduling of this kind of event so quickly.

The new hotel reservations page has quietly launched. Prices, for the most part, are sky-high. ($174 Hilton/everything else $229-259)

The prices do seem a bit steep.

Are they planning to gauge us to recover costs from the pandemic?

The official rationale is probably something like summer is a bigger tourist season than spring, so non-block prices are higher as well. However...tourism is probably not going to be back to normal at all this year, so I don’t think these higher prices will be justified. Just like with the original spring dates, these prices are not necessarily better than off-block prices for the same time period and I expect to be able to find much better deals booking directly as we get closer to the con.

Of course, there’s no guarantee that it won’t get canceled again. :-/ That said I think the rescheduled ECCC has as good of odds as any convention to actually pull through this year. But the odds are still not that high, as nobody may be ready to open back up big events this year. But what it does have going for it: Washington dealt with the coronavirus early and is already starting to see cases level off, and August is right in the middle of summer so it’s well before the expected second wave of coronavirus during the fall. Unlike other cities, the convention center is not likely to be used as a hospital or homeless shelter. The layout is just too difficult for that.
